When the sun is out during a heatwave some go straight to salty Pacific Ocean waters and some hang out at air condition supermarkets and shopping malls. When it gets hot some like sweet tea and some like sour tea and some just like spilling the tea. Although I been having lots of tea lately with matcha for Don Juan La matcha when it comes to finding something to eat when it's hot has some limitations. Clam chowder soup, angel hair pasta and baked potatoes aren't on the bingo card for food choices during the heatwave. There is one secret food I gravitate for when the sun is out and that is a burrito. Not any burrito or a Mission style burrito but a Sushi Burrito you will find at Sushi Secrets. On a Summer stroll I landed in Downtown Berkeley at Sushi Secrets. Inside there is plenty of seating and you order the food at the counter. The menu at Sushi Secrets has BYO ( Build Your Own) Poke bowls and Sushi Burritos. I got the BYO Sushi Burrito with three proteins. It was so tasty and reminded me of the now defunct Sushirito in SF but better. The salmon was fresh along with the crab salad it had some corn like some on my social media feed. It also had honey avocado sauce along with masago also known as Japanese caviar bumps. They also sell over a dozen types of sushi rolls. The secret is out at Sushi Secrets. During the heatwave we try to hide from the sun under some" trees" and are hopeful for a Summer "breeze "but you can refresh and go to a place that's sells burritos that are "Japanese" and they have over a dozen of sushi rolls but the Philadelphia Roll is the only one that comes with "cheese" The secrets is revealed and its Sushi Secrets in Downtown Berkeley between the cities of Oakland , Emeryville, and "El Cerrito" a place when you are hungry during the heatwave and want a "burrito" but it's more like a sushi one like at the former "Sushirito "and head to the Berkeley Hills and on a sunny day see the view of the Pacific Ocean, Golden Gate Bridge and "Sausalito" read more

Placed a pickup order through snack pass, showed up, and they were not even aware of my order at all. I was even a bit late past the pickup window so I figured the food would be ready at least.. but nope! Not great service right off the bat. Good thing poke bowls don't take long to make. Our office ordered from here a couple of weeks ago and everyone really enjoyed their food! I brought the other half of my sushirito home for my daughter and she absolutely loved it! So when we were in town over the weekend that is where she wanted to go. Service is great don't get me wrong but they are to the point//order and keep it going! Sushi Secrets is the best poke restaurant in Berkeley in terms of portions, price, and food quality. They also have very unique sauce selections, my personal favorite are the: Unagi, Poke, Spicy Mango and Japanese Kimchee. In my opinion, poke places make themselves stand out based on their fish quality, and the tuna and salmon here feels extremely fresh and high quality, better than the other places in the area. They know which ingredients complement each other and how to proportion it right. I have tried numerous other sushi burrito places in the Bay Area and in NYC and Sushi Secrets beats them all. Plus, their prices and portions are very agreeable! I've ordered the Gunki to go many a time and it is packaged so well that I have never made a mess, or even had concerns about making a mess, while carrying my food in a purse or in hand to eat elsewhere. There is a small dining area past the ordering counter and there is usually available seating if you'd prefer to dine in. However, this place is counter service only so you'll have to get your own water and bus your own table. If I still lived nearby I would order from here every week with no regrets. Affordable large portions that I go to in-between classes as a student in Berkeley. You have to make sure to ask for your drink if you buy one or other things when you're at the counter because sometimes they forget. However, I ended up throwing most of my food away. I ordered the salmon sushirito, and it was stuffed with wasabi. The sheer quantity of it was revolting, and I could eat almost none of it without feeling my sinuses burn and having my eyes well up. With 5 basic tastes and maybe 5 big textures, there is a 25-taste-texture ingredient-space to exist in. Two bites means 25*25 = 625 mouth-possibilities. Sushi Secrets is where you go to optimize actualization of mouth-possibilities for the dollar. Within this taste-texture space, there exists a theoretical equilibrium of mush, but the point is to dance around it. Their ingredients are extremely fresh. If there was a 0-1 value for freshness, their pineapple was a 1.1, it literally broke my preconceived notions of what pineapple could be. Almost candy-like, and cut into perfect chunks for a burst of refreshing-sweet, usually after umami. It is fun to go umami-heavy. At other places, your proteins are all mushy, but here it can be crunchy too. Having fried stuff gives you a way bigger subset of the 625 outcome space. The crisp-umami/creamy-sour combo is good. Try it out... there's multiple ways to reach that. You can tell that they think about how the ingredients work together as they make the bowl, so that it forms in perfect ratio. They don't skimp -- I've never gotten that rice-only feeling with them. This poke is at the pinnacle of what poke can be. Also the sushi is good. The world needs to experience this place. It is one of the greatest human experiences. If I was CEO of the world I would get it catered for lunch every day. My least favorite parts were the salads - the seaweed salad isn't normal for a bento and also didn't have much flavor.
