The visit was a waste of time and money going through tests with no concrete results. A home kit was recommended over going to a sleep test site, and at the end of the day, I would still have to go to a site. I was the first patient in the office yet he had me wait for him on several occurrences. He told me any information I gave him about my condition would be rendered useless because he would need to run tests to solve my problem. He told me he could save me money by not asking me to get an MRI because I don't need one. Meanwhile Dr. Patel's office took my insurance card and accepted my co-pay but later charged me over $300 for literally looking into my ears and for running a basic auditory test! I am writing this on behalf of my husband who went to see Dr Nilesh Patel a few weeks ago. My husband was complaining about his ear (thinking he had an infection) and I found Dr Nilesh on Google. I booked an appointment for my husband using their user friendly website in no time. It was a breeze and for that, I gave them 5 star. However this is when 5 star becomes 2. My husband came back home asking me if the reviews I read was recent and legit. He told me that Dr Patel was very rushed and was not interested to know the background of his hearing at all. Dr Nilesh did use a metal tool to insert in his ear to extract some dry wax but as soon as he extracted "some" of it (I say some as there is more to this below) he was done. My husband said it was very brief with no advise on follow up. He came back home still complaining about his ear. Today my husband asked for a cotton bud which we hardly ever use as we know it's not good for your ear. But he said he still can feel something in his ear. To my surprise he managed to pull out some more dry hard wax from him ear which honestly, is not pleasant. Photo attached. Our question is "how soon do you get another big hard solid earwax after your ear is properly cleaned by your doctor?" or "is it too soon to be getting hard solid earwax and the only explanation to this is that the doctor didn't clean it properly 2 weeks ago?" In my experience I had an ear vacuuming when my doctor (not Dr Patel) told me I had some earwax build up that blocked my hearing. I experienced this after I went scuba diving and I had water in my ear left. This was 5 years ago and I have no problems with my ear since then and I don't think I need any micro suction at all. My hearing is perfect (touch wood). But my husband's experience with Dr Patel was rather different and the hard earwax that he extracted today is more than enough to justify his feelings when he left Dr Patel's clinic. This is a big red flag hence the 2 stars. Not recommended. read more

Dr. Patel was nice and had a good bedside manner, but my overall experience here was terrible. I ended up paying $600+ for him to stick a light up my nose and give me a diagnosis I could have given myself. The "surgical procedure" was completely unnecessary and was barely covered by insurance. I do not feel this was communicated clearly to me, and staff was extremely unhelpful when I raised the issue post appointment. Update as I went back to DR Patel this year due to sinus issues which are related to allergies. He was very helpful and gave me a great starting regiment to help me over the past month. He ended up giving me a referral to an allergist who agreed with everything Dr Patel did and with these additional skin tests I might be able to figure out my allergy issues now. Thanks again to this staff for being patient with me during the crazy times of COVID and having a very clean and sanitized office. I was at Dr. Patel's office today, together with my girlfriend who had an appointment. Since May she has had issues with her ears, and this was the second time she saw Dr. Patel. During her meeting with the doctor, he was rushed, nonchalant and dismissive without hardly explaining anything. In fact, he was so rushed he didn't even bother to stay in the room to give a full answer to one of my girlfriend's questions. He also interrupted her on multiple occasions. All this was after he let her wait almost thirty minutes past her appointment time. The appointment was over with in five minutes. All he did was take out a little earwax, with no clarification or even educated guessing on what the issue could be. Then charged her $50. We will not go back. I hope this reaches someone in search of a doctor, so that they know not to go to Dr. Patel. read more

I was recommended to Dr. Nilesh Patel from my allergist, and the reviews online said he was the best in New York. That was not my experience at all. Instead of getting to the bottom of what may be causing my nose to swell for allergies or what options I had to help my situation he went straight to talk about surgery. My endoscopy showed a deviated septum, so he proceeded to tell me to come in next time for a surgery consult with him. I said " but do I need surgery"? "Would it help? And he said it could, but also maybe not. Come back if you want to chat about surgery." Doctors only see $$$$ these days. Yeah come in for surgery let's get you in so I can make more money! The staff were very informative and nice and the wait was only 10 mins after I came on time. Dr. Patel himself was immensely helpful and professional and the procedure to clean my ear was phenomenal. I'll start with a positive, Dr. Nilesh Patel was friendly and apologetic. His practice is to overbook because there were 5 other patients waiting for the same appt time. I was on time but he kept me waiting for over a 1/2 hour. When I complained both the receptionist and office person said it was the Dr's fault. His nurse was not friendly and had a non-existent bedside manner. The office at 30 e 40 st. has a tiny and overcrowded waiting area. You could hear the Dr. speaking to patients while waiting. A violation of everyones privacy. Overall the office was unkempt, run-down and dingy. Not indicative of a professional with integrity. His staff does not seem happy. I have been going to Dr. Patel for several years. He has two offices in midtown and I generally go to his 46th Street office as it is extremely convenient for me. He is very knowledgeable and, simply put, really knows what he is talking about. He also takes the time to listen to what I have to say, a trait often lacking in physicians these days. His office is clean and spacious for NYC and I always feel welcome there. The entire staff is friendly and very professional. And getting an appointment, even at the last minute, has never been an issue. I generally visit Dr. Patel because I am not feeling well but I walk out with a smile on my face. That says it all for me. I will not go to any other ENT doctor and I highly recommend Dr. Patel to anyone else looking for one. read more

