I recently was a customer at yardbird this past Sunday to meet with some family in town. The restaurant ambience is upscale but not intimidating at all, it was entirely beautiful. I honestly did not think I was gonna love their food as much as I did because I'm not keen on this style of American food. Our server recommended their chicken that's pressure cooked for hours before they fry it. I can absolutely tell that it was good quality chicken. As someone who cooks chicken regularly, I see the thoroughness in their delivery. My mother and I also split the crème brûlée pancakes, pure divinity. Although the food was delicious, what filled me with delight was the service. As someone who has been a server on the strip for sometime, it's so refreshing to see genuine hospitality unfold the way it did. The expected level of restaurant unfortunately does not guarantee quality service. Just because a restaurant is fine dining does not mean the server is fine dining material. My party and I stopped here for a late lunch and it was the perfect place for sharing the large portioned dishes. While there were a lot of good choices on the menu we had to go with the jambalaya and chicken & waffles. To balance it out we also got the short ribs and mashed potatoes. The chicken and waffles were delicious, definitely that southern comfort food and the jambalaya was a little creamy for me but otherwise good. Love the vibe of Yardbird, its so country and fun. There's big open windows/walls inside so you can see inside the casino hotel area. There's so much space in there, and also has a bar with additional seating. Lots of space for big groups too, which is a plus. It was very crowded with so many people having a good time with their drinks and food. Our server was good, we didn't see her very much though but when she did help us she was very nice. We only ordered a couple of items because we were sharing. The chicken and waffles were so yummy, the chicken was crispy and juicy and the waffles were crunchy outside and soft inside. I was not a fan of the bourbon syrup on the table, the bourbon flavor was strong! I probably could have asked for plain but the waffles really didn't even need anything added. The deviled eggs were previously smooth and velvety. This time the deviled eggs were thick and chalky. Very disappointing, especially with how expensive they are. My boyfriend usually loves the chicken. It was not crispy or flavorful as it once was. Also, I didn't expect my short rib to be so sweet. We had okra as a side and that was the best part of the entire meal. We learned the original owners sold the franchise and they are running the restaurant into the ground. We ordered the Nashville Hot and the Yardbird Tenders. Our server suggested making the Yardbird Tenders spicy, and my husband agreed. He has a very high tolerance for spicy food, so we weren't expecting it to be an issue. Unfortunately, whoever prepared them in the kitchen went way overboard with the spice. They were so overwhelmingly hot that it wasn't an enjoyable eating experience, and my husband ultimately couldn't finish them. There's a difference between something being pleasantly spicy and the heat completely overpowering the food, and this definitely fell into the latter category. Overall, the food simply wasn't memorable enough for us to understand the level of hype surrounding the restaurant. I know Yardbird has a loyal following, so this may have just been an off experience or simply not the right restaurant for us. Dining area is dark and very loud,, primarily because it's usually busy both inside and out. The location in restaurant row in the venetian becomes a bustling place at night, even a weekday night. Service here is top notch, can't think of anything I would ask them to improve on. The diet coke we ordered came in a small 8oz glass bottle, nice!!! We started with some deviled eggs - maybe the best I've ever had, just tons of flavor and they didn't have to do it with a bunch of junk piled on top. Tangy mustard flavor it seemed, but they were excellent. We also tried the skillet cornbread. It had a generous pat of butter on top and came out in a small iron skillet on a cutting board. Presentation was great but the cornbread missed me a little, I'm just not a fan of whole chunks of corn in my cornbread - just a personal preference, others at the table said it was good. Chicken and waffles is the star of the show here folks. Actually any of the fried chicken dishes - you can't go wrong. It is perfectly crispy on the outside and very tender chicken meat. It is fall apart tender without being dried out. They even offer both - the fried chicken AND the waffles - in a gluten free variation. The waffles were clearly