I was really craving a mangonada after not having it for a couple of years. I came across this place while on a food crawl in Jackson Heights. The mangonada was huge and you can tell how much work the employees put into it to stack the fruit slices so neatly. Even though we are splitting this between two people, it was still a lot of fruits and shave ice to work through. I personally love the different slices of apple, mango, melon, and pineapple that went into it. It was a bit hard to eat though because each time you take out a slice of fruit, you have to watch out to prevent the other fruit slices from falling out of the cup. It's cute having the wafers and candies in there but I personally didn't like them since it's too much sweets for me. Regardless, this definitely satisfied my mangonada craving and I love the fruit slices, the tajin, and the shave ice. read more

Great spot for when you're craving something cold and fresh! I ordered the fresas con crema, the sweetness of the cream mixed with the slightly tart (but still fresh!) strawberries was perfect for the summer heat, and a good sized portion. Staff members were also very friendly and welcoming! I tried some of the most basic flavors didn't like any of them; lemon a little bitter, pineapple mango and pitaya very plain and mango with chili didn't really enjoy it either, as a person who's been in the food and hospitality for over 20 years I can say sometimes less is more but your product has to have quality, your helados needs more fruit and the sugar/water ratio is wrong, it needs more sugar too so you don't end up with all the ice crystals in it, I get that everything is expensive but I wouldn't mind paying more for a better product and less of it( don't have to be filled all the way like that) that way you make the customer craving for it more as opposed to getting quantity instead of quality. read more

*BEST MANGONADAS IN NY* Don't listen to the critics. As a Mexican American, I can say that this place is the most authentic Mangonada joint in New York. Tastes like Michoacan. Small cup costs $8 which is more than enough ice cream for your average person. They don't skimp on quantity too. You'll get an overflowing amount of ice cream, tons if flavors and toppings. I can always count on yelp to find yummy stuff. Mexican ice?!! What?!!!!! It's like an Italian ice just not as sweet and more real fruit flavor. Does that make sense? If you have a sweet tooth but also like a little spice, try the Mango Chile ice, or my favorite, Lemon Chile. Don't knock it till your try it. I've tried almost ever flavor. A small cup is $2 and they really pack it up. Piña colada is also my fav. They seem to be known for their Chamoyadas. I believe it's made with shaved ice or mango sorbet with chili powder and fruit. Love their chamoyadas and mangoneadas here! Their mangoneadas are filled with fruits + topped with wafers and candy + tajin. You can easily share this with another person because it's just that loaded. My favorite is the chamoyada with tamarind though. Great amount of spice to complement the the tanginess of the fruit. There's bits of tajin covered candy in it too. The prices are a little hefty here for a regular cup size. The mangoneadas were $15 and the chamoyadas were $12. But they're loaded with fruits which justifies the price in some way. It's a great treat in the warm weather, so it's well worth trying it out. They sell a lot of Mexican candies here too! read more

So I had a mangonada for the first time ever and it was so good. A friend of mine had bought one this week and I was intrigued to taste one. It came with mango sherbet (i think) mixed cut pieces or oranges, mango, melon, apple, grapes, and tamarind candy with tajin and some other red toppings on it. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because my wafer cookie was very stale. But other than that, it was very good and the girl who did it was very pleasant. The next 2 times I was charged different prices for the same thing, and the fact that there are no price listings anywhere in store, means you can be charged anything at anytime for any reason - that should not be. I was really craving shaved ice during the blizzard so I looked up relevant places on Yelp and came across Nieves Tia Mimi. Luckily it was only 11 minutes away so I decided to walk my dog as well, hitting two birds with one stone. It was actually a much smaller place than I expected. It was half grocery store where they sell miscellaneous stuff and snacks and the other half had the ices. They are known for their chamoyada (mango and tamarind) which is what I got. Small is $8 and large is $12. Overall it was a delightful experience with great customer service and delicious flavor. Definitely out of the norm of a regular Italian ice but it was just as good if not better! I'll be coming back for sure. read more

