People are going to see this and think I was paid, considering the sea of 1 star reviews. I recently signed up for Nine9. I was skeptical honestly given the reviews. I was even more skeptical because I currently only hold 1 single acting roll. I was given a speaking role on an episode of Pause: With Sam Jay on HBO, and I was able to land that roll for free, without needing any sort of subscription. But curiosity got the best of me, and I signed up anyway. IMMEDIATELY I was getting emails with roles I could apply for. You're given a profile page that allows you to update all your interests, upload all your reels, all your headshots etc.. I was getting multiple emails a day, FULL of roles to apply for. Honestly the setup was so in depth, I decided I wasn't ready for this - as I didn't have any professional pictures or head shots. On top of that, I unfortunately lost my job about a week after I signed up, and that sign on fee believe it or not, really would have come in handy. I emailed customer service and explained the situation, and without question they refunded me. It was such a relief, and it was so helpful. I'm honestly going to go back in a month or so and sign up again. So the reason for the 4 stars - there is SOMEWHAT some baiting in their delivery. A lot of big name drops like Stranger Things and Scream 7. Though I'm sure those exists and come up, do not expect a mailbox full of Netflix, HBO, and Disney tryouts. It seems like at Nine9 you really will get out of it what you put into it. Stack that reel, post pictures in different outfits, different situations, different genres. The more you work your subscription the better work you'll get. read more

These guy's scream scam. I have gotten a text every day for the past 45 days along the lines that they either are looking for talent in one of their open calls or that projects like the Hunger Games, Outer Banks & Netflix are casting. I've asked if they are a casting director, talent agency or casting platform, and they state that they connect actors to projects as opposed to being one of the three options that are possible for the entertainment industry. If they were casting for those projects, then they would not be blowing-up my text messages. I like to think I'm an awesome actor, but no one is worth that sort of trouble, which means they are desperate for volume, which in turn means that their model is based on sales. They will ask for money up front: scam. They will offer you either acting / modeling lessons or head shots at a price: scam. They will use sale tactics: scam. Organizations like Nine9 prey on unsuspecting, naive people with offers that are too good to be true. Parents of aspiring actors are great targets for this sort of con. SCAM. Legitimate agencies do not ask for money upfront. They have enough capitol to invest in their talent and they get paid back via commission. Example, they book you a commercial gig and you get paid $2000. The company takes a % of that to recoup, you get paid the difference. A legitimate agency will do this until they get their initial investment back. Once that's done, then you can negotiate a set recurring % of your future earnings so the company makes profit. Sounded to good to be true and that was confirmed at the end of the call when she casually mentioned that in order to create a digital profile it would be $99 and $39.99 per month to keep it active. I'm sure times have changed over the years, but I remember going to college in LA and signing up to be an extra back then. It was free to sign up and did not cost anything monthly. I did find their prices on the higher end, but I do see that there are people who have had successful bookings through them. Because I found the way they recruited me to a one hour zoom meeting deceptive, they are not someone I would want to move forward with. Complete SCAM! They had an add in Instagram that looked like a legitimate casting call for Traitors. I filled it out and they emailed and texted and said I was invited to the open zoom call. I turned down work and lost money for the day of the audition because I didn't want to miss it. They zoom started out with the woman saying "Let me tell you about myself..." then went on for 10 minutes about herself. I thought that's weird- auditions don't usually start out like that. Then she say for the low price of $99 to join and $39 a month you can be part of her talent pool. Of course there was a link that only lasted while you were on the zoom, and it was a special link just for you and not for your friends or family. I was SO angry that I literally lost money on a job and planned my day around the "audition." I'm mad at myself for falling for the scam, but glad I know better than to pay money for services that you should be getting for free from a legitimate casting company. Came across an Instragram posting from Nine 9, needing extras for the upcoming Chicago Fire filming. A Zoom meeting was set up for all interested folks. Crystal spoke to us, stated she was running late and needed to swiftly move along. However, I noticed, everything Crystal mentioned was just superficial. It was vague information regarding the industry in general. Regarding any of us attendees, there was nothing concrete. Crystal did mention of about a half dozen movies seeking upcoming casting calls. Any of this information is available on the internet. Again, nothing concentrated toward on any of us or the Chicago Fire casting call. Crystal mentioned still running late and wanted to plow through the meeting. (Not allowing any of us attendees a chance for questions). At the end, she posted a link for us to provide our contact information and mentioned and credit card number. Crystal mention if we don't jump on this opportunity now, it will close to us and will be open up to the next person in line. Cost was $99 to sign up and $39 per month to stay active. I was bored today, decided to play around with it. I called them out multiple times on text, but they insisted they were legit and weren't out for money. I was scheduled for a 3 pm Zoom. I went on. A typical fake Hollywood lady with massively overfilled, gross lips popped on. Apparently, there were about 10 others who were "selected" just like me! Hahaha! Really? Huh. All b/c we were dumb enough to fill out the response on IG. I was unable to see the other "contestants", turn my camera on, or speak. Only Kim could. I messaged her and told her this was a scam and asked her why I couldn't see anyone else. She dropped me immediately. I was unable to rejoin. I hope people are smart enough to read up on this stupid company. What a joke. It was fun playing around with them, but not really. I joined to see how well they con people into paying for this scam of a dream. As someone with some knowledge of the industry through friends and acquaintances I understand that scams are unfortunately very common within the modelling/acting roles. So like most I clicked the FB link to request more info. I have a son who was involved with an agent and went to a few casting calls. They never asked for $$ up front in fact the only thing they asked for was a representation contract and some headshots and asked that we keep them updated when we could or if anything big changed looks wise. He did not get any gigs unfortunately and he got disappointed and we moved on. We actually moved across the country and saw this, I figured I would look into it. They started blowing up my phone daily 2-3 times a day asking me to do a virtual call with 2-3 time slots perday (quite persistently, dropping production names a couple that were already wrapped despite them advertising that the casting directors were in demand of faces/talent). After a while I agreed to a call, waited for 25 minutes past the start time no one logged in. I text them back and they told me to log in at a different time or pick a different day. No explanation, no recourse of any kind just come back some other time. Like a fool I did. The next time I did the call, the lady goes right into name dropping all the agencies they cast for and after about 25 minutes of pontificating, the rub comes in. They send a link to create a digital profile complete with your measurements a way to upload pictures and so on but to create the profile it will cost $99 plus 39.95 per month to create the file for them to allegedly send to casting directors. I have made a few calls (mainly to the agency and agent, that represented my son) they all say that creating a profile on about 8-10 websites for side work as voice overs and snippet gigs are free they gave me a list of websites. They also said that agencies that charge to be a part of are typically a scam, they typically do not represent anyone professionally and they may work on talent development by selling classes, like improv, comedic timing, drama and so on. They said if you are looking for an agent to get you casting calls look for those agencies directly or find open calls in your area through various boards including the gig sites. Yes they want you to pay. Yes it is a membership and yes they say they help you get auditions. Other than that, I didn't get any more information. While I opted not to participate personally, I would urge any and everyone to do your due diligence, ask questions and if it doesn't feel right it might not be right. read more
