Since moving to Pasadena almost 7 years ago, Nikki C's has been a staple for us. It's walkable to where we live and they have a great ambiance and happy hour. In the before times, we would go there on a weeknight, sit at the bar (1/2 price wine bottles on Wednesday!) and have some wine and appetizers. Their meatballs are great and so are their sliders. We've also had nice dinners there and have been to their brunch as well. Some of the best chilaquiles I have had, and $3 mimosas. The service is good, especially the bus boy (man) who wears a hat (I don't know his name but he's been there forever and is so sweet). The bar has a locals vibe and during the weekend days it attracts a lot of folks watching the races at Santa Anita since they show them there. Highly recommend! read more

This place was really nice. The ambiance of the restaurant well lovely. Totally date worthy. I went just in time for lunch. The parking seems small but there's more in the back of the restaurant. I ordered the chicken parmesan and my bf got the lasagna. Both meals were lunch portion however very filling. I also go the tropical tea which was very refreshing and not sweetened. Most of the parking is in back, be careful driving through the side alley to get to the parking because it's one way traffic. The restrooms are cruise ship tight. I had the salmon and it was cooked perfect. It wasn't dry and tasted great. The beers on tap were cold and glasses clean. read more

What's the best way to describe Nikki C's through my eyes? Lets see... It's like having a newly fried egg sandwiched between week-old white toasted bread. Yeah, that's it! If you can form a mental picture of that in your head - you'll know exactly what I mean. This is my third time here and I swear I see the same exact crowd every single time. Nikki C's is the quintessential "neighborhood" rustic Italian restaurant/bar that is a social hangout for Pasadena's Chapman Woods "well-aged". This section of Pasadena's demographics is well represented here, and I'm sure they like it that way and want to keep it that way. My first visit, I had the sliced New York strip. This was pan grilled, peppered, and topped with béarnaise, which was good enough to make me wanna come back. Had drinks the second time at the bar. The third visit resulted in me asking the waitress Patricia her opinions on three of my choices. Surprisingly, she suggested the cheapest of the dishes, which was the Veal Marsala. Any server whose suggestions are NOT based on return profit is A-OK in my book. The veal was sautéed in marsala wine, mushrooms, garlic, and green onions. It was a bit bland, but given the clientele - I'm sure it was spiced just right! ;) Their warm ciabatta bread and balsamic vinegar & oil dipping sauce is another big hit with the crowd. Their Martini menu is pretty awesome. A choice of 15 unique-tinis, and this is probably one of the main reasons why I find myself returning to this ultra-dark setting. Nikki C's is the NBA equivalent of the LA Clippers. Although they have great players and game strategy they don't stand out like the Lakers who have a huge built in fan base. Nikki C's off Rosemead Blvd is somewhat overshadowed by various big name restaurants, however I feel their "game" is good enough to stand out on their own. STADIUM LAYOUT: This restaurant seems small from outside but upon entering there is enough seating for a large restaurant. We sat at the bar and ordered our meal. if you're in the mood for a great meal while watching a sports game, definitely come here. The bar had at least four large screen TVs but beware of obnoxious "regulars". Apparently there are a lot of locals who sit at the bar and literally talk the ear of the staff. I didn't feel like the bartender didn't discriminate against us because we were not regulars, but could definitely sense which customers coming in vs. those who seldom come here. GAME PLAN: I ordered the Island Ribeye with shrimp, fries and a beer on tap. The bartender knew her steaks and made some great recommendations on how to get the most flavor out of our meal. To the dismay of my fellow foodies and Top Chef drop-outs everywhere I love my meat well-done. With her advice I did go medium-well which was right-on-the mark in terms of getting the best flavor from my entrée. PLAY-BY-PLAY ACTION: 1st Quarter: The food came out--smelled and looked delicious. The steak was juicy but I did feel the fries were a little bit on the light portion. I did ask for A1- sorry folks but I love A1 on my steaks. 2nd Quarter: Ate a good half of my steak, I really underestimated how large and juicy it was. The fries were decent, but kind of bummed they didn't serve as a larger portions. Asked for a refill on my tap beer. I am loving every bite of the steak but nothing is sticking out with my fries, they seem bland with no seasoning. 