The food is always amazing, and the service is consistent. I ordered takeaway today, and ordered a cucumber salad. The menu online and in the Uber Eats ordering app does not have any description to it, it just says "cucumber salad". When I got home, over 30 minutes away, I discovered that this salad has what I assume is kimchi mixed in it? That is not what I was expecting at all, but just cucumbers, sesame seeds, and a sauce of soy sauce and rice wine vinegar. First time here and it was yummy! The crab rangoons were super unique-- crunchy with lots of filling. I had the crunch 2-in-1 roll which was filling, tasty, and prepared well. Service was excellent-- super attentive and checked in the perfect amount. There is plenty of space in the restaurant with lots of rooms and busy with conversation. My friends and I went for a casual brunch on New Year's. Surprisingly, we were able to find a spot for our group of 12. Since they didn't have a big table, we split into two tables of six. We ordered Schezwan Kung Pao Chicken, Chicken Fried Rice, Veg Fried Rice, Egg Rolls, Miso Soup, Rolls, Pork Gyoza, Edamame, Spicy Lady Roll, and Singapore Noodles. I liked all the dishes, and the portion sizes were good. The only disappointment was the Singapore Noodles, which had too much turmeric. I also tried the Brown Sugar Boba, which was really good. We swung by Niji for a casual lunch as a big group. We did not have a prior reservation but they were relatively empty, so they could accommodate us easily. We were very happy to see that they were open on the 1st of Jan. They did not have a big table for us but were able to split us into two big groups. We ordered a bunch of things ranging from boba tea, miso soup, spring rolls, pork ramen, lo mein noodles, bok choy, etc. Overall, I wasn't very impressed with the food as I have had better but some of my friends really liked their sushi and ramen. Twelve of us visited the restaurant for lunch on New Year's Day. Since the lunch specials weren't available due to the holiday, we ordered a variety of individual dishes and paired them with Sapporo and Asahi. For the table, we ordered edamame, gyoza, and vegetable spring rolls - all of which were excellent. The highlights at our table were the Tonkatsu Ramen, which was outstanding, and the Mongolian beef, which came in a close second. The noodles were decent but nothing extraordinary. On the other hand, the Chicken Katsu Curry and Kung Pao Chicken were average and could probably be skipped next time. The waitress that tended to us was very sweet and checked up on us often. She made sure we had refills on drinks quick. The food came out very quickly as well and everything tasted amazing. Our group of three ate at Niji last Thursday. It was the first time we'd been there. The hostess was friendly and seated us immediately. It is a large space with multiple areas. We were seated in a booth near the Teppanyaki tables. I couldn't see the Teppanyaki tables from where I was seated but judging from the clamor behind me, they chefs must have been doing a good job. Our waitress was prompt and friendly. She took our orders, brought our food, checked in on us, and took care of the bills. For food, I had the cumin beef. It was tasty and one of my stand-byes. My companions both had sushi rolls and nigiri. They both said the sushi rolls were spot-on. We were all pleased with the experience and would not hesitate to return. read more

I found this restaurant when I went to Takumi and there was a sign on the door that they had moved to a different location. Not only had they moved to a different location, but the restaurant name was also different. This new location is absolutely beautiful inside and it is much larger than their original location. The service was ok, the food was gross. It was the worst take on Midwestern sushi I've had in the Midwest. Since it's a Chinese restaurant at its core I asked for the best Chinese dish on the menu and got the Sichuan Chicken, which ended up being a worse version of a bad strip mall version. This is a new-ish restaurant, although it's the same owners as a place just down the street called Takumi. I've only had the sushi, but it seems to be the same as what they had at Takumi. Not certain about the rest of the menu, but according to a local article: At Niji, whose name in part comes from the Japanese word "ni" meaning two, owner Amanda Chen combines elements of her other two Madison-area restaurants, the 17-year-old sushi restaurant Takumi and Fugu, a Sichuan spot on West Gilman. Niji is not a move or rebrand -- Takumi has closed for a remodel, but is set to reopen in February. read more
