I enjoy a good Italian Sandwich from time to time. Occasionally I've had some of the best veal sandwiches in the GTA. California Sandwiches, San Remo Bakery, Tre Mari Bakery, Via Cibo, Maranello Cafe, Papamio's, Cosimo's, Calabria Bakery, Belaggio's, Commisso Brothers, Vi Pei Bistro and Remezzo's. They make decent sandwiches. Out of all of them, I find Nino D'Aversa Bakery makes one of the best Italian Veal Sandwiches in the GTA. It was my first time visiting this iconic Italian bakery, deli and hot table. It was so good it definitely won't be my last visit. Traditional Italian Veal Sandwiches are served on crusty bread fresh from their bakery with your choice of toppings like mushrooms, peppers and cheese. This nostalgic sandwich will have you planning on coming back for more. The wood fired pizzas are to die for. The gnocchi left me speechless. Beautiful Italian cafe! The friendliest people working here make the best cappuccino and they make your visit special. So many types of specialty breads in their bakery. Calabrese Round, Calabrese Long, Spaccato, French Stick, Corn Bread, Semolino, Whole Wheat French Stick, Ciabatta Loaf, Ciabatta Baguette, Vienna Calabrese, Whole Wheat Vienna, Rye Bread, Multigrain, Sourdough, Rolls and Bread Crumb Tubs. Much improved since my last visit. Their stock has diminished, very much in keeping with the current economic times - totally understandable. Their popular products are still available. We were treated to some delicious Portuguese tarts and cannolis from this location. The Portuguese tarts were quite good. Light crispy tart with a creamy, slight lemon custard and caramelized top. The cannolis were also delicious, light and fluffy without being overly sweet. Will have to come back to try more items! read more

No pics because I didn't have time. I over stayed my welcome. I didn't see anyone else being told to hurt up. Is it because I am not Italian? Is because I'm not a senior? Why me and not the Italian men in there ? We are in isolation. After eating all my chocolate I decided to pop out to replenish on some grocery items. I wanted cake. I decided to look up bakeries to help support them. After being at this bakery for four minutes I was asked to hurry up and leave. The lady was upset I was couldn't decide on my pastries fast enough. You have 20 different varieties sweets. I was ready to order but she just kept going on about how I couldn't stay so long. So I said 'thank you' and and sprinted for the exit. I called the bakery and asked if there was a time limit of staying on the premises. She said people can't get coffee and socialize and if they are buying groceries they can stay longer. I wasn't socialing with anyone. I didn't buy coffee. I was looking around. She did offer for me to return and that I would be helped but I felt too uncomfy. Won't be returning ever! Quadrozzi Pizza first of all is a big hit when I come here, the service is average, and the ambience is okay. But the pizza is where it's at for me in particular. It not your average run-of-the-mill type of pizza from my experience. They actually make it pretty simple and delicious, not really like most pizza brands nearby. I grew up coming here at least once a week with my dad to buy legit Italian bakery bread and, if I was lucky, a beautiful scoop of gelato. Well, those were the days, I guess. Based on my most recent experience here ... WTF with management, man? We came in to choose a birthday cake for my dad. My angsty child predictably wished to wait in the car while hub and I came in for the goods. We had a nice selection of cakes to choose from, and we were served after an acceptable wait time. We were able to get what we wanted, have the writing added ... and THEN - it all went so effin' downhill ... We were directed to go to either the cash opposite the baked goods case, or around the corner. Well guess what. The cash opposite the baked goods case was empty, and stayed that way. We looked over around the corner ... and there's the lineup from hell, for people who are waiting to buy lunch or takeout food from the hot table. There are two registers there ... but only one cashier ... and I was too stupid, not to be nice. You know what happens to the nice gal ... yup, finished basically dead last, waiting in this effing hot table line while people place orders, have orders filled, and then pay ... we were there over 20 freaking minutes, and not one staff (not that I expect customers to care) had the wherewithal to notice, we're standing here, sideways out of the line in full view, with a box ready to pay for a $50 cake and we are stuck like dumb fish in a bowl waiting to give you our money, because we don't need to place food orders and wait for hot table service. We already waited in line on the other side and got served where we needed it. OMFG. I was sure my kid would kill me by the time we finally got back to the car. It was my lucky day. Came for pastries because I'm a pastry monster...and was in the area. I got a tiramisu, custard tart, sfogliatella and a cannoli. Cannoli was huge, I even saved half for the next day. It was also pretty good for a pre-filled cannoli. Lots of ricotta. I know pre-filled cannoli's are a no no in cannoli world. The four items came to a total of $10.17. There are no prices or labels marked so you kinda just have to go for it or ask about everything. Tiramisu was very good. Good balance of cream and cake. Cake was nice and soft. No flavours were too overbearing. Sfogliatella was yuck. Some people might like this, but it is not for me. I did not enjoy the orangey ricotta filling. If it was a plain cream or ricotta I would have enjoyed it more. My bf finished this one off. Like I said, some people like that and also there was no descriptions, so I just went for it. The small Inferno is my favourite spicy pizza for lunchtime. I have to admit, I'm spoiling myself by ordering the small Inferno once a week. Best way to experience this pizza is to walk into the bakery, order and pay for it at the cashier, wait 10 minutes or so, then pick it up directly from the pizza maker who makes it fresh in the wood burning oven. It comes out piping hot and a little too hot to dig in right away. Give it a few minutes, then it's pizza heaven. Personal size is good for 1 person only, especially if you're hungry. Not the warmest reception for newbies with questions but the staff seem to treat the regulars well. System