Food is just average. Prices not too bad. Ordered burgers medium rare and medium. Both were well done. We didn't mention it and the server to her credit offered to have them remade when she noticed. We were both pretty tired and declined. The server then offered a desert or discount on the bill. We accepted the discount. We'll be back. This place seems to be well run if they empower the server to make good on things like this. We weren't complaining and weren't even going to mention it. A nice looking bar perhaps the best one in Marengo. the food seemed great and the people were enjoying what they ordered. A overall good western look in this ghost town of a main street. There is plenty of good beer here and the locals seemed ore normal and healthier looking in this place than some of the cats I saw walking into other near by bars. I would recommend because the apps we ordered were great! Khrystal recommended pretzel sticks, which were awesome!! I wouldnt recommend going here for drinks at the bar. It was a Friday, my first time being there, and service was SO slow. Servers standing at the end of the bar and one bartender for the whole bar- Which at 10 PM, the main business is bar business. Took awhile to get bartenders attention and to order beer, not just my group, but the entire end of the bar we sat at. The bartender was favoring one side and the rest of the bar kind of got the shaft. Luckily we knew someone who worked there so we got her to get the attention of the bartender. The bartender needs help on busy Fridays!! She cant do it alone, or she needs a little practice on tending a busy bar. Also says they have country music and theres a juke box inside. The music playing was house music. We also put money in and we heard one Garth Brooks song and the bartender changed it. Had we known the bartender had control of the music, we wouldnt have put money in lol We ended up leaving and going to Sam's across the street, which was busier, but we were served quickly. read more

On our way to Lake Geneva and stopped at this little sports bar in Marengo IL. My wife and I weren't very hungry but wanted a quick bite to eat to hold us over until we got to our hotel. We decided on the black bean burger. We were both nervous, this wasn't the type of place that seemed to be big on black bean burgers (hunting trophies everywhere). To our surprise, the burger patty was excellent, probably the best veggie burger I've had in a long time. Good job Niko's, never judge a book by it's cover. read more

My boyfriend and I went here last night for the first time. We were on our way back from Rockford, were hungry, and this looked like a good place to stop. Boy, are we glad we did! The service was great and the food was delicious! The manager that night - George, I believe his name was - even gave us a little coin for a free drink. I also liked the atmosphere of this place - very upbeat - and the way the inside was decorated. I highly recommend. We will be back! read more

We have been customers since they opened. They were great when Cheryl was manager and waitresses were Cari and Krystal were there. The cook who was Mexican was great. Now the food has deteriorated and service has gone down. We will not be going there until things improve. Niko made a mistake by letting Cheryl go. She was a people person. The last time we've had food from here it they weren't good experiences to the burger not having any flavor at all and being really greasy. The rest of the food just seemed to be down hill from what we have had previously. read more

Started off with the Saganaki, which was pretty good. With the main dish,(BBQ Rib's,Garlic Mashed Potatoes & Fresh Veggi's) i had the Tortilla Soup, which had no Tortillas in it, except for the little bit of finely crushed Tortillas thrown on top. The Rib's Tasted like they were boiled and the bottom side, never seen the broiler. They were not "Fall Off The Bone" which i prefere, because i like eating my Rib's off the bone, not with a fork! The Mashed Potatoes had not even the slightest hint of Garlic taste to them.(CHEF, taste your food!) The Veggie's,were cooked perfect. The Wife had the Meatloaf wich was "ok", All and all not overly impressed. Will give it another try though. Most people were eating Burgers, and could over hear them saying how good they were. I liked the location and the decor. Good variety on the menu but the food is a little pricey. The fries were really good but the pulled pork was a little dry. I do like the pretzel rolls the sandwiches are served on. I wasn't impressed with the staff. Hostess seemed disinterested and the waitress rushed us through our meal bringing by a box while I was still working on finishing the other half of my sandwich. Liked this place well enough to go back. Hoping for a better experience with the staff next time around. read more

Good food for the money. They have a spicy chicken pasta that I love. Great place to hang out with friends. They have a DJ on Friday and Saturday nights at 10. Not enough room to dance but still fun to listen to the music. read more

A step above greasy bar food. Generally good service and good food at reasonable prices. I've tried their salads and wraps and they give sizable portions or fresh veggies in both. Their home-made ranch is a little on the salty side but still yummy. Twice we've had exceptionally slow wait staff, but we've gone over a dozen other times with no issue. Ive been here a few times and with the exception of one other time this is a great place. Good food (high price), tv has improved, last time I was there I had to watch the wnba (barf). (never had an empty beer), great service from the bartender. Only small thing was that the house music played louder than the juke box, but I survived. Niko's Pointers Saloon a bit of a disappointment. My family frequents the Red Mill in Woodstock and LOVES it, which is the same owner . We live in Marengo so I was seriously waiting for this place to open. We went the first week it was open to eat and the food was pretty good much like the Red Mill as the menu is almost identical minus the pizza. They were crowded and all the people seemed to be really upbeat. So the second time we went the atmosphere was totally different. Much less positive and more like they we not so pleased to serve you. I figured it was an off night and the following week we at Red Mill instead, which was good as usual. 3 days later we went to Pointers for the 3rd and probably final time which was New Years Day. The place was pretty empty and the staff was not really welcoming, as we ate the staff almost hovered over us waiting to take the plates away. 2 times during our meal some one tried to take a plate we were eating off of, like fork in hand, eating off of. It is such a bummer to me because we need a great restaurant in Marengo. I hope the owner takes this review to heart, because I want this place to be as great as the Red Mill almost as much as he should. I love the Red Mill and want to love Pointers, it just is not the same quality or upbeat staff. As of right now I really would not recommend it, especially when you can go to Woodstock and be guaranteed a great experience. read more

went there for the first time on Thursday the 11th Feb 2016. Was greeted right away at the bar by the barmaid with a nice smile and pleasant countenance. I wish I could remember her name but will not venture a guess and do her a disservice by guessing wrong...I was there with my buddy at about 1pm that day. We ordered a reuben and a burger and we were both very pleased with the quality and the price point. I specifically requested my burger cooked a certain method and she said it could be accommodated The burger arrived hot and cooked as requested. By the way, the burger is a whopping 10 oz and it comes with fries on the side. My buddy enjoyed his reuben as well and his comment was....Wow they sure stuffed this sandwich. The entire bill with a soft drink each came to 24.00 One cannot complain about that price point at when one factors in the cleanliness of the place the friendliness of the staff and the quality of the food Will return should I find myself in the neighborhood once again. read more

Beautiful saloon with an authentic country style reclaimed barn wood interior. All surfaces are very nicely finished. This welcoming place is very clean and well maintained. There is also a restaurant seating area. I stopped in for a late lunch on a Monday and felt very relaxed with modern country music playing and large comfortable bar seating. The lady bartender was very friendly, professional and helpful. Very nice menu. I chose the Cajun Chicken Sandwich, which comes with fries or mashed potatoes for around $10. The chicken was very moist, tender, full of flavor and cooked to perfection. I chose mashed potatoes for my side - these potatoes were about the best I have ever had. The food was obviously higher quality than I would expect from a typical tavern. Domestic beers were on special for only $2 when I was there-OMG. I drove about 40 minutes to check this place out after reading other reviews on yelp and I will definitely do it again. I am very excited about finding this place and I am more than happy to share my experience with others. read more

great, just great. joined my sisters for lunch based on the great reviews on yelp and they proved right on. i had the marbled rye reuben and it was the best i've ever had others had the cheddar soup which was also great. service was top shelf, prices were reasonable, place was clean and enjoyed everything - highly recommend this place and will be back. read more
