I think this might be my first review of 2025. So much stuff on our plates right now. Had to find a place to jus relax and enjoy the scenery. Be aware that it is a wee bit of a drive from KCK. The last 4 miles or so is on white gravel roads. I wasn't so happy about that. At least they were mostly flat and lil bit potholes. Plan to wash your car afterwards. Hehehe. Wifey and I enjoyed our time here. Talked to a very personable young lady serving us. Told us about the different types of wines & how they tasted. She also had a small cup of mini dark chocolate chips (DCC) and oyster crackers (OC). The DCC with the red wines changed the flavors very nicely. The OC was for the white wines. I'm always tryin weird stuff with tastings. So of course I have a DCC with one of the semi sweet white wines and BAMB!!! Ohh baby!!! It was weird, but the flavors were pretty good! Yeah yeah of course I can't remember which white it was. I guess we gotta go back to try and figure it out? Hehehe. Ok ok, so after the tasting, wifey got a glass of the Sangria and I got a glass of the Wild Fire. We also got the bread with the olive oil Parmesan dip. It does have red peppers inside the dip, but it was a subtle kick. We go the Nighthawk Nachos later since I wanted another glass of Wild Fire. Well, I'd better get going. This was our 2nd stop on our wine afternoon. Plenty of parking ... lots of outdoor seating and great landscaping. They have food truck on site ( we recommend trying a few charcuterie options)! I wouldn't normally think of Kansas as a hot spot for local wine, but this little spot was a pleasant surprise. My wife tried a flight of white wine. $7 if you make a reservation, $10 without. Honestly, the whites weren't anything special. Where Nighthawk shines is with their red wines. The Chambourcin is a table blend that tastes like a blend of Pinot noir and Malbec. (At least to me). If you're looking for something lighter, they make a very good sangria. The grounds are peaceful, the service is great. Just a really nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon. read more

Beautiful setting for a winery. Nice owner and staff. Wine was just ok. I did a dry flight and 3 of 4 seemed super vinegary. After the flights, we tried the sangria which was refreshing on a hot day. They currently take reservations in three hour increments. Ours was 3-6 and tables were very well distanced. read more

A beautiful fall day at a beautiful location. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable- wines were decent for KS wines. My favorite is the Reserve Red, but they have many from which you can choose. On site food truck had great options, and amazing tastes from all flavors. Tasting and bathroom inside, but can enjoy purchase outside (with the cat too). Will definitely return. Came here on an overcast, slightly rainy Sunday for a girls day. The property is beautiful and the gentleman that did our tasting was so nice and friendly and really over the top great service. The wine isn't really my thing, I'm just not a fan of MO/KS wine but I did find one or two that wasn't tooooo sweet. We bought a bottle and sat outside with a little cheese and crackers picnic I had brought. Just a really lovely afternoon. Their website says reservations required and I did make reservations for about $10 per person which included our tasting. read more

We stumbled upon this winery completely by accident, and dont regret it! Amazing staff, and beautiful atmosphere. Due to covid, tastings were not happening, but the bottles of wine we did try, were delicious. When we arrived, it want very busy, but it picked up by the time we left. Incredible afternoon day trip, 45 minutes from downtown Kansas City. 5$ wine tasting. Live music on weekends, group games on the front lawn. After a stunning drive through rich green farmland, the grape vines start to appear. Up the drive way to the main building housing the tasting room, store, patio, bathrooms and outdoor seating area. Once inside we were greeted by the lovely and personable owner Kathy. Picked up a bottle for $16, found a table outside and unpacked our picnic. what ever the weather is in the city it feels 10 degrees cooler here. Free WiFi and I feel silly admitting I used it. Without their open WiFi my phone would of had no signal. Flowers blooming, grapes just appearing, personable mid west hospitality, loved every moment. read more

My experience stumbling upon this beautiful winery was as if you were reading a book and it came to life before your very eyes sitting on the patio watching the prairie grass blow in the wind as a beautiful black stallion pulling a carriage drives by in front of us drinking our wine munching on our charcuterie tray it literally felt like a little piece of heaven right outside of Kansas City and then as we were wrapping things up a surprise food and wine pairing presented itself to us with the invitation from the owners that just sealed the deal that this was one of my new favorite places I one hundred percent will be back to enjoy the peaceful tranquility and relaxation of this beautiful winery is more than I expected by far for Sunday afternoon And if you do not take the time on a Saturday or Sunday to make a trek out here we were doing yourself a dis justice Thank you all for my lovely memory Suzanne epstein read more