The doctor is fantastic! Very professional and highly recommend However his staff is a different story I went in for my appointment 15 minutes early. The lady that sits on the far left side. In the front office at the desk was extremely rude and unprofessional. In front of everyone she said you got denied and it's going to cost you $600. She that that in to me loudly in front of other patients, no respect for HIPPA Laws And insisted I had another insurance. I told them I'm 100% sure I don't we go back and forth and she said you have to call them. I ask them have they called them. They said no the just got the denial online. I told them that they have to call. It no way the insurance will approve a recent denial because the patient called to get an approval the doctor office have to call the provider customer service # and see why they have gotten a denial. Mind you this is my second appointment and they knew I was coming in for my second appointment 3 days later. They actually call me to come in to go over my CT scan. ( when they sent me to get a CT scan my information was wrong they had my DOB wrong and my gender) Usually most offices verify insurance eligibility before you come in. And usually when you get a denial you call the insurance company and try to fix it. So I'm on the phone with the insurance company and I told them that they said I have another insurance. The insurance representative said I don't have additional insurance and everything is ok. I let him speak to them and the lady in the far left corner, disagrees with the representative from the insurance company and tells him he is wrong and she is right ( really! You know better then the people you insist that I call??) This is going nowhere fast!! After the representative from the insurance company tell them more then 10 time s to call the provider hotline and the will help them get the approval there The lady setting in the far right corner gets the # from the insurance representative and said she will call. Then she turns to me and says THE WAIT TIME TO HOLD TO SPEAK TO A REPRESENTATIVE @ THE INSURANCE COMPANY SO YOU NEED TO RESCHEDULE. So now I'm being denied service because you don't wanna wait on hold to call the insurance company and I've been there for more then an hour now and was early and now I can't be seen I spoke to the office manager and she said I can be seen and she would call Then I said I can't believe I'm going through this I never have any issues with my insurance for years and no problems with Insurance with all my other doctors. I hope it's nit because I'm the only black paitent here. Then the lady in the far right coner say to the office manager that I called her a racists. I told here calling myself the only black person here is different from actually calling you a racist ( there is a big distinction!!) I finally saw the doctor an hour later. I told the doctor I would like to speak to him on how I was treated by his staff. He said sir let's discuss after your exam. After the exam he ask could we just move past it and I said yes. However I shouldn't have been treated that way at all. Especially after calling the insurance company and finding out that there is absolutely nothing wrong with my insurance. The staff should have followed up with the insurance company and call the provider hotline and confirm the denial is indeed a true denial. And see if they possibly coded it wrong or mad a mistake on there end. Before you go to your appointment verify that the called your insurance company if they tell you, you've gotten a denial. Insist that they call the provider hotline of your insurance and do there professional due diligence read more

Dr. Patel is one of the best doctors I've ever been to. I originally went to him because of my deviated septum, which would cause me trouble breathing through my nose while sleeping, feeling congested often, and getting sick periodically. Doctors I've seen in the past have always suggested Septoplasty surgery. Dr. Patel suggested we do the balloon sinuplasty and bilateral inferior turbinate reduction procedure. The entire procedure took about 15-20 minutes and was painless. It's been one year since I've had the procedure and I've never felt greater. Now I can sleep calmly and breathe through my nose the entire night. I also don't get sick as often as I used to. I'm thankful for Dr. Patel in suggesting this procedure before opting for surgery. They charge you for services they do not perform and then lie to insurance carriers or anyone that investiaged their claim. DO NOT GO to this office, as you will end up in the same boat with high charges for the privilege of sitting with this Dr. for five minutes and paying for services that simply were not performed. There is informaiton online how ENT's are charging for servce as a scam to get money for the higher charge a particular code comes with vs. a basic exam. Unbelievably incompetent staff. I wasted four days calling back and forth to get a prescription filled. Then they decided they could not fill the prescription without me seeing the doctor again (ridiculous rule since I don't need to see the doctor), but failed to tell me this. I wasted a week without the medication that I could easily have gotten somewhere else. They were rude on the phone and completely unhelpful. For many many many years I suspected I had a deviated septum, which was causing problems for my sinuses and causing me to have trouble breathing. After reading all the great reviews I thought this doctor will find a solution for my condition- it was not the case. He seems very bored and distant. I feel he did not listen to my concerns, he did not care how long I been sick (7months). I provided him all documents and test results from my previous doctor and still he wanted me to spend 6 more months miserable and the worst part I feel he did not want to help me and moved me to see another doctor. I called his office for an emergency appointment and I was given an immediate appointment. He is a really nice doctor. He waited for me to come to his office after hours. Dr Patel is an excellent ENT doctor. I've been suffering from respiratory allergies, sinus congestion and headaches since I moved to NYC last year. Dr. Patel recommended Bilateral Inferior Turbinate Reduction procedure as a treatment that might help in decreasing the congestion. The procedure was quite short and painless. His effort to remember his patients and greet them are what sets him apart from the rest. I always ask questions and Dr. Patel is always glad to answer all of them. I had a balloon sinuplasty and bilateral inferior turbinate reduction procedure done about 6 months ago. This was to address the fact that I always had to breathe with my mouth open/always felt stuffed up. It was especially annoying when I would lay down. I was ready to go through with a more intensive surgery where I would be knocked out but Dr. Patel wanted to try these procedures first. So thankful that he wasn't quick to jump to surgery. For these procedures I was awake the whole thing and recovery was easy. Today, not only can I breathe with my mouth closed, I also sleep much better. Before this, I also would get motion sickness VERY easily. It was suspected to be unrelated but ever since then, I have not had one issue with motion sickness. I also want to note that I tend to get very anxious and faint around doctors/medical type things. I had one of these spells during the procedure - nothing to do with the procedure, it was my own anxiety that I let amp up. Dr. Patel was incredibly helpful and sensitive to my condition. He helped to distract me until the procedure was over. read more

