This bad review is for the Niros on Springfield. Niros on Kirby is great and I love getting food there. The manager remembers my name and everything. A friend gave me a gift card for Niros on Springfield so I checked it out. It smelled like they mopped the floor with tire shine so I was losing my appetite already. Then they wouldn't honor the gift card! What a crock! Now what do I do, tell my friend his gift was nothing and he threw his money away? Forget it! Wanted to go to lil porgys across the lot but saw how packed the drive through was at niros gyros and thought id try it. Bad idea. The building is run down which is somewhat typical for a gyro place not complaining about that but the inside is filthy after ordering i went to get some ketchup out of the dispenser and flies flew out of it faster than ketchup. I considered getting my money back before they had a chance to cook my food. The tables were all dirty. Another table and I got attacked by flies the whole time eating. The gyro was okay at best. My order was wrong. So was the people behind me. Both orders were corrected fairly but after the rest of the experience it makes you wonder what else can be wrong. I'm sitting here filled with regret for eating even half of the Italian beef! The meat had a rubbery texture and strange flavor- maybe it was an old batch. If you value your taste buds and stomach don't order the Italian beef unless you want the risk of a violent stomach ache that keeps you attached to a gag bag and bathroom. You've been warned. As for the gyros, they are better than the Italian beef, but not very satisfying after the first couple of bites. The meat isn't dry, but it is SALTY and I am not one to ever complain about seasoned meat. This here is over-salted. I was actually semi-cool with the fact that they were stingy with the tzatziki sauce. It certainly did not taste like the complement I expect when I enjoy a gyro sandwich. It's a gyros joint. We both got gyros ... cause ya do. They seemed a little heavier on the beef side, which was quite tasty. The tsatsiki was exceptional. The fries ... ok, I will repeat my usual complaint about fries. They should buy sacks of potatoes, and make their own. I think that about everywhere. They didn't do that in this case, and the fries were still exceptional. Double dropped, as good fries should be. This will be a regular road stop for us from now on. read more

