Bento box : Bbq short ribs, Salmon sashimi

Visited last night. Enjoyed dinner bento with Bbq short ribs and salmon sashimi, and rainbow roll. The fish was soo good and fresh, that it would just melt in my mouth! Food was delicious as before, even the tempura is crisp yet non greasy. Hot miso soup and tea presented as soon as we sat down, so that was nice during rainy night. All in all, delicious food and great service, will return!

Excellent sushi spot in Berkeley. Came here with my girlfriend on Valentine's Day for dinner. We had 4 of their specialty rolls: Rose Garden Roll, Nikko Roll, OMG Roll, and Jungle Roll. To start our meal, we were served a bowl of miso soup. It was nice and hot. Loved the broth and savory flavors of the tofu and seaweed. It was a great way to start our meal. We also had a cup of green tea. It was served in a nicely decorated cup. As for the rolls, they were all quite delicious. I loved the Jungle Roll in particular. The spicy tuna and seaweed salad was a wonderful combination. The spice of the tuna paired well with the sweetness of the seaweed salad. The Rose Garden Roll was very pleasing to the eyes. The yellowtail, tuna, and salmon combination mimicked rose flowers. Very tasty and refreshing. The OMG Roll had a wonderful variety of ingredients. Shrimp tempura, kani (crab), cucumber, spicy tuna, unagi (eel), avocado, spicy mayonnaise, eel sauce, and tobiko (flying fish egg roe) gave this roll a nice mixture of flavors and textures. Loved that the spice and sweetness paired well with one another. The Nikko Roll was good. The spicy tuna, cucumber, salmon, avocado, tobiko, and onion combo offset the roll very well. All 4 rolls were very delicious. The rice was cooked perfectly. The portion sizes were good enough for me and my girlfriend. Service was excellent. The staff were very friendly and efficient on a busy Valentine's Day evening. We did not have to wait for too long to get ourselves seated at the bar. The food came in relatively quickly. Parking was not too bad. We were able to find a spot across the street from the restaurant. The restroom is a little bit of a walk within the restaurant. You will need a key to access the restroom. Overall, excellent experience at this restaurant. Would definitely come back here again and try their other rolls and dishes.

    Chicken teriyaki/sashimi lunch special bento

Tried this place for the first time with friends and was impressed with the freshness of food, portions, and service. Ordered the bento box lunch special with chicken teriyaki/sashimi. Place was also very spacious and we were seated quickly!

After a mini hike, sushi was definitely the way to go! The place is medium sized and not busy for a Saturday night. Definitely a welcoming vibe and lots of windows for light to pour in too! Our server was friendly and tended to us right away. I decided to order the mackerel and unagi hand roll. My friend ordered the short rib bento box. We split the green tea tempura ice cream at the end & shared the mango sake throughout the dinner. The mackerel was delicious and cooked to my liking. I like it wasn't salty and overly sauced. I'd come back for the mackerel alone! Also, if you're here, definitely get the mango sake! If you like sweet drinks, this one tasted like mango yogurt! The tempura ice cream was bigger than I thought so I'm glad we split. The tempura was nicely crispy -- a really good balance of hot and cold dessert!

Located in downtown Berkeley, Nikko Sushi is a small sushi establishment with plenty of seating. I went on a Saturday night so the restaurant was packed! This place seems like a popular spot for the college students that attend school nearby. There were two servers on the floor that night so the service was a little lack luster unfortunately, but I did appreciate how often they checked in on us despite it being busy. They did forget to bring us a couple items and we had to ask multiple times, but I dont blame them. We ordered the chicken karage, chicken katsu curry, and the hamachi lover roll. We were served the chicken karage first since it's an appetizer. I'm not sure if it usually comes with a sauce or not but we had to ask for a spicy mayo since it was lacking in flavor. I did enjoy the crunch factor though! The katsu in the katsu curry was delicious, the breading and chicken ratio was pretty even. However the curry was a bit disappointing.. there was no vegetables in it at all, no potatoes or onions.. just the sauce. The taste was average, nothing spectacular about it. The hamachi lover roll came out last. We were sitting for about an hour before the roll came out, i was a bit shocked by how long it took. The fish was extremely fresh and it melted in my mouth! It was delicious! However I wish the roll was rolled a bit tighter as the rice fell apart when I would try to pick it up and dip it in the soysauce.

On a hot day I decided to come over to UCB campus for a bento box. My typical spot was closed so I had to pick something new and Nikko won the dice-roll based on the pictures. The inside is a little more than casual with dark toned furniture and chairs which makes it feel grounding. I knew I was getting the bbq short ribs bento, and I got some cold, fruity sake as well. First I was served some soup and the sake-- which was nice and cold. The bento came in good time and looked divine and you can feel the heat coming off the plate. The bento came with 5 pieces of short ribs, 4 batter friend vegetables, one battered shrimp, 3 gyozo, rice, and a mini salad. The beef was tender and flavorful and the gyozo nice and crispy. The fried veggie seemed like they were fried in clean oil. There's a lot of food, i had to take some home. It was a quite day and staff was not needed too much, so I have no comments on staff other than the woman who helped me was welcoming and friendly. I thought about giving a 5 but I'm trying to be reasonable about them. So I wonder what would need to be present to give a perfect score. I cant think of much, based on what I came in for and what I got. If anything maybe the salad could include a little more than just a bag mix of romaine from the store? I won't hold it against them that it was hot inside- I mean, wouldn't be cool to expect AC. So I give it a 4, but it's really 4 and change: . Im trying to have some method to giving perfect 5s. As far as subjective experience goes-- deff a spot to stop in for lunch! With tax, the bento and sake came to $35.50 ($21.20 for bento, $11.00 for sake). So for a hearty meal, with some sake, and a meal for later

Came in for a little Sunday brunch around 1:30pm, restaurant was fairly empty. The service was good, but a little slow at the sushi bar with about 3 tables with guests. We had Spicy Garlic Edamame, Real Crab California Rolls, Nigiri & Sashimi Combo. The fish was fresh but the quality was average. The prices is right.