3rd Quarter: Taking it slower, eating my meal. I think I can definitely finish the whole dish. The shrimp were average size, a lot larger than what they sell at Sizzler but I felt there was still enough room for these "little guys" to grow. If your spending $30 a plate for Surf n' Turf, I would expect larger shrimp. 4th Quarter: Completely done, I took care of this meal. I won this game with one-hand-tied-behind-my-back. GAME RECAP: I am reluctantly giving 5 stars. I did feel the quality of the steak was solid which was the primary reason for going here. However I did feel corners were cut on the fries and the shrimp. I am not bummed the fries had a smaller portion and the shrimp were on the smaller side. The island steak was delicious which is why I promoted this to five stars instead of four. I could tell these were top-notch steaks. I was pleasantly surprised with the great service, I would recommend this place for a nice evening dinner. Note to all the single guys: Take your 1st dates here...it is something better than Applebees or Chilis but not nearly as expensive as Ruth Chris or Arnie Mortens. We recently came in to have an early dinner here at Nikki C's.. this place has a very classy feel when you come in with its dim lighting and Frank Sinatra, John Legend, and sexy old school R&B music playing in the background. We had the Burrata allá Panna appetizer, which was delicious! I've never had Burrata, but apparently it's an Italian mozzarella and cream mixture that is spread over a toasted bread corner. Would recommend this starter seeing as it will not fill you up before your entree arrives. I couldn't decide which Italian pasta to order so I ordered the "Nikki Trio" so I could taste several. It came with small rigatoni, lasagna, and spaghetti portions. Didn't finish the spaghetti, but would definitely order full size portions of the rigatoni and the lasagna. He ordered Salmon and the fish was marinated very well and would recommend this meal as a very light dinner option. I don't normally have a sweet tooth, but my favorite by far was the desert! I think it was called "Tam's Martini" and was pretty much gelato with fresh fruit and some shot of liquor that is poured over it all. We sat in the dining area, but we want to sit in the bar area for some drinks and that gelato martini desert the next time we come in. Though I usually hate filling up on appetizers at restaurants, I totally didn't mind gorging myself on them at Nikki C's! The short rib tacos were savory, flavored, and the meat was perfectly cooked. My uncle was like, "Whaaaat? Who puts this much meat in a taco? Amazing!" HAHA! And the chips that came with the tacos were delicious as was the salsa that came with it. Ignore that old saying: don't fill up on bread. DO fill up on bread here. It's sooo good! My family was raving about the appetizers the entire night. I got the Virtuoso pizza cooked crispy. Fantastic! The toppings tasted fresh and the crust was crunchy and thin. My uncle loved the veal and everyone was raving over the ribeye. The thing that really shined was the service. Servers were always by our table to make sure our glasses were never empty and we were never wanting. Amanda was our server and she was super attentive and friendly. Nikki, who mans the front of the restaurant, was so amiable and was happy to give me recommendations when I asked. The tiramisu was good and so was the affogato (it's really strong though, but I really enjoyed it!). Overall, it was a great dining experience and I'd definitely eat here again! read more

05/05/2014 **Update**and **Redo** So I finally made it back for pre fixe Monday. Since given the chance for a do-over from Nikki, I just I ended up bringing my BF for a nice meal - especially since he loves Italian food. Drinks - I got a moscow mule - gingery goodness!! nom nom. The BF went with a makers mark manhattan - totally interesting. Whiskey instead of vodka. heheh Good stuff. Perfect for me. Me? No so much, but it's a personal taste. I'm not huge on cranberry juice. It's a nice sizable menu - with a good selection of Happetizers (appetizers that make you happy - happetizers), entrees and food to choose from. I opted for the three course pre fixe - Appetizer - Lobster Crab Cakes. Holy moly, this was delicious. I loved the lobster sauce that accompanies the perfectly fried and seasoned crab cakes. Entree - Opted for the Sole. Crusted with cheese on a bed of risotto, mmm it was light, seasoned well and holy nom nom nom ness. I'm so happy that I opted for that! Dessert - "Spumoni" - scoop