I spent about 10 minutes with the doctor for a consultation. During the consultation, Dr. Patel seemed to be in a rush and was visibly annoyed at my follow-up questions. I paid my stipulated co-payment and left the office. Later on when I received the invoice, it turned out that apart from charging me for the consultation, the doctor had also charged me separately for using his endoscope, which typically is supposed to be used in standard ENT consultations. They offered me a discount, but the billing person maintained that the use of an endoscope is a separate procedure. However, I was never informed before, during or after the office visit that a billable procedure is going to be performed or had been performed, despite the fact that informing the patients of what procedures are going to be performed is required under the PPACA. This is a classic example of what's wrong with some of our doctors and the healthcare system in general. read more

Dr Patel was one of the only in-network doctors available to see me at the last minute but I will never be returning. It would have been cheaper to see a Dr at the CityMD. Dr Patel charged me $250 for an office visit and $385 for a nasal endoscopy. He should have just taken a culture to see if I have an infection! What a ripoff! read more

I have been going to Dr. Patel for about eight and a half years now. I found him via a friends high recommendation. I had always suffered from sinus issues. Allergy season was the worst as everything would just get caught in my sinuses and cause so much havoc! I couldn't breathe and they would always turn into infections that were so painful. One day Dr. Patel suggested that I think about doing a Turbinate Reduction - of course I immediately google it and where it seemed a bit intimidating I trusted Dr. Patel and his advice. So in May 2014 I went to his beautiful office at 20 East 46th Street for the procedure. I was nervous but again I trusted in Dr. Patel and his results. About a week after I noticed tremendous changes! I was no longer suffering from not being able to breath and swollen sinuses! I went a whole allergy season without issue and NO SINUSITIS- which before was at least a few times a month! Here I am about two and a half years later and it is still just as wonderful! I would highly recommend this procedure to anyone that has my issues. I am writing this because Dr. Patel and his staff are wonderful, truly care and produce results. They are lasting! STAY AWAY!!! I came to Dr. Patel for a first time consultation and was told that he was "just going to look into my nose and throat" which he did with a microscope. I assumed this was a normal examination and not anything out of the ordinary. Two months later I got a bill from them stating I had "surgery" done. I called their billing department a few times and they would not do a thing. I have never had a doctor do any services to me that may not be covered by insurance without giving me the costs beforehand so it is absurd that this establishment is tricking clients this way and even more absurd that they do not take ownership of their mistakes. Aside from this I did not even get any answers from Dr. Patel and did not receive any follow up after I had reached out to him after my appointment. read more

His staff is NOT pleasant. They're extremely rude, but I guess doctors find staff that match their personality. Dr. Nilesh is condescending, doesn't spend very much time explaining or listening. He doesn't give you the long-term picture. Doesn't care about explaining side effects, risks, known complications, cost-benefit analyses for doing procedures. There's no doctor-patient relationship with this Dr. or his staff. It's a volume business. The only reason people go is because he's got immediate openings. The office itself looks like it could use some new light bulbs, and more modern equipment. read more

My experience with this doctor was awful. I went to visit for discomfort in my nose and throat, thinking it could be a sinus infection. I filled out the questionnaire, which asked if I had any allergies to medications - I filled in very legibly, "PENICILLIN". He and his staff obviously don't read these questions, because they prescribed me Amoxicillin which is in the same family of drugs as Penicillin - not knowing this at the time, I took the medication as prescribed. When I developed a rash, and had trouble breathing, I looked up the medication and realized their mistake. I called them and they got very defensive, saying that I should have said something about it when they gave it to me, and that it was my fault not theirs, basically. I was pretty horrified at their reaction...not to mention, I went to see a different doctor because I still had not taken all of the antibiotic, and was still feeling discomfort. The doctor said it was sinus pressure, and did not think I had a sinus infection in the first place. I am never going to see Dr. Nilesh Patel again, and suggest nobody else does either.
