Catching up with my friend on Fremont, I knew karaoke had to be part of the night -- and I've always heard great things about Ninja Karaoke from my friends at Zappos. So we decided to check it out! There's security at the entrance to check IDs, and the host was gracious and welcoming. The lounge area was hosting a private party, but luckily they were able to get us into a private room. Even though all the rooms were fully booked, we managed to snag one for an hour -- perfect for a quick karaoke fix. (Pro tip: book ahead if you can!) The rooms were clean, nicely decorated, and surprisingly spacious. The sound system was solid, and the song selection was spot-on -- everything from classics to current hits. Service was friendly across the board -- even security was easy to chat with, which added to the relaxed, fun vibe. Every first Fridays, there's a dance event which was amazing! Good music and amazing people. On other days it's also a cool spot to grab a drink and lounge or get a room and go at it and become the pop star you always knew you were! Service was alright it might be because it was a busy day. I waited 10 minutes to get a room because nobody was manning the front desk. I waited ten minutes to check out. Can't even call anyone because you could see that the phone is sitting on the desk where no one is. No food. Drinks and hookah only. Hookah was weak. Soundproofing was not good as I could hear next door's Taylor Swift rendition. I had to turn up the volume in our room to drown it out. Even a simple soda was weak in flavor. Likely doesn't test and correct their soda guns. Sketchy location. Strengths: The playlists for songs was a nice touch. Good sound systems. Friendly security. Overall: we came here because they offered hookah and karaoke. Weak hookah flavors. No food. Weak sound suppression. We ended up just going to a hookah bar after one hour. I came here to attend an event. I was buying a drink at the bar when a sweet, hardworking female bartender was working by herself and tending to a lot fo customers. When the owner, Steve, came behind the bar, he yelled out, "whoever thinks that this bartender is doing a good job, put up your middle finger!" I bought a beer from Steve, said Hello to him, because I knew him from before he opened this business. I didn't get the feel of him being "nice", in which some of these reviews stated. He charged me $6 for a beer. I came back & bought the same beer, & was charged $9. Other than that, this is a great venue, thanks to Jon Taffer. I like that theres an outdoor patio & clean restrooms. We've met some new friends who love to start their nights out, "destroying their voices" at karaoke. I'm not a huge karaoke fan (because my singing sounds like two cats fighting) but we decided to give it a try. Coming into Ninja Karaoke (on the first Friday of the month btw), I was a bit skeptical. You have to ring a doorbell and wait for someone to come open it. Luckily for us, this person happened to be right at the door when we walked up to it. He asked to see our IDs and told us we needed a wristband, weird but I got why after entering. There was another couple behind us who I think he knew and who were very pushy to get in front of us. My first thought was "ugh, typical downtown behavior letting your friends go first," but to my shock he firmly told them that he was taking care of us first and asked them to step back. This impressed me and made me feel like they cared about also making us long time customers. The place itself is fairly large with a few private rooms and one large area in the back that includes the backyard courtyard. I love the mix of public and private karaoke. We got room number 3 which is anime themed. Super cute. The iPad used to queue the songs was easy to use and the volume controls were also fairly intuitive. Great selection of songs and great atmosphere. I'd definitely come back in, First Friday or not. read more

Went for a farewell party and had a great time. We were a party of 15 and the room was very accommodating. Lots of seats for everyone. The song options was great and the system was easy to use. They allowed us to stay an extra hour with no problem and we even went over a couple of minutes singing our last song End Of The Road. The attendant ended up spilling soda when he was bringing another bottle for the room and the floor was sticky. That is my only complaint. They did try to get it up but it didn't work. Being able to sing in front of a live audience is cool and all, but it's special when it's with your friends and you're able to get shyer ones out there to sing along and have fun. Rooms are charged by the hour and not by head, so the more that come, the cheaper it'll be for everyone. The song selection here is fantastic! Everything is done through an iPad so it makes it really easy to find songs and not just ones in English. The staff were were kind to show us how to use the machine, control the sounds system, and operate the mics. We stayed for 3 hours into the night and had a blast. With our group of 8 and about 6-7 rounds of soju, it came out to about $35 a person. Not bad for a truly fun night of singing, laughter, and good company. read more

Located in the arts district this place can definitely be a hidden gem for you & your friends. We were celebrating my friends birthday here & we were able to fit about 30 people in the room. There was plenty of seating and lots of room outside if you needed some air. I noticed that there was also a patio area with a food truck back there. I didn't go out there but it also looked very fun. The drinks can range $10-$14. The service at the bar was alright they were a little busy and one of the girls looked like she was new. They also had an open mic at the bar area with a little stage if you wanted to show off your singing skills. There were a couple of booths to seat inside as well. I think this place is definitely a hidden gem in the heart of the arts district. read more