This is probably my favorite winery near the metro area. I've been here multiple times, and usually with large groups (close to 30 people). I know how overwhelming it can be trying to accommodate large groups and keep things organized, but the owner, Julie, is always cool, calm, and collected, and such an awesome host. The wine is good, you're allowed to bring your own food (many other wineries in the area do not allow that), and the whole space is fantastic. They have indoor and outdoor seating, and when it's cold there's a fire pit. I would recommend this place for parties, or if you just want a little getaway for the day. read more

They wanted me to pay $10.00 for a soft drink! #NoSale *Apparently, $10.00 is some sort of new "cover charge" thing due to covid. Yeah, we are Never going back. I've been to all the wineries around Kansas City and this one is for sure my favorite. It's hard to describe exactly why that is, it's just an awesome peaceful feeling that you get when you're there. I'm not going to lie-- driving on a gravel road to get there is kind of a bummer. But when you turn onto the property and see the winery waiting at the end of the lane, it's just somehow really magical. The first time I came here was on a random fall Friday with my husband and it was like we owned the place. We did the awesome $5 wine tasting and got a personal vineyard tour from the owners. They were so cool. They made us feel totally welcome. I would totally come back on a Friday again since no one else seems to be able to take off work like I can. Ha! The next time I returned was about 6 months later with some girlfriends. We absolutely had so much fun drinking and playing a giant Jenga game. I've been to weddings and stuff where they had lawn games, but I'd never actually played them before. The whole atmosphere was just like a bunch of friends getting together and having a party where you're unafraid to be yourself. We weren't drunk, I promise! (maybe?) People we didn't even know were helping us with the lawn frisbee golf thing and I totally forgot to talk about the food. Oh. My. God... it was SO GOOD. They had a chef cooking sliders and I think he had a salad on the menu too. We were originally going to go to a German place after the winery, but this was way better. It was totally unexpected to have such good food in what feels like the middle of nowhere. We've been to wineries all around St. Louis, Hermann, Leavenworth area and KC and Nighthawk is definitely our favorite. It feels like you're in a different world when you're out there, even though it's an easy drive. I don't remember which kind of wine we liked, but I do remember saying to everyone how crazy it was that wine made in Kansas was actually good. Really good. I am on their mailing list and I hear about fun things they're doing all the time. Hope I can get down there again soon. This place is FANTASTiC! read more

I went to Nighthawk Winery not knowing what to expect. I had heard from a friend that it was a great atmosphere and experience so I decided to give it a shot since they were having a Sunset Saturday event. Immediately when we pulled into the drive I loved the layout of the space. It was very welcoming and warm. There are trees all around the property, surrounded by the vineyard. The tables were arranged in a fashion so that people sitting from any of the tables could interact with one another, which they did. I watched many patrons who had never met before start making new friendships here. The atmosphere was light and cheery, with music playing in the background. I arrived into the tasting room and was immediately greeted by a friendly staff member. This was very relieving as I had never been to a wine tasting before. They let me know what to expect, and poured me something they recommended based on my tastes. The wine itself was amazing and I couldn't walk away without buying a bottle. I bought "Moon Dream" to take home with me and it was absolutely delicious! They have items inside the tasting room as well that are available for purchase. I bought some cheese and crackers to eat with the bottle I purchased. I was also given a tour around the winery and space, got to see the grapes close up and learned a lot more about the owners of the property and the space itself. It's beautiful with a stream running through and a small lake in the back and has that "home-y/country" feel that I love. Overall, this was a wonderful experience for me. I would recommend coming here to any of my friends. I really liked how personal they made my stay. I will definitely be going back to make more memories with the friendly staff and beautiful space of Nighthawk Winery - not to mention the great wine! read more