of pistachio, cherry, and chocolate gelato. A perfect light meal! woot The boyfriend went with the prosciutto and buffalo burrata plate as an appetizer and the rib eye with shrimp. The prosciutto was so thinly sliced and yummy with a huge chunk of burrata (and a balsamic reduction on top, I believe) and a bruschetta and pesto sauce to accompany the crostini bread. NOm nom! My BF's steak came out over done (luckily I remembered the last few times we have had overdone steak, and reminded him). :( However, Brittany to the rescue - she returned our plate and swiftly came back with a replacement that was so flavorful, tender, and cooked to a nice medium rare. The steak is slightly under seasoned, but a dash of salt and pepper fixed up the steak pretty well. I'm not sure why there are so many good reviews for this restaurant. I must have caught them on a bad day. A colleague and I dropped in for dinner on a week night due to its decent reviews and its proximity to our hotel. Parking is tight, even with the extra spots in the back. There were a decent amount of patrons eating, so I was didn't think much of it. The first impression I got was an old dank smell. It just smelled like an old bar. Regardless, we set down at a booth and orders hot tea and received their basket of focaccia-like bread with balsamic/olive oil that tasted okay. The blue cheese dressing on my side salad was the highlight of the entire meal. The waitress claimed it was made in house, and I'd believe it. It had just enough garlic - yum! My fusilli pasta was such a let down. There was NO garlic as stated on the menu (garlic cream sauce), and I actually had to add salt and pepper myself. I've never had to do that. Ever. The chicken was also borderline over cooked. My colleague ordered the Caesar with sirloin and was just mildly satisfied. We kind of agreed we ate our meal for the calories. Nikki C., the real live owner, messaged me after my last review and asked me to give their brunch another shot. I ordered the chorizo and eggs. The eggs had been scrambled with chorizo and it was served with warm corn tortillas and with avocado, salsa and sour cream. Each eggy, chorizo bite was really nice with good spice and a good balance of egg and sausage. My orange juice tasted bottled rather than freshly squeezed but that did not really bother me. John got the classic eggs benedict, which came with roasted potatoes. We really liked their ham, just as much as we liked it on our first visit, and it worked really well in the benedict. It's thick and smoky so it adds a lot of flavor. The food came out quickly and the service was attentive. There was quite a bustling crowd that morning watching Sunday morning football and the atmosphere was lively. Such a great place! The atmosphere is one of close friends and family joining together. The food was phenomenal and the service was amazing! I needed to charge my phone for my lyft and they had no problem with me doing so. Someone even asked to join me while I was eating, it just shows how welcoming and cthis restaurant is and I would love to go again. We drove pass Nikki C's tons of time but never noticed this place, when we decide to come here for the first time we drove passed it too cause it was dark at night. Parking lot in the back and next to it where the convenient store is. The atmosphere is a bit confusing, cause first impression is that it feels very intimate cause of the dim lighting, then to your left along the side of the restaurant, there's the European vibe with balcony with the roof top, then to your right there's a sports bar with a very modern look and 2 giant tv screens and lastly, they were playing some kind of light beat modern jazz music? All i can say is interesting choices, but a restaurant it's still about food right?! So lets talk food. The flat bread they serve you right when you sit down is AMAZING! Warm and fluffy with very light hint of garlic and rosemary. When we finished we just left the napkin unwrapped, and the waiter automatically replace it with a full basket. That is a pleasant surprise, but in the end we had 3 full baskets of bread, good thing they didn't mind letting us box those bread up or else it would be a waste. Appetizer: The Calamari Strip (4/5): It was unusual to see calamari strip cause usually it's just calamari. When it came, I thought it looked like mozzarella sticks. It turned out quite delicious! It was fresh and not cover cooked. Although i was surprised by their tarter sauce, cause the restaurant was dark, i assume the white sauce is ranch, but it turned out to be very strong pickle tasting tarter sauce. Not my favorite, but the cocktail sauce was good. "Ensenada Style" Fish Taco (4.5/5): I