Decided to stop by this spot while in Berkeley. Parking is tough as usual in Berkeley but we secured a spot a block away. As we walked in, we were quickly seated, ordered and given ice water after asking. The window we sat next to gave us lots of natural light before the sunset. Our meal came with complimentary miso which was great. The gyoza is delicious. Shortly after we finished our rolls came. My philly and avo-cu rolls were fresh and yummy. My boyfriend liked the city roll but didn't really care for the delicious roll because of the cooked fish on top. If you like cooked fish on sushi maybe you would enjoy that roll better! The spot is decent. I wouldn't say the ambience is romantic or fancy but def a pleasant sit down. I went and caught up with a friend for dinner. The fish wasn't HIGH quality but considering price I think it was solid. No "fishy" taste and I didn't feel any kind of queasy-ness which is important with sushi lol Service was efficient and kind. We got there around 6 and ordered edamame and three rolls. We had finished eating within 30-45 minutes bc the food itself also came quick. The rolls were good in my opinion and I would come again to try other rolls. After we ate though they did keep looking at us as we talked. I understand common courtesy of not over saying you're welcome at a restaurant, but they weren't that busy in terms of seating. Excellent sushi spot in Berkeley. Came here with my girlfriend on Valentine's Day for dinner. We had 4 of their specialty rolls: Rose Garden Roll, Nikko Roll, OMG Roll, and Jungle Roll. To start our meal, we were served a bowl of miso soup. It was nice and hot. Loved the broth and savory flavors of the tofu and seaweed. It was a great way to start our meal. We also had a cup of green tea. It was served in a nicely decorated cup. As for the rolls, they were all quite delicious. I loved the Jungle Roll in particular. The spicy tuna and seaweed salad was a wonderful combination. The spice of the tuna paired well with the sweetness of the seaweed salad. The Rose Garden Roll was very pleasing to the eyes. The yellowtail, tuna, and salmon combination mimicked rose flowers. Very tasty and refreshing. The OMG Roll had a wonderful variety of ingredients. Shrimp tempura, kani (crab), cucumber, spicy tuna, unagi (eel), avocado, spicy mayonnaise, eel sauce, and tobiko (flying fish egg roe) gave this roll a nice mixture of flavors and textures. Loved that the spice and sweetness paired well with one another. The Nikko Roll was good. The spicy tuna, cucumber, salmon, avocado, tobiko, and onion combo offset the roll very well. All 4 rolls were very delicious. The rice was cooked perfectly. The portion sizes were good enough for me and my girlfriend. Service was excellent. The staff were very friendly and efficient on a busy Valentine's Day evening. We did not have to wait for too long to get ourselves seated at the bar. The food came in relatively quickly. Parking was not too bad. We were able to find a spot across the street from the restaurant. The restroom is a little bit of a walk within the restaurant. You will need a key to access the restroom. After a mini hike, sushi was definitely the way to go! The place is medium sized and not busy for a Saturday night. Definitely a welcoming vibe and lots of windows for light to pour in too! Our server was friendly and tended to us right away. I decided to order the mackerel and unagi hand roll. My friend ordered the short rib bento box. We split the green tea tempura ice cream at the end & shared the mango sake throughout the dinner. The mackerel was delicious and cooked to my liking. I like it wasn't salty and overly sauced. Located in downtown Berkeley, Nikko Sushi is a small sushi establishment with plenty of seating. I went on a Saturday night so the restaurant was packed! This place seems like a popular spot for the college students that attend school nearby. There were two servers on the floor that night so the service was a little lack luster unfortunately, but I did appreciate how often they checked in on us despite it being busy. They did forget to bring us a couple items and we had to ask multiple times, but I dont blame them. We ordered the chicken karage, chicken katsu curry, and the hamachi lover roll. We were served the chicken karage first since it's an appetizer. I'm not sure if it usually comes with a sauce or not but we had to ask for a spicy mayo since it was lacking in flavor. I did enjoy the crunch factor though! The katsu in the katsu curry was delicious, the breading and chicken ratio was pretty even. However the curry was a bit disappointing.. there was no vegetables in it at all, no potatoes or onions.. just the sauce. The taste was average, nothing spectacular about it. The hamachi lover roll came out last. We were sitting for about an hour before the roll came out, i was a bit shocked by how long it took. The fish was extremely fresh and it melted in my mouth! The inside is a little more than casual with dark toned furniture and chairs which makes it feel grounding. I knew I was getting the bbq short ribs bento, and I got some cold, fruity sake as well. First I was served some soup and the sake-- which was nice and cold. The bento came in good time and looked divine and you can feel the heat coming off the plate. The bento came with 5 pieces of short ribs, 4 batter friend vegetables, one battered shrimp, 3 gyozo, rice, and a mini salad. The beef was tender and flavorful and the gyozo nice and crispy. The fried veggie seemed like they were fried in clean oil. There's a lot of food, i had to take some home. It was a