different looking and perhaps not quite as tasty, but the gluten free chicken was every bit delicious as the regular. The plate is also served with "chilled spiced watermelon" which were chunks of watermelon that tasted amazing. This could even be a dessert, but it was a nice refreshing "side". We also tried several of the sides: Collard greens - these were a miss for me, not much flavor going on even though they did have some shredded chicken in there, Plenty meat to be satisfying, but not much flavor there. I like my greens with a little kick of vinegar. They brought some house hot sauce out for the chicken dishes - if you get the collards I recommend using this and it elevates the collards a great deal. I was quite happy with them after adding the hot sauce. Crispy Brussel Sprouts - These come with a "spiced honey". I loved the flavor. I've been to this Yardbird location once before a few years ago and I thought it was just okay. It definitely wasn't bad, but not outstanding either. Let me tell you, that all changed with this trip. My husband and I sat at the bar and had the BEST time. Both the food and service were outstanding! I wish I could remember our bartender's name because he definitely deserves a shout out. Our server Brandon was very service oriented and checked on us enough to make sure everything was OK. As the courses arrived each one kept outdoing the last with all the food being excellent. We popped in for a lunch this latest trip and were not as impressed with the food like we had been before. Service was fantastic and friendly, no complaints there. We did the Jalapeno Jam deviled eggs to start which were really good. It was our meal - wedge salad with chicken along with a chicken/gravy brunch sandwich which were lacking in any flavor in terms of the chicken. Chicken was jut blah. Interesting given their menu is based all around their fried chicken. The gravy was meh, along with a very hard potato type side and the biscuit was very dry. Thankfully, they were still able to seat us in about 10 minutes, which I really appreciated given that it was pretty lively when we arrived. On the food side, we ordered the creamy jambalaya pasta, the Big Easy blackened shrimp & grits, and the skillet cornbread. Everything was absolutely delicious, but the skillet cornbread stole the show -- studded with jalapeños yet still sweet, it struck a perfect balance. Our waiter, unfortunately, was pretty scatterbrained -- he forgot to bring us things, added extra items to our order that we didn't ask for, and messed up our checks multiple times. It was a bit frustrating in the moment, but didn't take away from how good the food and drinks were. Don't go there hungry because you will want everything. The menu is not big but good. Appetizers were good. For my entree I got the chicken and egg sandwich. We had dinner at Yardbird on our first trip to Vegas, and despite a pretty frustrating start, Lawrence completely turned the experience around for us. Our friends had been hyping up the bourbon glazed short ribs, so we were disappointed to find out they were sold out. We decided on the smoked brisket dip instead, only to find out that was sold out too. Then our food ended up taking quite a while, so at that point we were honestly considering leaving. Lawrence, aka the "Beautiful Chocolate Man" , could tell we were frustrated and handled the situation incredibly well. He was attentive, accommodating, funny, and genuinely seemed to care about making sure we still had a great experience. He brought us an appetizer while we waited, which ended up being amazing, and kept checking in on us throughout the night. What could have easily been a disappointing dinner ended up being one of the most memorable meals of our trip because of him. Truly some of the best service we received anywhere in Vegas. One of the female managers also came by to apologize, but unfortunately only addressed the two older members of our group and completely overlooked the other two of us, even though we were all there for the short ribs and experiencing the same frustrations. I actually had to point it out before she acknowledged and apologized to us as well. Her response felt more like "sorry, it's a popular dish and everyone was ordering it" rather than really trying to help with the situation, which was a little disappointing. Derick was exceptionally friendly and welcoming when he came by later. He thanked us for our patience, took the time to talk with us, and even shared a little about his background. He told us several times that he was going to bring us his business card with "short ribs" written on it so that we could get them for free the next time we came in, which we thought was an incredibly