don't understand why would this be a appetizer cause you can't really share the tacos, it falls apart when you try to cut it (we tried to and failed), and there's only 3. But it makes a great entree, cause it's got chips and salsa on the side and the tacos were stuffed with ingredients! I guess the only difference is that appetizers don't come with soup or salad. The fish isn't the typical crispy kind you get from a taco joint. It's soft and juicy, but not mushy. I didn't add anything else and it was full of flavor! YUM! Sandwich/ Pizza: Kobe Cheeseburger (3/5): The cheeseburger is HUGE! it comes with freshly made potato chips. Not bad overall, but because it was "kobe" beef I was expecting it to be juicier. But it's more on the dry side. Santa Anita Pizza (2/5): This pizza was really not appetizing. The bread texture was ok cause it's probably the same flat bread they serve you, but it doesn't have the aroma and taste of garlic and rosemary. It's unfortunate, cause the topping (cheese, veggie, and the vinegar) didn't make it taste better. Most of the time is blend, and you get the surprising strong taste of the vinegar, cause it's drizzled unevenly. Pasta/ Entree: **all entree came with either salad or soup, the salad was very fresh and delicious, the soup of the day was white bean soup, it's not something you expect, but it's good. Linguini Pescatora (4.5/5): This pasta is AMAZING! There are so much seafood, made me so happy, (sorry for the people who are allergic cause your're missing out!) they were all very fresh too. The noodle is cooked to perfection, not too soggy and not too chewy, it also soaked the sauce perfectly. The sauce is not the typical red sauce,got the refresh taste from all the possible seafood, very good! We licked the sauce clean cause it was that good! Ribeye(3.5/5): This was mediocre. The outside tasted better cause it actually had some parts that's cooked. We asked for medium rare, but it was more on the rare side cause it became really hard to cut almost raw meat. The matchstick potato on the side was good though. BBQ Baby Back Ribs (3/5): It's not bad. But to much BBQ sauce in my opinion. The meat texture was good though. We told the waitress we were going to share and our server serve this entree to us with 2 plate automatically without us asking. One of the great things about Yelp is that people you trust have (hopefully) taken the risk out of trying new place. I have probably driven past Nikki C's hundreds of times, and always been curious. The place is really cute on the inside - lots of booths, dim lighting. Very good for dates! A brief run down on the food: Fussili gianna - Mrs. C. has a knack for ordering better than me. A delicious combo of chicken, mushrooms, and sun dried tomato in garlic cream sauce. Simply cannot go wrong with this one. Nikki's trio - I couldn't make up my mind, so I decided to go with this sampler. It was ok. Cheese ravioli was fine, angel hair & sauce was nothing special. The lasagna was definitely the best part. Bleu wedge salad - If you like bleu cheese, this is probably your salad. It's a tad strong/too much for me, but I know some people can't get enough of it. Caesar salad - wasn't the caesar salad that I had in my head, because the dressing was more like a vinaigrette than the creamy style that I was more accustomed to, but that's ok. I liked what the kitchen was trying to do. It's the details, tho, that make this place shine. You get warm bread in a basket. Who wants to eat room temperature bread?? Salad is served on chilled plates with chilled silverware. Entrees come out on very warm plates. Don't touch! Mrs. C found out the hard way. (Sweetie, they don't hold your food by the corners with a towel because it makes their job more interesting.) Came to Nikki C's because I've been curious about this location for years. There's a sign out front advertising to those passing along Rosemead: "$7 Lunch." Always craving for pasta, finally decided to give it a shot, and came here for a weekday lunch at noon. There's a warmth with it's wooden furniture. Dimly lit all around, creating an intimate mood. The walls and decor give an Italian feel. What didn't really match was the upbeat jazz music playing in the background... If they just tweek the music, this would totally give off a romantic vibe fit for two. For some reason, instead of attracting business clientele at noon, the majority of the people there leaned more towards the elderly. Perhaps that should have clued me in on what to expect... The waitress was friendly, but EXTREMELY slow. Didn't seem very busy while we were there, though perhaps it was because they were short staffed? I dunno. I got their lemonade ($2.95), and