Enjoyed my hojicha latte, though I didn't realize it would have the brown sugar slurry in it. Also wish they had a low fat milk option. For the awesome menu choices and quality alone, I'm giving them five stars!
I got a brown sugar matcha latte with whole milk. God, it was one of the worse matchas I've had in NY. It tasted like straight milk. Service was friendly, but the drink itself was pretty bad. They need to figure out their ratios of milk to matcha. I might come back to try their soft serve, but I'm scared to pay $10 for another bad matcha.
Matcha soft serve is insanely STRONG. Not for the weak and not for the casual matcha lovers. Not too sweet either Tbh I loved but for some it may be tooo much
This place is legit for strong matcha done right. They sell all kinds of high quality merchandise and tools and it's custom branded by Nippon Cha. Matcha latte, reg sweet, with oat milk (5/5) Strong matcha and good strong flavor. I consider myself a matcha nerd and I'm impressed. It's creamy, refreshing and gives a wonderful calm long lasting caffeine kick that's better than any coffee. Regular sweetness is just right. They use simple syrup by default but they offer other options like brown sugar, honey or stevia. Small cozy spot with limited window seats and outside seating. A must try for matcha enthusiasts in Brooklyn. Excellent and respectful service.
The strawberry matcha is really good. The staff is friendly and they sell really cute cups as well as everything you need for your matcha. It was a quaint matcha spot.
One of my favorite matcha places int he city! You can really taste the matcha! I got the Kuro Mitsu Matcha and it was basically a brown sugar matcha latte. The brown sugar syrup wasn't overpowering. They do batch their matcha and then just add x amount of grams to your latte when you order, which is slightly disappointing. The staff as very nice and they got the matcha to me quickly (although it wasn't super busy around 11am on a Sunday when I went). They also sell a variety of matcha powders and matcha accessories in store!

If you like seriously strong ceremonial grade matcha reminiscent of how it's done in Japan, then this is the place. The matcha is so strong that I had to drink it way slower because the caffeine was hitting. Shamefully I like matcha lattes that balance matcha quality/strength with more creaminess, so this was too much for me. But yeah this is quality stuff and the cup was quite large despite being a "small"
The quality of the matcha is amazing! The iced matcha latte was so creamy, and not too sweet. You can taste the matcha, and it's not powdery. The matcha tiramisu is so creamy. The strawberry matcha is perfect, not too sweet. The staff are all so kind, they work fast even when the line gets long. There are only two tables inside, and it's a small space.
I've been here a few times on two different trips now (which is saying something, because I'm more of a Manhattan girlie than a Brooklyn girlie.) How does this keep happening? My friend who works in the neighborhood routinely enjoys their Usucha ("thin tea", or plain matcha)--it's prepared well and is soothing and has a rich bitter matcha flavor. Twice, I ordered my Kuro mitsu Matcha Latte. It's rich and sweet (hey, kuromitsu is a Japanese syrup!) Matcha Cheese Cake was also rich, sweet, and just the right amount of bitterness. The interior is very minimalist, intimate, and cozy. Service is fine.
First time here!! I wanted to try a matcha strawberry and oh my goodness it was delicious. While they were making I was surprised of the process of making it, I thought it was cool I would definitely come back.
We were walking around the area and found this cha-ya. Tried a new drink today! Matcha latte with Kinako- roasted soy bean. If you like Kinako you will like it. It's a little grainy and nutty flavored. Kinako powder is usually a topper on mochi and other desserts. Cute little cafe for tea.
4.7/5 Matcha Soft Serve -- very impressed! Matcha flavor is very strong and bitter forward if you like that! Ice cream base is very smooth, and didn't melt too fast even when eating by Domino Park! Only some slight grittiness of the matcha powder noted as it melted. Portion is also super generous, easily could be split between 2 people.

The cold whisked matcha latte here altered my brain chemistry. It was SO creamy and rich and now I want to start cold whisking my matcha lattes at home. You walk in and can order at the counter or at the self-serve kiosk. They have various options for drinks but limited seating. You can also buy various matcha utensils and powders here! read more

Henry was a great server. Very attentive, friendly, and funny. He truly made our experience enjoyable. The sashimi and sushi were incredibly fresh, practically melting in our mouths, and so smooth and flavorful. The ambiance was nice and cozy, perfect for a cold, snowy day. Once again, Henry was an outstanding server you're lucky to have him. He definitely deserves a raise! I would come back and bring my friends just to be served by Henry again and enjoy the delicious food. read more

If you like matcha and you're around the area I'd recommend stopping by. I didn't get anything fancy - just an iced matcha with oat milk. Not too grassy or bitter, perfect amount of "earthiness" and it was smooth (not filled with chunky green powder). Place is TINY. Do not recommend coming here to hangout unless it's a nice day because there are some outdoor tables. Other than that it's almost just an order at the counter or kiosk and go situation. There also can be long lines (again, the place is tiny), but it moves fast. read more