I've been to this location a few times already and yesterday I walked in at exactly 9:25pm, closing time is 10pm on Saturdays to my understanding and I called the location before arriving to make sure what time they would close, So I don't understand why I received attitude from the employee at the back of the counter preparing the icees, I saw another employee sweeping but she did not tell me it was closing time. But it was very rude the way the employee rolled her eyes as soon as I walked up to her to place an order, no greeting no nothing, aside from that another employee blocked the bathroom after my husband came out of the bathroom, again it was NOT closing time and a family member that also purchased wanted to use the restroom and was not allowed. I was in the area and hopped on the 7 to visit this place that has been getting some buzz. When I arrived there were already a few people on the line and the two and half make shift tables in the back were all filled up with customers enjoying their Mexican ices. The inside is not finished but that never stopped me from trying to enjoy a good plate or dessert ( we will visit this later on in my review ). I looked at some of the offerings and decided to go with a chamoyada since it seemed like the classic thing to try out as my first time to this establishment. The polite employee behind the counter greeted me and asked me what I wanted. There were several buckets of ices in a see through freezer. I asked for the chamoyada and the employee asked me what flavors. I asked want the common combo was and he informed me it was mango and tamarind. That was fine with me. The cup sizes range from small to large. I decided to go with a medium so I could get a good amount to enjoy for my first try. The employee scooped the ice flavors into the cup and then handed it over an older female employee next to him. This person is the one who decorates the ice with the spices and tamarind straw to make it looks like the photo. I was very excited and initially very satisfied with the service. I had mentioned before the tables were used up so I walked to the back to the left and there was a long waist height freezer that I was going to use and a temporary countertop. I put my ice down and got some photos with my phone. Then I started to eat. The spicy sensation mixed with the cold is something one has to get used to. Overall it was an interesting dessert and I wanted to try out some of their other flavor combinations at a later date. I was standing from the moment I walked in but I know that places like this are very popular and tend to fill up. I was very patient and a family of four had just finished up their iced and left. At the same time I see the older woman who decorates ices looking at me and mouthing something and waiving her finger at me from across the room. So the table opened up and I motioned to her that I was going to sit down. I was facing the front door and it was approximately an hour to 45 minutes to closing. This was plenty of time for me to try and conquer this new dessert I had read so much about. The older lady smiled and said goodbye and thank you in Spanish to the OTHER customers (I have a decent comprehension of the language). After several minutes of me sitting down this lady comes up to me waiving her fingers again and she says to me in a very rude and angry tone (with customers sitting nearby who can hear her loud voice) "Don't come into my business and take pictures." It took me a millisecond to try and process to see if she was joking or not but she repeated her sentence again. I laughed and then said that I was simply taking photos of my chamoyada. And I was also looking up other photos and reviews. Other customers were on their phone as well. She points her finger and me again and says "you were taking pictures" and then walks away to help more customers and to clean up. Now this soured my mood. And other customers were looking at us. She does not look at me or speak to me for the remainder of my stay. By her tone and how she said "my business" I thought she was a manager and no manager or employee should ever be so rude to a customer. I am very cool headed but this annoyed me as much as it amused me. I continued to sit and try and enjoy my chamoyada. She was definitely complaining to her other coworkers about me and they kept on walking around me pretending to get items from the storage room so they could walk behind me. There have been rare instances where I have been treated so poorly and in such a belligerent manner whilst I was dining. During the last half hour or so a customer walked in as they were cleaning up and taking away the floor mats as well as the baked goods they were selling outside. This person ordered an awesome looking shaved ice combo and sat down near myself. This person immediately takes out his phone and starts taking photos but the older lady said nothing to him. I gave him a warning about taking pics jokingly and he looked confused. It was approximately 15 minutes to closing and I was done with my ice. I had eaten half of the tamarind straw. The older female employee pretended not to se I gave a tip to the employee whom helped me originally and asked if this lady was manager. He avoided the question and asked me what happened (even though he had to have known). I reiterated what happened and asked if she was familiar with things like Instagram because that is why I was taking the photo of my dessert. He apologized and said that they were only workers and he would talk to the owner about this incident. I highly doubt that. This female employee had ample chances to apologize for her incorrect accusation of me taking photos of her business. read more

Amazing and authentic place for Mexican chucherias , unfortunately the customer service is underwhelming, if not horrible. I reached out to them a few times about this and wrote a comment on their page on IG unfortunately they deleted the comment. Once again please better your customer service your product is great but I get discouraged purchasing there bc of how bad the service is . Other than that their Elados con chile are great, the fruta picada is good too but be careful with the pepinos bc sometimes they don't keep them in a cool place and once prepare they are soggy and warm. read more

I attended BK9 for a friends birthday party. We all had an awesome time. The owners gave us the royal treatment. The food was delicious and the drinks were very very very good.