while it was said to be fresh squeezed by the waitress, the sweetener in it gave a bad taste in my mouth each time I took a sip. Bleh! For a place that I thought served pasta, there weren't many pasta dishes on their lunch menu. I've been coming here since it opened. It definitely has changed as everything does. Food is good, service is not as good. This was a nicer place to go to wear at least a collared shirt. Been here twice and I can say that I enjoyed myself here. I ate the lobster grilled cheese and split a Caesar salad. The lobster grilled cheese was just ok. It wasn't what I had imagined I guess. The lobster tasted a tad bit fishy actually. In addition, the Caesar salad was the typical salad with Cesar dressing no anchovies, but good nonetheless. Ate my meal with a white wine. Listen up!!! This place is trash...omg lol it's a complete joke. The food is nothing less then frozen, then served up on to a plate and sent out. My wife had the fish and chips, lol...all 3 pieces of fish are exactly the same size and shape, deep fried and probably forgotten in the fryer because it's way over cooked. My pasta was laughable at best, so basic, no flavor and not even hot. The waitress was horrible, taking forever to come take our order, forgetting what we asked for and returning to the table like it was her first time seeing us - what's my advice to her?? You should have stayed in school Anyone leaving 3 stars or higher for this restaurant might as well go eat in the cafeteria of the convalescent home on north Fairoaks Ave you just might get a better meal. I have been to this place for many years and it's been good, until one day I took my family there and the owner came out and gave us two $10 dollars gift cards for thanking us. It expires by end of March, so I order dinner to go one day and try to use both gift cards before it expires, however, the owner, Niki, came out and told us that we can Not use both gift cards at one purchase. It didn't say anywhere on the card that you can't use multiple gift cards at one time! After a long conversation, she would not honor the $20 dollars gift card she gave us, took both cards ($20) from us and only give us $13 dollars discount. WTF? Lunch was fabulous! It's a very hot day outside but you would never know it inside this neighborhood gem. Dimly lit, cool and cozy. Water was served immediately and our orders taken. Shortly, the best Cobb salad with dressing on the side was served. This salad was so fresh and delicious, I hesitated even putting any dressing on it. The presentation was beautiful too. We came here 2 years ago and everything was nice. The food and services was good. This time we came here during the pandemic, the outdoor and indoor seatings are open. There were not much customers however, we have been waiting outside for a seat for quit a while, and the waitress told us to sit at the table someone finished and still had food on it. We were full of questions. Later on another waiter took the food away and he didn't even sanitize the table and the seat. After we sanitized everything by ourselves and sit down, we waited for 20 minutes for someone to come over. No menus, no water. We asked for menus and after another 10 mins the waiter brought us water and no menus. We saw the people came later then us already got their drink orders. So we just left. This was definitely Asian hate/discrimination. Don't come here unless you are Caucasian. Asians are definitely unwelcomed. read more

Got to try this restaurant today. Called in my order for the chopped antipasto (lunch size). The gentleman on the phone stated that it would be ready in 2mins. Great I'm just down the street. Pulled up to the restaurant and I scored a parking spot right in front. (one handicap and two "regular" parking space) don't worry people there is also parking in the back of the restaurant. Walked in, no host to greet me. The bar is visible and I make eye contact with the bartender, but still no greet?? Umm ok. Waited about 5mins til the host came to the front with my order. They have a check-in offer 15% off your food; so I tell the host "I have a check-in offer!" Tells me he has to ring it over again. He disappears to the back for another couple minutes. Comes back with the new price and tells me I'm the first one to show the yelp deal, gives me the credit slip to sign, tells me have a good day, and walks away. ERRRR???!! dude, you could have waited til after I signed. I was generous and tipped $2. Onto the salad. The salad is good and is a decent lunch size. They packed the dressing on the side which is good because its a bit on the salty side (writing the review while I'm eating) Note to self: Will tell them to toss the