I have been seeing Dagmar for four years now, ever since she worked in a small room at a salon…read more(that's now closed). Since then, she has had 4 different locations and I am still loyal to her as ever. I cannot say anything negative about this amazing woman. She is an incredible esthetician with lots of knowledge and skills. I have gotten facials since I was 14 and she is the best esthetician I have had the pleasure of meeting. When I first saw her, I had moderate cystic-like acne and active acne with multiple breakouts per month. Just after few months of treatment (1-2x a month facials), my acne was less severe, scars were less noticeable, and I started breaking out less. Fast forward 2 years, I started getting compliments on my complexion from strangers. Now, I break out only when I eat certain foods (milk chocolate, french fries, pizza) or around my period. So ever since then, I have been on her appointment book once a month for the past 4 years. Wow. That's crazy but I am so thankful that I have found Dagmar! Her prices are very fair as well. She is also known for eyelash extensions, reiki (energy healing - has done a lot of incredible work on me!), and electrolysis. She is always booked out weeks so make sure you make an appointment right after you're finished with your session. Not only is she an incredible esthetician but she is also an AMAZING person; I can't describe it, you have to meet her and see for yourself. She has a HUGE heart and is such an empathetic, sympathetic, compassionate, understanding, wholesome person. She pretty much knows my whole life story lol so she is like my family. Last Christmas I even gave her a gift - that's how much she means to me! I've even seen her teenage son grow like 6+ inches within the past few years because I literally have been seeing her every month for the past 4 years (wasn't kidding about this!). I can honestly say that Dagmar is definitely an important person in my life and I am so glad that I have met her - she has made a positive influence in my life both aesthetically and spiritually. Thank you Dagmar, love you!

I am a female in my early 20s and have had a decade-long problem with coarse hair growing all along…read moremy cheeks, jaw and neck because of my heritage. I have had around 50 total hours of electrolysis on those areas; which have been worked on by a handful of electrologists all along Puget Sound. When I saw my other electrologists, I would always leave those appointments with super red, inflamed, sometimes burned, blistered, scabbed over skin. Not to mention, the treatments themselves were painful because insertion of the needle was done incorrectly. My skincare routine following those appointments consisted of Neosporin all over my face, everyday, for upwards of a week until the treated areas healed. Unsightly to say the least. Dagmar is undoubtedly the best. The fact that I feel no pain during treatment and very mild redness afterwards speaks for itself. Her aesthetics background further validates why I feel so comfortable getting treated by her. After 3+ months of treatment, still can't believe how happy my skin is during/after electrolysis at Melange Spa. If you are looking for an electrologist, take my word for it and go see Dagmar. She is incredibly knowledgeable about a wide range of beauty treatments - and she kindly lets me pick her brain about it all! Not to mention her beautifully decorated, relaxing studio. She is so warm, friendly, and makes me feel beautiful every time I leave. You won't get this kind of treatment anywhere else in the PNW.

I moved up to Bellingham recently and took considerable time to find a salon that had good reviews…read moreand find a beautician that was a colorist with at least 10 years experience. I don't know that many people in the area yet, so I went primarily on reviews. I made an appointment with Emilly Thompson with Grotto Hair Salon. My appointment started at 12:45pm and it went until 6:15pm. First of all, I have NEVER sat in a chair for 5 1/2 hours getting my hair fully foiled/highlighted and cut! Normally that is a 3 hour appointment. I had a sinking feeling that she was having difficulty getting my color right. Before you go into the salon, they give you an opportunity to share pictures of what you want and to write out what you are looking for at the appointment. I actually loved that. It tells me they will do their homework before you go in, make sure they have the right products on hand and have a good idea of what you want. If Emilly didn't think she could do what I was asking, she could have told me instead of wasting my time. The outcome of what I received after 5.5 hours in the chair was nothing close to what I was asking for - I showed her pictures again of what I wanted before we even started. She gave me a platinum blond, fully blended. Not remotely close to what I was asking for. I attached a picture of what I wanted to this review along with what I received the first and second time. I was exhausted after all that time and was late for a meeting. Paid my $250 plus a tip and left. I sent a message to the owner the next day and Emilly reached back out and she was able to get me in a day later. My appointment started at 6pm and ended at 9pm. Another 3 hours to correct my hair and it still wasn't right or even close to being right. First of all, you don't tell you client right off the bat that you think their hair looks gorgeous when you're in there to get it corrected. This is not what I wanted. You also don't tell you client that if "I had more time, I could have had better products available" for the second appointment. Unprofessional and clear she didn't know what she was doing. My head was back in the washbowl for almost an hour while she tried different toners to get the color right. Unbelievable. At the end of the appointment she literally had nothing to say to me. I told her this still wasn't what I asked for and disarmingly I asked her what she thought and she really had nothing to say. My hair is brassy blonde and I just dropped a lot of money on almost 9 hours of the result I received. So incredibly disappointing. I honestly don't like writing negative reviews but decided people need to be warned. I wrote the owner (Karly) two emails sharing my experience and never heard back from her. Again, how unprofessional and non customer oriented. If anything, she should have called me and asked me what she could do to make it right. I don't believe I'm super fussy about things - definitely a type B personality and go with the flow...but when you're spending $250 on highlight and cut, you should be getting a pretty darn good result. I WOULD NOT recommend The Grotto hair studio in Fairhaven. There may be other good stylists in there but how the owner handled my situation is unacceptable in my book. All in all, it's just such a bummer and very disappointing.

They just had me look around and see if I could find a wig I liked. There weren't many in the style or color I was looking for, but went there to get ideas about colors for different brands (like Envy) since it's really hard to pick a color on line. I'm not certain they understood what I was doing. I do give them credit for letting me spend a lot of time there looking at the different colors of wigs they had in stock, but was disappointed that they weren't as helpful as I expected. My first experience buying a wig was so different. I had to wear a wig cap for sanitary reasons and Bunny at Fabulous You Wigs picked out wigs she thought would look good on me. This store didn't make me wear a wig cap at all, so not sure why they don't except returns. They also weren't very helpful in picking out a wig. I was a very challenging customer because I expected more help picking out a wig or at least a good color for my complexion. My feeling was that they couldn't wait for me to leave. I did end up buying a wig at a really good price, but I don't think I'll go back.

So I asked her what kind of hair gel they had and it was well these brands have some I told her I was looking for something more flexible with a stronghold and she had to look at the products to see what it did and what was strength it was. I was not happy at all, there is very little product in the store it's mainly just wigs and nothing more. It looks like when you walk in there its looks run down a bit . She had no clue what the products actually did and how it would work out as she was like well this smells nice and had to ask someone else about the product and they said I have no clue but tons of people buy it. It was not professional. Next time I'm just going to Utla or taking the long drive to my cousin who cuts hair for a living and knows more about hair gel and products also everything is way too expensive there. I can get the same hair gel at Walmart for $16