is definitely confusing to a newcomer. You order your dessert (there are no prices posted and many of the items are not marked so you have to ask what they are) and espresso drinks at one counter then if you're dining in, you pick up your order at another counter then have a seat. When you are done, you leave your dirty dishes at the table, you tell the cashier what you had and pay on your way out. I had a cappuccino and a chocolate cream puff. The bitter dark chocolate ganache (chocolate glaze) contrasted well with the flaky pastry and the light chocolate cream filling which was not overly sweet. The cappuccino was strong and paired well with the dessert. On my way out I sampled the Tiramisu gelato, it was way too sweet for my taste. This place is open till 11pm every day, popular with the locals, with a high noise level from all the different conversations going on around you. I usually come to Nino D'aversa Bakery for a quick coffee break and a pastry. There are 2 lines one for the hot table and other just for sweets. Nothing too amazing and all the constructions in the area, turning into and out of the plaza can be such a hazzle. I have drove by a few time and did not even bother dropping by again. We did a takeaway of the quadrozzi pizza which is basically sun dried tomatoes and melted bocconi on a wood fired pizza and a Zeppole which is custard filled pastry. The pizza was delicious, we did a personal size between the 2 of us as we were not sure if we could finish a large. It's a decent size and was enough for the two of us with the dessert. The pizza was nice and crunchy, the sun dried tomatoes added a beautiful flavor. The Zeppole was a refreshing change of flavor and we loved it. Recommended if in the area. read more

I have been coming to this location for years to eat the best Margerita Pizza, loaded with fresh Basil and baked to perfection! However, when I visited a few weeks ago I had the worst Pizza's I've ever eaten. Tasteless cardboard crust with burned crumbs / debris under it. The fresh Basil was replaced with some dry facsimile of basil (possibly oregano). The new "Pizza Chef" didn't even know what he had put on the pizza, and brought me the bowl to SEE what he used. I have been coming to this bakery for over 20 years. I come here to pick up fresh bread, cold cuts and desserts. This is a famous local establishment. It is also a restaurant where you can pick up hot food to go or sit in. I usually come here to eat one of their well known wood oven pizzas. My go to pizza is the Inferno. It is so delicious!!! I used to come here 30 years ago, on a regular basis. I recently moved back to the area 2 years ago. Things have certainly changed in this place. Food is still excellent. Great Italian coffees but the rest?.. like speed of service, accuracy of checkout, cleanliness of tables? Terrible. Its like no one cares anymore in this place. They put one of the slowest people that I've ever experienced, serving at the Hot Table? A mature lady with wine colored hair...This lady could care less. 2x I've had the bad luck of getting her. One young girl cashes me out and overcharged me by $5?.. didn't ask for assistance, had no idea of the price of my meal. They were out of butter?.. not the first time. Nothing can compare to this place. Not only do they make the best ice cream, they have an extremy wide selection of pastries, cakes and cookies. Their hot table is incredible. Close to home and very convenient for small necessities like bread, deli, and much more. There is a hot foods counter but nothing special really. There is a bar as well. I'm sure there are many things I have yet to discover. This place always appears to be busy with people coming in and out at all times. Lots of Italian products and imported goods. Can't forget the sweets counter. Ample seating very simple and straightforward layout of the place making everything easy to find. I normally love the pizza here but today I would of rather had little ceasers. Awful pizza the pizza maker had huge pieces of sweet salami on the pizza the cheese wasn't even evenly put on. Basically, a decent place to grab some lunch and some groceries. As others have said, this is a half-restaurant and half-groceries setup, where the grocery section is baked goods (bread and pastries) as well as a moderate selection of other things (cheese, pasta sauce, etc.). There were three of us for lunch. The lines were busy, but didn't take terribly long. The cafeteria-style food looked a little dry from being out in a cafeteria line for me, so I opted for a pizza, which would be made fresh. A friend did the same, and a second friend ordered a sandwich, which is also made fresh. All three of us enjoyed our lunches, although I don't think we're likely to be struck by a strong craving to return. Basically we were happy with what we had, but just happy. It's a bakery, with a few supermarket goods on one side, and a lunch counter on the other side. The staff were so kind, sweet and helpful, and the food is home-cooked Italian! Delizioso! I am almost never in this area (Keele and Finch), nor in the Burbs where their other locations are (Vaughn, Thornhill, etc) but I will go out of my way to visit here anytime I am close. I purchased a package of Nino D'Aversa onion buns from Longos. I checked the ingredients as there are certain things I do not eat (eggs, milk, etc) and they appeared all good. When I got home I noticed that the nutritional information showed that they contained a small amount of cholesterol, which only comes from animal derived ingredients- but none are listed. I also noticed what appears to be a coating of egg wash on the buns. Eggs are a serious allergen and legally required to be listed on an ingredient panel. I messaged their Facebook page inquiring if there was in fact egg ingredients in these buns or where the cholesterol was stemming from. They confirmed that egg wash is used. I asked why a serious allergen like this is not listed, at which point they recanted saying that there are no eggs but that they'd look into it and get back to me. They never did get back to me, and instead blocked me on messenger. So consider yourself warned: If you have allergies, ethical/religious restrictions or other dietary restrictions, do NOT buy Nino D'Aversa products. They cannot be trusted and they don't take this matter seriously. They are also in violation of Canada's food labelling laws. read more
