They fit great. They fit even better with insoles; Brian explained the benefits of swapping out insoles while traveling. Then I saw a cute pair of Dansko closed toe sandals. Tried those and they were perfect. And then I bought a Baggallini cross-body purse. Got a big discount on the purse, a discount for buying the insoles, and a great price on both pairs of shoes. This store has a small but purposeful selection. I really enjoyed my first visit and will be back!

I'm glad I had the experience of visiting the store and Fourth Street. It was very nice to try the shoes on in person versus buying online which since moving to the suburbs I am often guilty of. The shopping experience and at Bows and Arrows in particular is still best and most satisfying way to buy clothing.

The name caught my attention, and when I read that it's owned by a physical therapist and staffed with students/residents in orthopedics and foot care, I knew this wasn't just a regular shoe store -- this was going to be different. From the moment we walked in, we were impressed. Parking was easy (even on a busy day), and we were greeted by a tall, slender young man with glasses who introduced himself as a kinesiologist (I'm so sorry I didn't catch his name!). He was professional, attentive, and incredibly knowledgeable. He had my brother remove his shoes and socks, observed his gait by having him walk up and down the hallway, and even demonstrated how my brother's current shoes were too flexible by twisting them. Then he brought out a Brooks shoe and showed us the difference in structure -- it barely twisted at all. He explained why that stability matters. They measured his feet the old-school way with a sizing device to ensure a precise fit. They also noticed that my brother's feet turn slightly inward when he walks, which likely contributed to his pain. What I really appreciated was how they used a skeletal foot model with bands to visually demonstrate what was happening. For visual learners, this was incredibly helpful and made everything make sense. When my brother tried on the recommended shoes, he immediately said, "Oh my God, these make such a huge difference." The neck chafing: however, the wetsuit I got scratched the right side of my neck, and it hurts. The irony is after the swim, I realized that a wetsuit isn't really needed: warm water at 64 degrees with great weather - but I won't know in advance. I hope they either fix it or retire it. Larry Blake's just closed and the old Cody's still makes that end of the street fairly lonely and even a bit creepy at night. And yet, Bancroft Clothing is still here, albeit as Store #15 in the Mccaulou's Department Store Chain. In past years, this store has been named as the "Best place to purchase Cal gear" per the Daily Californian Newspaper. And sure enough, when my sports-minded brother or my Dad comes to town, this is where they immediately go to buy a little Blue and Gold. They love the selection and the prices and I do too. The store itself is full and somewhat complex to navigate. While I'm here, I sometimes pick up a Clinque product for Mom or Gayle, and maybe look at the shoes upstairs. And for that, you might also want to stop in at the nearby Bill's Footwear on Telegraph, another South Side Survivor.