Yummy sushi spot located in downtown Berkeley, close to UC campus and telegraph. The nigiri combo was great, and filled everyone up quite well, along with the few rolls we got. Service was pretty quick too, although the price was a tiny bit high. Still worth!

My friends and I were in Berkeley and the group wanted sushi so we ended up here. After circling the block a bit we ended up finding metered/paid parking in front of the shop. It's smaller inside so they needed to push a couple of tables together for our group of 7. Luckily it wasn't too busy when we arrived on a Saturday late night. All in all, a good experience. I went for the chicken teriyaki + gyoza + tempura bento ($22). Generous portions of everything and it was enough for me to share. Service was great, especially with helping out our larger group. One thing to note: you'll need a key for their restroom and it's all the way down a long hallway. Not gonna lie I was a creeped out at first, but I survived haha.

This sushi spot is definitely a favorite in Berkeley. There isn't a lot of seating in this restaurant so depending on when you go there might be a wait, however, it's never too long. Every time I've gone here the staff has been very sweet (although the food does take a bit to arrive to your table after ordering). I've tried so many of their rolls and dishes but I don't think I could choose a favorite. The roll that I was most surprised by was the lobster roll as it was absolutely massive (but also delicious). Although this place doesn't actually seem very authentic, it's not bad either. Definitely worth the try and the creativity of the rolls is amazing.

Inside is definitely cozy and you'll be sitting fairly close to the tables next to you. Service was really fast and easy - no complaints at all! The food was all great. Standouts were garlic edamame, 6pc omakase, beef tongue, pork belly, negitoro maki, corn tempura, & sweet potato creme brulee. Edamame was lightly charred and salted well, with generous amount of garlic flavor. Omakase was fresh and tasty, although a tiny bit small so definitely perhaps get your own instead of sharing one order between two. Beef tongue was hands down the best thing. I thought it was a boneless short rib with how tender it was (can break apart with chopsticks). The pork belly was also soft and went well with the spicy miso. Negitoro was fresh and the wasabi was grated very well. Corn tempura was perfectly fried and very crispy while still being soft inside. Lastly, the creme brulee was a great dessert. You do get a hint of the sweet potato. Would love to return to try other dishes!

The restaurant was packed and seating is pretty limited, so I'd highly recommend making a reservation ahead of time. The atmosphere is lively and energetic with casual Japanese eatery vibes, and service was friendly throughout the meal. Everything felt creative, rich in flavor, and very texture-focused. Here are the highlights: * Ankimo Mousse (monkfish liver) with sweet potato chips - Made with truffle paste, capers, and chives. Absolutely delicious. The mousse was rich and savory but surprisingly fluffy in texture -- honestly a savory girl's dream. The sweet potato chips added just enough sweetness and a snap to balance the richness of the liver. 9/10 * Bluefin Tuna & Tsubugai Sashimi Nuta - Bluefin tuna, sea snail, broccolini, and fresh wakame tossed in a sweet Kyoto yuzu miso vinaigrette. Kind of like a sashimi-seaweed salad. I really liked the vinaigrette and especially the texture of the sea snail. I'm not sure all the ingredients fully came together cohesively, but it was still enjoyable overall. 7.5/10 * Yuba (house-made tofu skin with ikura and uni) - Served as single bites on spoons. SO good. You can really taste the difference between house-made tofu skin and store-bought. It's much more delicate, creamy, and tender, with a mild soybean flavor that balanced the richness of the uni and salmon roe beautifully. The textures in this bite were incredible. 9.5/10 * Iberico Pork Jowl Skewer with miso marinade - I honestly prefer pork jowl over pork belly. The fat and meat are more integrated instead of layered, so every bite is tender, juicy, and flavorful with just the right amount of chew. So good. 9/10 * Clam & Cilantro Ramen - I've never had a ramen broth quite like this. It was slightly creamy and deeply flavored from the clams, and the cilantro added a lot of depth and freshness. The noodles had a great texture too -- chewy and bouncy. Everything worked together perfectly. 9/10 * Uni Carbonara Pasta - Pasta with parmesan, uni, and ikura. They do not skimp on the uni or roe here. Super creamy and rich with bursts of saltiness from the ikura. The texture was great, but I honestly wished it had just a tiny bit more salt to really make all the flavors pop. It was almost there for me. 7.5/10 * Desserts - We tried two desserts, including the sweet potato brûlée. Both were delicious. One had a silky panna cotta-like texture, while the sweet potato brûlée was creamy, lightly sweet, and had the perfect crackly sugar top. 9/10 Overall, such a fun meal with a lot of unique dishes and flavor combinations. There are still so many things on the menu I want to try next time. I'll definitely be back.