Possible Fraud alert: I would like to be fair and say how our time there was enjoyable. Our room was clean, the machines worked well and the staff was nice. All was good until I got the check and they added two different fees. Neither of which are listed anywhere. They are not listed on the terms and agreement when signing up, they are not listed on the menu. They add an automatic 18% gratuity to the bill and an additional credit card fee. Now, for renting a room for 2 hours without service, being charged an extra 18% is ridiculous. When I called and asked about if this is posted they said "no it's only posted on the bottom of the receipt" which is insane. So the only place it is posted is after you pay? Needless to say after 30 minutes of being on the phone, I was Informed they would refund me. I'm actually sad, cause I would have been back. I enjoyed my time there but the sour taste of what felt like a potential scam really has turned me off from a possible second visit. read more

We actually had our company party at this spot in December. We had deliberated over a few spots, but the event staff was very accommodating and made it a hard offer to pass up. We had a room rented out for approximately 15 of us and we fit comfortably. We were able to bring in our own catering and the bosses allowed us to have open bar for a set dollar amount...that was easily gone after a couple of hours. Our timed rental was for 3 hours, but they let us stay for an extra 45 minutes due to the fun and shenanigans we were getting into. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the staff and they checked our ids and gave us wristbands. Since we were in the Arts District and it was a private event, I understand that procedure. We had to ring the bell outside for admittance. And there were only a few rooms at the spot, so we chilled at the bar prior to getting into our private room The backbar was pretty well adorned and we were never really at a disadvantage for a choice of drinks. The bartender was quite attentive, and even hand delivered my boss's id to the office since it was forgotten in the shuffle of the night's events. When it came to the room, they had a great setup and the bar also allowed us to outfit the crew with some tambourines (aside from the 2 microphones we got upon arrival). Some of the crew smokes cigarettes, so our room was adjacent to the patio, which was pretty convenient. The bathrooms were also pretty tidy. I think the only issue we had was that we couldn't hold the room rental for longer. Based on the fun time, I'm sure to return, since I've heard they throw down around First Friday in this area and it's also probably a lot of fun when the weather is warmer. This place is amazing. We held my sister 40th and daughters 12th birthday here with family and friends and were not disappointed. Our server was top-notch and the owners were very welcoming. The food was delicious and very well priced. The VIP karaoke room was very spacious and decorated well with Japanese art. Went in with my friend for her to take a look before getting on a plane. One person in the store, 2 associates. The Japanese one was talking to what seemed to be a friend ir a very regular customer. Tried to get the attention of the other girl, and when I did i was directed to the other girl... Ok. She come over to help my friend and was pretty much clueless. Time was of the essence, but this associate was seemingly not wanting to do her job, we needed the box with the toy, but she acted like shw didnt want to go look for it cause it would take too long and didnt want to try. Ok, so we tried to work it out that if could just pick it up later and mail it to my friend since im local. She decides, after a few mins of internally contemplating looking, to go look, and prompty returns with the wrong box, it catches my friends eye immediately and she voices her concern while the associate, either doesn't hear her, or just ignores the protest. The other girl finally comes and finds the box in a few seconds of checking the cabinet adjacent to the display. Very unknowledgable associate, poor customer service skills. As far as toy selection my friend seemed to be impressed with all the toys, but extremely disturbed by the seemingly clueless associate. Great spot in a part of town that you wouldn't expect to find a great spot. They have a lot of specialty nights, including comedy, poetry, games, karaoke. My favorite cocktail was the Kamakazee. It's also a good place if you're into hard-to-find Japanese whisky such as Nikka. Update: our locked bikes were stolen outside the bar. Obviously, not the bar's fault. No feminine hygiene products or food (beside potato chips), but full bar! Overall good experience. First time not at an Asian karaoke place and thought it was great. You must go to this place First Fridays!!! It's the After Party with the perfect vibe. Inside is a karaoke stage with an awesome singer belting out tunes between patrons' karaoke picks. This is also the place to get your drinks . Just beware of this $20 "fish bowl" drink. It's so delicious and must have allll the alcohol in it. Any time a drink comes with 2 straws, you might want to share it. Reminds me of the easy drinkability of a Long Island Iced Tea, but tastes even better! Outside you find a canopy with dance floor and a cool DJ blasting dance music. There's also a food truck (on the premises) with a limited menu serving up tacos. Pro tip for gentlemen...buy a girl a taco instead of a drink. You're sure to get her phone digits. First Fridays features a dance competition starting at 11:30 pm.