I recently made a trip back to UIUC for a visit. There were a few places that i had to hit, and this was one of them. during my undergraduate days, I used to live in apartments just a few blocks away from Niro's, and it was definitely one of those 1 or more times a week places. The prices were unbeatable and the food was delicious. My order is usually the burger with fries and drink (a #1 meal if i remembered right). Back a few years ago, they used to outside of the hamburger buns a little, but it doens't seem like they do that anymore. However, the burger tastes basically just as i remembered. The order of fries is also the same size, and the prices are still low. It was a great to come back and see that the quality of food is still the same as before. We went through the drive thru and ordered a single gyro every thing, and got the onions, tomatoes and not the main gyro sauce which is a important part of the sandwich. When I called with the ticket number bcuz I had the receipt and explained to them that the main ingredient is missing. They ask if I can come pick up the sauce, I stated I lived 16 miles away. I ask for a discount or some sort on another visit and she said her boss does not work like that. I said I can take a picture. Still no. The last couple times we got Niro's there was almost no Tzaziki sauce. When my wife a their great "get 2 get another free deal" she had to pay extra for a tub of the sauce that SHOULD have been on the sandwich. It's like ordering a cheeseburger & getting a burger with a shmear of cheez-wiz & having to pay for an actual slice of cheese. Why be chintzy with what's the cheapest component? My wife and I pre-ordered food to pick up after work. We really like their food. However, we won't be going back to this location. When I arrived to pick up my food, there was a truck at the drive through window just chatting with the girl who works the window. I sat there for 10 minutes before they moved. Then I get to the window and the lady is rude and asks what I want. I said I had an order for Mike and April. She huffed and sighed and told me it'd be about 10 minutes because they hadn't started cooking it. I told them I pre-ordered and she got snotty, telling me "we have other customers you know". I took that and didn't get mad. As I am sitting in my car waiting, I see a semi truck pull up with no trailer. It parks because it can't fit through the drive through. The older black woman walks to the order sign and stands there. Then she walks to my passenger side of my car. I roll down the window and ask if I can help her. She says she's an over the road trucker and had been driving all day and just wanted a Gyro. I told her I'd get the lady so she could order and we small talked. SUPER nice lady. She was a little disheveled from working and was standing by my car when I knocked on the drive through window to get their attention. The girl at the window huffs to the window and just looks at me. I told her that this nice lady is a trucker and needed to place an order but couldn't fit her truck and could she help her? She closed the window in our face and a few seconds later this Indian guy busts out the window like he's going to do something. I laughed and told him to relax that this lady just wants to place an order. This man totally stereotyped this woman and treated her like she was a homeless street walker. He was soooooo rude that the lady got mad and told him not to talk to her like that. I then told him that he shouldn't talk to this woman that way either and that she is just a hungry trucker. He said "ya, give me your damn money". She just looked at him so hurt and told him to fuq off and went somewhere else. I apologized for HIS behavior and was totally embarrassed that this was her experience in champaign. I had already paid so I waited for my food, said thank you and left. I have never seen a more blatant display of racism in my life from a business. He sure didn't talk to me like that but I'm a big guy, disabled veteran and look pretty mean. I am a huge fan of their Italian Beef. It is a large sandwich and you can have it with au jus or marinara sauce. I also like their fries--they come with some of the skin on and they always taste fresh. The grilled chicken pita is a nice alternative to the regular gyro meat (lamb?) since greasy meat is not my stomach's friend. I love the pita bread and the sauce. Their Greek salad is my favorite fast food salad. Even the "small" is really big and generously topped with tomato, Greek olives, feta, mild white onions, and cucumber. Yum! The one downside is that they are not good with delivery. The times we ordered at the office it took way too long to get our food and the orders were always screwed up somehow. They really need to get their large orders act together. However, I have always had a good experience with an individual order in drive thru. read more

They intentionally gave me Italian beef meat on my philly sandwich and said that was how they have been doing it for 20 years. When asked for my money back they offered to make it with steak meat. They refused to give me my refund and I had to end up canceling the transaction on credit card for 18 dollars after a 15 minute debate with the owner. They took the food back but refused to give me my money back on top of that the owners wife came out yelling that it's been this way for 20 years ! This place is ran down and scammy after all and I would not recommend this specific Nyros Gyros in Springfield I've never had this problem at the other two that we have in town so shame on them ! You can purchase more pitas from them if you'd like, or just pick up some from the store in advance and save some money, Great deal if you pick up the triple gyro plate, especially with the $2 off coupon. Ordered food over 90 minutes ago...it has not been delivered yet. Have been trying to call for the past 10 minutes and no one is picking up. The past few times we have ordered, the wrong food was delivered to us and we had to call and have the driver sent back. I never used to have so many issues with bad service here. This is the last time I will order from this location, and I will tell everyone I know about this poor experience. Once or twice, I know things happen...it gets busy. But this is the last straw. Update: After TWO HOURS, I drove down there. I was informed that their driver never showed up, so they weren't doing deliveries. I was livid. When I asked why I had not been called, I was shown a STACK of phone in orders and told, "We were too busy," and they admitted that they had stopped answering the phone. The so-called manager just kept making poor excuses. You cancelled deliveries for the evening, neglected to call the 20+ people you took orders from and let them know, then stopped answering the phone?!?! He even stated they were going to be closing early due to not having enough staff. After they made our food for us, they locked up. So all those people who ordered food were ignored. That is absolutely horrendous customer service. You have lost my business, and I was a regular long-time customer! read more

When you walk into Niro's Gyros, the place looks a little run down, but don't let that turn you away. My boyfriend and I tried this restaurant about a year ago because he loved gyros. The person who answered the phone asked if I wanted to drive back and I said no I didn't want to drive back, so you want it fixed some other time? No, send it to me!