I wanted a pick-me-up after lunch and we stumbled upon Nippon Cha. There is usually a line, but it moves quickly. I opted for the pumpkin spice hojicha latte, since I have never seen anything like it. It was the perfect amount of sweetness and the pumpkin complemented the hojicha well. I tried my friends' matcha lattes and wasn't particularly "wow-ed" by them, but I really enjoyed the hojicha here! read more

Got this matcha twice in my four day visit here in New York (so yk it's good). The strawberry jam is soooo soft and doesn't have those seeds and overly artificial taste like most strawberry matcha have. The service was quick and we were able to order without any wait. This was my first time having matcha latte and matcha lemonade, and this place did not disappoint! Nippon Cha has a fantastic selection of matcha drinks-- I especially loved the matcha lemonade for a sweet yet tangy drink, perfect to drink on a hot day. Quality matcha! Came on a Saturday afternoon and the place was packed! Conveniently located in the heart of Williamsburg, the space is pretty cozy with only ~2 tables. I love that you can watch them craft your matcha bev in front of you. I ordered a Hot Matcha Latte with Oat Milk (~$7), which had the perfect ratio of matcha to milk! While the drinks can be a bit on the pricier end, you're getting a drink with quality Japanese matcha. I got the Kuro Mitsu with matcha, which had brown sugar and was very creamy. This was one of the creamiest matchas I've had in the US. There's just a table for two in the corner, as well as a few seats outside. When I was about to grab my order, one of the staff raised their voice at me while saying the order number (which matched my receipt). That caught me off guard. read more
I always pass by Nippon Cha whenever I grab a slice at Joe's Pizza in WBurg. I finally got a chance to try it and thoroughly enjoyed the iced Kuro Mitsu Matcha Latte. It was the perfect balance of matcha, milk, and brown sugar. I got the regular sweetness and it was just right. Ordering is convenient as you order from the kiosk and the drinks are served up fast. I recommend this place if you are in the mood for matcha. They also sell match powder and loose tea leaves which I will be picking up next time. read more

(Overall: C) - Nippon Cha has an innovative menu with some eye-catching items. I think the execution of the food has been a bit questionable, but I feel like it could be worth a revisit. (Tochuchua Ice Cream: B) - I found the Tochucha flavor to be quite pleasant as it gives some floral tartness to the ice cream to counter balance the sweetness. It reminds me of a blend of roasted green tea and earl grey and was wuite pleasant. The size appears to be half pint, which is reasonable, although I wish it was more elegantly served in a manner to be enjoyed for here rather than togo. (Dirty Hojicha Latte: D) - Given bitterness coming from both the Hojicha and the espresso, I was surprised to see the recommended sugar level to be 30%. Regardless, I tried this drink at 50% sweetness and did not find it sweet to balance the duality of bitterness. Otherwise, the drink looked nice through the gradients created through the layering. This place is hopping! Saturday afternoon on a chilly fall day, almost 4pm and there's a line out the door 10-15 people deep. The ordering system is self service at a single kiosk, the receipt prints out at the end of your order with a number, and they call out numbers when the orders are ready. The ticket printer was broken yesterday so I kinda had to guess which order was mine. Eventually they told me I could just grab the ice cream (pre-packaged) from the freezer to the left of the bar area. On the menu are some nifty creative tea drinks (a few with coffee too)--both hot and iced--and a smattering of dessert options. Popular drinks include their kuromitsu matcha latte (kuromitsu is like a Japanese brown sugar), tochucha yuzu lemonade (Japanese Arnold Palmer if you will), tochucha Americano. I came to try the tochucha ice cream and wasn't disappointed, the fragrant earthly and slightly floral tea flavor in the ice cream was quite unique. At $7 it was also a little pricey for a small cup but I guess ok to treat yourself once in a while. The shop is quite small so there are only 4 seats inside and about 6 seats outside under a covered street side seating area. Nippon Cha originated in Japan and they specialize in premium grade Japanese tea, which according to their website are largely single origin, first harvest teas, with tea leaves grown specifically in Japan for pure drinking tea (as compared to others that are for food preparation etc.), and they set quite strict standards for what they consider acceptable quality to carry their Nippon Cha branding. Aside from the to-go food and drink items, they sell a variety of Japanese teas, with hojicha and ceremonial grade matcha, being two of the more commonly known. I'm definitely curious about some of the drinks and the matcha tiramisu which has been getting love in other reviews. Will be back to try some other items! *note: no bathroom available. read more
Cute spot to grab a coffee, matcha drink or something sweet to eat. Its not large but they have a few indoor seats and a couple of tables outside which are great to sit at and people watch. Came here to enjoy some matcha since it was a break time trying to figure what to do before I fly home from NYC to smf. . I came here to try the matcha latte with almond milk. The matcha is strong and taste wonderful. This place is perfect for people that love matcha green Tea. They take the time to mix and whisk the matcha in a bowl. I love the water fountain they had to grab the hot warm water to make the drinks. . Espresso - this was different and the taste wasn't my favorite. It was quite earthy and strong to sip on which I always love doing. It might make a great latte to drink with. But sipping on the tiny cup itself wasn't a vibe for me at the moment. . Nippon cha is a small little matcha cafe in Williamsburg. It has self service ordering and a small amount of indoor + outdoor seating. I ordered the matcha tiramisu and a matcha latte. The tiramisu was super good, rich matcha flavor and creamy. Not too sweet either. The matcha latte was okay. The matcha looks like it's super good quality, but the flavor was just okay. Maybe too overpowered by the milk. I would definitely go again for their tiramisu, and maybe try a different drink. Overall really cute place! read more