quite day and staff was not needed too much, so I have no comments on staff other than the woman who helped me was welcoming and friendly. I thought about giving a 5 but I'm trying to be reasonable about them. So I wonder what would need to be present to give a perfect score. I cant think of much, based on what I came in for and what I got. If anything maybe the salad could include a little more than just a bag mix of romaine from the store? It's smaller inside so they needed to push a couple of tables together for our group of 7. Luckily it wasn't too busy when we arrived on a Saturday late night. All in all, a good experience. I went for the chicken teriyaki + gyoza + tempura bento ($22). Generous portions of everything and it was enough for me to share. Service was great, especially with helping out our larger group. This sushi spot is definitely a favorite in Berkeley. There isn't a lot of seating in this restaurant so depending on when you go there might be a wait, however, it's never too long. Every time I've gone here the staff has been very sweet (although the food does take a bit to arrive to your table after ordering). I've tried so many of their rolls and dishes but I don't think I could choose a favorite. The roll that I was most surprised by was the lobster roll as it was absolutely massive (but also delicious). Although this place doesn't actually seem very authentic, it's not bad either. Definitely worth the try and the creativity of the rolls is amazing. read more

Go to sushi spot since the beginning of the pandemic. Quality is always good and the sushi to rice portion is perfect. Other places will not give you as much fish, but not here. Location is great as well as it's in downtown Berkeley. The service is also great although mostly I eat is takeout but the times I dine in I'm reminded that they do Indian act have good service. For the past couple of days, I've been stuck in quarantine. Nikko Sushi was the perfect solution for all my issues. I ordered the Lion King Roll and Crazy Roll. My roommate ordered the O. M. G. Roll. Both of our rolls were delicious. The fish was fresh and fish roe tasted really good as well. I enjoyed the Crazy Roll more than the Lion King Roll. The servings were also larger than I expected which was a nice surprise. I ordered online and it was still as yummy. They also offered large portions of wasabi and ginger. Really enjoyed the food and sake here, but the service wasn't great. Priced reasonably for the quality. We came in just under an hour before close and were seated immediately. Our server checked in quickly and got our orders in within the first few minutes. They didn't have a vegetarian option to substitute for the miso soup, which isn't a big deal but would've been nice. Food came out relatively quickly. However, we ended up having to fetch chopsticks ourselves. Rolls themselves were fantastic. Paired well with the ginger and wasabi (which was shaped into a flower!). I got the Sakura Roll. We also opted for one of their cold sake options (I think #10?) and that hit the spot too. At this point, our server prematurely brought out the check. We wanted to order the tempura ice cream and didn't have the chance to because they didn't give us the opportunity to order more or let us know if/when the kitchen was closing for the night. A group of us were looking to share some sushi rolls and found this place close by in Berkeley, which offered a variety of specialty rolls! We stopped by around lunchtime on a Sunday to order takeout and everything was ready within the 15-20 minute timeframe they quoted. Orange Blossom Roll: We only ordered 1 roll with raw fish since some people didn't care much for it. I really enjoy raw fish, so was excited to try this. The salmon and tuna tasted fresh! Lobster Roll: I would say this was my favorite roll we ordered, especially since I've never had anything like it. I really enjoyed the baked lobster and the topping added lots of flavor / texture. Lobster is pretty delicate in flavor and the amount of sauce did drown it out a bit. It can also get pretty messy to separate the individual pieces because of how it's all baked together. Lion King Roll: This was my first time trying this! I thought it was delicious, but those who have had it before said it wasn't as saucy as they expected. Dragon Roll: Typically one of my favorite rolls. I wish there had been a bit more texture with the tempura (it was a bit soft) and more eel in the roll. Overall, this is a solid sushi place with lots of variety and good service. I enjoyed all the rolls, but they are a bit pricey and I wish there had been some slight adjustments in the flavor (with me just being picky). Very disappointed with the spider roll which was one of my go-to rolls. The spider roll was listed on the "basic rolls" section of the menu. It was literally just that... basic! We were in the area and looking for a sushi restaurant. Thank you Yelp for helping us find a great spot on Shattuck! We came by on Sunday around 4pm for takeout. Parking was super easy, parked right out front. They are only doing takeout as of May 2021. They have all the safety covid protocols in place, including hand sanitizer and plexiglass shields. We ordered a crazy roll and the cherry blossom. We walked around the area, and checked out the bookstore down the block. Our order was ready as promised, took about 15 to 20 minutes for them to make. They have Apple Pay. Everything was delicious! My daughter was so hungry that she ate her rolls in the car. They packed enough soy sauce, pickled ginger, and wasabi. The fish was very fresh.