I went to Nighthawk Vineyards for the first time this past week. We got there just after 11am and we were the only ones there. We walked around to try to take some photos of the grapes still on the vine. They didn't mind us browsing through the vineyards. Then we made our way into the tasting room. We tasted 6 different wines. The gal who severed us was fairly informative, but not overly talkative. We each bought a glass of wine since we it was early in the day and we had other vineyards to visit too. The patio setting was pretty nice. It could be tidied up a bit, but the tree and flowers are beautiful. It was a perfect setting to enjoy our wine. They even turned on some music for us, again still the only ones there. There are several tables, spots in the sun or shade. This would be a great spot for a picnic. They do sell some snacks, but if you want a meal then pack your bag. I heard they also have some fun events like the harvest open to the public, live music and an evening nighthawk (local bird) migration watch. The best way to find out what's happening is to get on their email list. You can take the Wine Trail trolley here which is a great option to avoid driving and visit multiple vineyards. Not sure on the cost and times it runs. I think we'll certainly be back read more

Big fan of this super adorable winery. Love their blush wine. Did their tasting. Have been here before. The hard cider they bottled this year is very good. Great place to relax on the patio or lawn and drink some wine, listen to live music, and have some noshes. They have Wheatfields bread, chocolate, and I think other items for purchase. Had lots people coming on the Trolley. Only winery I really like on the Somerset wine trail. Cutest thing I saw was some people playing cornhole on the lawn, and the owner came out with some cups of wine for players, saying "we can't have people hanging out here without any wine". Sums up the vibe of this place. read more

We went here for the first time this past Saturday and were pleased with the patio and the wines. We were on the Miami County Trolley and this was our first stop. They had just finished renovations to start having a live band come out. We got a bottle of the Wild Fire Blush wine and loved it. The owner was really nice and came out to socialize with the guests. The gave us a cold bottle, ice bucket and 2 glasses. They were very accommodating. We will definitely go back. read more

This was our first time visiting Nighthawk Vineyards. It was the dead of winter but we imagined this would be a really beautiful winery to sit outside once the weather warms up. When we arrived at the winery we encountered the Miami Trolley and a large group of people that had just arrived. We heard from the group that Trolley tour will take you through the Somerset wine trail, which included four different wineries. Our experience was very laid back, and the owners were extremely friendly and helpful. We had a great explanation and samples of all the available wines. We tasted several nice varieties of wines and wish we could have spent more time there. We were pleasantly suprised, and my wife and I will be back once this Spring! read more

Unfortunately my poor review has to do entirely with the staff performance. My group of 4 had a rough experience with an employee that provided poor service with an even poorer attitude. After one of my friends left a $2 tip on the counter, this employee condescendingly commented on how "meager" his tip was. In order to diffuse the situation I talked him out of the room. When I returned to the taproom to order another drink, the server said "you can have this back", and tried to hand me the $2 back. I declined and ordered another drink, while attempting to understand where her attitude was coming from. She did not want to talk it over; she wanted to be right. Avoided me the rest of the time In the back room. Unfortunately their great wine was overshadowed by such poor service. For a small business, this staffing choice has huge impacts. read more

This place is definitely a treat! I loved their wines, especially the Wildfire Blush (it was semi-sweet). I took the Miami County trolley here, and the scenery was amazing. I haven't been here since they've renovated it and added onto it, but the patio was really nice. I loved the open forest area, it just adds to the experience. They offer quite a few different wines and you can do a tasting. They seem very laid back and let you explore their vineyards. read more

I concur with all the favorable reviews about NightHawk Winery. A great get-away destination out in the farm country of Paola Kansas (about an hour drive from my Kansas City mid-town home). You can do a trolley tour of all the wineries which is a good way to get introduced to these tucked-away finds. However, when I've got just a few hours I'll head here since it's such a relaxing and charming atmosphere. It's easy to start a nice conversation with other visitors while sipping some great wine, catching a breeze under the grove of trees and even play lawn games (something for the kids or adults)...while listening to music. I'll be heading there again when the weather warms up - can't wait. read more

I love this winery! It's so homey and relaxing! All of the staff is so courteous, especially if they're busy, they will make sure you're happy waiting (I've been handing a free glass of wine when there are long waits). Don and Kathy are wonderful and attentive and will likely remember you if you come back! Jenny is also great and always fun to have for a tasting, but honestly all of their staff is great! Often live music on the weekends, occasionally some sort of food option. It's great to do a tasting ($6/6 tastings -build your own tasting). I love getting g a glass or bottle and just sitting on the patio with some cheese and crackers (you can bring your own) or walking through the vines. My fiancé and I actually got engaged here because this wine area (the Somerset wine trail) has become a fun and special place to us. Definitely go check this place out! My favorite wine is probably the Dry Seyval Blanc but they have a lot of interesting and delicious wines! read more