The fact that you can self-serve your own ice-cream samples is brilliant and should be a practice adopted by all ice-cream shops. It's vastly efficient and implies trust in customers--both wins, however you look at it. Of the four ice-cream flavors available to sample--tochucha, matcha, hojicha, and koucha--the tochucha was by far my favorite. So good that I ended up getting the Tochucha Yuzu Lemonade, which to be clear, is really a Yuzuade, as the dominant flavor was tochucha and yuzu. It was delicious--perfect for a humid, sweltering summer's day. The Satsuma Koucha is great if you just want a straightforward Arnold Palmer-type drink, or if you're in great need of antioxidants, the Matcha Coconut Water is a surprisingly complementary combination. read more

The matcha was not mixed well at all and sooo clumpy!! You can literally see the chunks of matcha powder in my drink pictured. It made the drinking experience pretty unenjoyable. The shop is small and crowded as well, but they had a nice selection of kitchenware and supplies to make your own matcha at home. Their ordering system is pretty fast and easy with the kiosk. I think the matcha they use is very high quality since it was so vibrant, but the failure to fully dissolve it kicked the drink down a few notches. read more

Accidentally I end up here today lol. It was so hot & humid outside so decided to try something cold. The server recommended lemonade & let me tell u it was so good. I am not a big fan of lemonade but this was too good not to fell in love with ! The service was great, cute little spot ! Only reason I am not giving 5 star is because it was so hot inside , was having hard time breathing! Didn't expect that ! I hope its not like that all the time . Yum, the matcha tiramisu was really good! We came in on a Sunday afternoon after lunch to grab a drink before going shopping, and it wasn't too busy! Service was really good, the cashier was really helpful in helping us decide what to order. There's no seating inside, so we sat outside on the terrace. The matcha tiramisu was really good, I could really taste the matcha flavor and the tiramisu wasn't too sweet! I also ordered a hojicha latte, which was delicious and paired nicely with the tiramisu on that gloomy Sunday. Great matcha quality! Not bitter nor too sweet, and portions are good. Not the type of place to skimp or oversaturate with ice. Drinks aren't the cheapest but hey, quality is there! The place is serious about the craft, as they have various matcha powders for sale, as well as whisks, etc. The variety is great, from beverages to ice cream and an abundance of flavor combinations to keep things interesting. Staff here aren't the nicest nor seem to really care about service but they get the job done. There's plenty of outdoor seating on busy bedford! If you want something different try their yuzu matcha lemonade just make sure you don't drink anything sweet before trying because of can be very sour to you. read more
I accidentally made a line on the dessert haha, still looks pretty! First I want to say, you can REALLY taste the quality of the matcha they utilized in this dessert. It was absolutely divine. It tasted so rich, and yet light. It was not to sweet (the ultimate compliment). The place was cute and had outdoor seating as well. We came here 30 minutes before closing and even though they gave us a warning before they were packing up outdoors and closing, they were nice about it. When you go in, you just order everything on a kiosk. Very simple and easy. Really want to try out their cheesecake, aesthetically, it looked like a crepe cake. I'm from staten island and this place was worth the drive. For their dessert. I came here with a friend who got the matcha brown sugar, the brown sugar was at the bottom and needed a spoon or straw to mix with. I ordered the Kuro Mitsu Hojicha Latte, the order came out quickly. It was slightly busy when I arrived but the line moved fast. This drink has to be one of THE BEST matcha lattes I've ever had. Make sure to stir it all in so you get the matcha, the creaminess of the milk, and the sweetness from the brown sugar. The matcha was so good, that I bought the matcha they used. They sell different varieties of matcha, and other teas. Def check this place out! read more

Nippon Cha is a small store. There was only one small table inside and someone was sitting at it when we entered. We ordered on the iPad by the door and the drinks were prepared quickly. Very cute and authentic place - I got a iced Hojicha latte with oat milk. This is my favorite drink and it did not disappoint! I only recently came to like it from having it in Japan and this comes pretty close. I'm by no means an expert but it was a little chalkier than I'd like. Still very delicious, and less bitter than green tea. The staff was very sweet and friendly, I'll definitely come back to try this hojicha icecream! Just have to figure out if it's lactose free haha. read more