salad before packing. All the good stuff is on top and by the time i got to the bottom of the salad it was just lettuce. but, no problem I love lettuce. I go to Nikki C's for one thing and one thing only. The cioppino. It's hands down the best cioppino I've had and I've had a lot. I've had cioppino up and down the pacific coast and this is still the best. It has a great light tomato base that includes good size shrimp, clams, mussels and white fish. It's piping hot and served with garlic bread for dipping. Perfect. I made a mistake once and got the ribeye here. It was not good. I don't know what they did or didn't do, but all they had to do what add some Montreal seasoning. The service is always good. Even when they are short staffed or plain busy. The bar area is cool. Nice and dark and they have a few games playing on the TV's. If you like horse racing you'll like the subtle thoroughbred theme here. read more

Happened to be around the area and decided to check this place out. It's a very small, intimate place with TV's to watch sports at the bar. The staff was extremely nice. We ordered the Lobster Grilled Cheese and the Vongole. The Lobster Grilled Cheese was ok. Nothing too special. We didn't care for the chips that came with them. Though they were freshly made, it lacked flavor in our opinon. The Vongole was also mediocre. Maybe I just wasn't feeling that hungry anymore and the dish just didn't "wow" me. 3 stars because I really enjoyed the intimate setting and the staff. There are a few other things I would like to try, so I will give it another chance and hopefully that will sway my opinion. read more

Nikki C's is one of the restaurants on our regular rotation. We love this place! The ambiance is cozy, romantic, and quaint -- and the food is AMAZING. I don't think we've had anything we didn't like! Definitely a great spot. This review is mostly to praise our waiter tonight, Roger. It was a busy night and the place was packed, and it seemed like they might be short on servers, but Roger was incredible. Friendly, kind, attentive, and super on it. He handled the pressure like a champ. (Also, I always forget to get his name, but the sweet man who drops the bread and busses tables is one of many reasons we keep coming back. First time here and love it! Great food, service and atmosphere. Our server Victoria was warm, respectful and attentive. Not many vegan options but the marinara sauce and mixed salad were delicious. All staff we interacted with were also very attentive. The bar was very cool with an old school vibe. Can't wait to come back and try their Negroni! read more

OK, Nikki's has been one of our neighborhood go to places for years. I have traditionally given rave reviews, but not tonight. After 25 minutes without anyone even taking a drink order, we just got up and left. The problem, as far as I am concerned Nikki, if your name is on the marquee, you need to show up and manage your restaurant. Well, we went back for brunch today. Very nice intimate dinning expirence. My Hubby treated me to dinner and we couldnt of agreed on a better spot. Our first time visiting Nikki c's and it definately wont be our last. We had no reservations, walked in around 5:30 and got seated right of way. The menu had alot of yummy choices but i settled for a Lobster Grilled Cheese Sandwich on toasted Brioche with a side of fresh baked potato chips. My hubby settled for the Tuscan Osso Bucco (tender pork shank) with a side of pasta. His dish also came with a Chicken Noodle soup that was also very tasty. Very nice date atmosphere, a little pricey for the quality. Most of the food at the table was great. Not to thrilled about the pasta I ordered but the Kobe burgers and appetizers we had were delicious. . Waitress corked our wine bottle but it was an old bottle so no harm, however they didn't have a nice wine decanter to pour it into, they used a juice style one to put wine in. .. so they will have to work on that. If you are going to charge a corkage you need to know what you are doing when handling wine. ... just saying. Parking is a lol difficult but doable. It wasn't a totally bad experience we had a great time and heard they have a good brunch so I will try it again! read more

This use to be my favorite restaurant. It was so consistent and the food was delicious. Lately it's been hit and miss. I still like it and only took away one star. I was there Saturday and the host that greeted us had on wrinkled shirts and a ski hat. Some of my friends came in and he told them I can't seat you tonight. They asked if they could wait at the bar for a seat and he just told them no. What's up! It's not that I won't go back but step it up please. read more