kind gesture. Unfortunately, he left to grab the cards and never came back, so after waiting a bit we ultimately decided to leave. Still, we really appreciated how friendly and personable he was with us. Once the food came out, it was absolutely worth the wait. The portions are huge, the drinks were great, the ambiance was great, and everything we had was delicious. Definitely recommend the chicken and waffles and deviled eggs! We'll absolutely be back, hopefully when the short ribs are available, but more importantly, we'll be asking for Lawrence. Southern comfort food is not a cuisine that I eat often, so it was nice to check out Yardbird. Through their website, I was able to easily make a reservation. When I arrived, I was seated fairly quickly, within about 5 minutes. I ordered 2 main dishes and 1 side dish to share with my partner. This was more than enough food for the both of us. We couldn't finish everything because of the big portions. Crispy Fingerling Potatoes seasoned with pecorino, rosemary, and chives - these were buttery and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. A nice sharing dish. Lemon Basil Rigatoni cooked with roasted garlic cashew cream and market vegetables - creamy and savory. The lemon added a nice touch of acidity. This dish is lighter to eat than many other pasta dishes. Creamy Jambalaya Pasta with cajun cream sauce, andouille sausage, peppers, grilled chicken, and shrimp - tasted very rich because of the sauce. This dish had a mild kick of spice. I liked the smoky flavor from the sausage. For me, the biggest drawback about this restaurant is how loud it was inside as well as the lack of service. My partner and I had a difficult time hearing each other from across the table. Additionally, the staff were not attentive to us at all. This place is located in Grand Canal Shoppes in the heart of Vegas. There is a full bar with seating and a decent-sized dining area. The staff there was very friendly, attentive and helpful. I liked that the bartender told me the gratuity was already added to my bill before giving it to me, so I did not add another full gratuity (which I have done before by accident). This restaurant serves some Cajun fare, including steak, fried chicken, ribs, salmon, jambalaya, and brisket. They also offer savory cocktails. I ordered Lewellyn's Fine Fried Chicken and got a Blackberry Bourbon Lemonade to wash it down. My food was ready really fast. It was hot, fresh, tasty, and delicious. My drink was really good too. We made a 12 pm lunch but had to push it out a bit and over the phone they were more than accommodating. As expected though, full of customers and people walking by, it's the center of all the attention inside the The Venetian Las Vegas Hotel. Food: Arrived pretty quick, was impressed with the presentation and how the staff explained each dish. -- Crispy Fingerling Potatoes ($15) -- Presented in a pot, this dish consist of Pecorino, Rosemary, and Chives. The potatoes were bite size, and a decent appetizer to start the meal, not too salty and not too overwhelming as well. -- Creamy Jambalaya Pasta ($38) -- Covered in Cajun Cream Sauce, Andouille Sausage, Peppers, Grilled Chicken, and shrimp, there's a bit of a spice that's in every bite, it just wasn't anything special. I had found some shrimp shells in my shrimp but it was manageable to clear out. Aside from that, portions are pretty standard so there's a plus on that front. For the price, I would choose another option. 6/10 -- Lemon Basil Rigatoni VEGAN ($28) -- Comes covered in Roasted Garlic Cashew Cream, and some vegetables, pretty opposite to the Jambalaya pasta, each bite was pretty flavorful and I thought it complimented the spicy flavor of the Jambalaya. Portions are pretty big as well but not as much as the other dish. Would order this again. 8/10 Overall, a solid restaurant with decent food, seems more of a brunch place so I'll see if my partner and I can revisit next time to try other dishes. We sat at the bar, and the bartenders were super attentive and friendly. My cousin and I had espresso martini's that were delicious and the men had a neat pour of Old Forester president choice. Mind you this is at 9am. The bartenders had lots of knowledge with all the bourbon they had, which kept our husbands busy. Only go here when they're crowded or your fried chicken won't be good, actually it'll suck. We went for dinner and they were very busy. Fried chicken was amazing. Maybe the best I ever had. The breading had the most amazing crispiness without being too thick. We went back for brunch and the fried chicken was bad. It obviously had been sitting under a heat lamp for a long time, maybe days or weeks. The skin was soft and gross. read more
