By the start of the game, it was 90% full! The people sitting next to us were very friendly and we had a fabulous time!

I transferred in so I only take classes at Barsema Hall. If you are looking to have professors who…read morespeak fluent English, do not take up a Finance or Business degree at NIU. Positives: Professor Doughty speaks fluent English and is a great professor. He teaches Business and has actually ran and sold his own highly successful business. I have learned more about public speaking and people skills in his class than my actual public speaking classes. Professor Benning speaks fluent English and is a great professor. He is enthusiastic and knows how to encourage class participation without making it feel forced. Highly engaging teaching style. Professor Kuhn is pretty funny and brings in some cool guest speakers. Field trips. The school goes up to Chicago for field trips, it's pretty nice. Bloomberg Terminal access. The school has access to the Bloomberg Terminal and opens up access to students which is pretty cool since otherwise I would have to pay about $32,000 per year for one of my own. There are a few impressive alumni (Robert Zemeckis, Dennis Barsema, The Nostalgia Critic, a handful of athletes and state legislators). The Huskies are also actually pretty good at football. Negatives: About half of the Finance/Business professors speak very poor English, and because most of the classes involve numbers, you're on your own. You will need a Chegg subscription. Main road to get to the campus has been blocked off for over a year now. Crime. Muggings, shootings, and rape. The closest gas station has a thick wall of bulletproof glass in front of the cash register. I don't want to act like it's as bad as Rockford or Chicago or something because nobody has given me any trouble but just be warned. Your typical DEI crap. Tampons in the men's bathroom. All College of Business students are forced to attend at least one DEI event before graduating. Here's an example of the title of one of these such events: "Conversations of the Heart: Valentine's Day Queered". Parents - keep in mind this is the kind of thing you're paying $30,000/year for. You are not guaranteed a decent job after all the money you pay. I'd say NIU sucks, but all of this stuff is unfortunately par for the course for higher education in the US at the moment.

Corn Fest is downtown on Rt. 38. Best food is:…read more Fay's BBQ pork chop sandwiches and pork/chicken kabobs. Great lemon shake ups too. Greek Orthodox Church Gyros - seriously, best ever. Kiwana's brings a wooden keg of semi-locally made root-beer and the floats are oh so good. They also serve Dekalb Del Monte corn a few ways. There was a place, I think taco explosion, with deliciously seasoned steak tacos. Tinez tacos have really good chicken tacos but the steak needs either searing or seasoning. Thai Pavillion has really great noodles and fried rice. Salt Creek BBQ had awesome cooked forever ribs and the pulled pork was really good too. Free corn is served during the corn boil which is either Saturday or Sunday morning depending on the year. They serve something crazy like 30K ears and go until it runs out. A bad experience was a gyro from a place that had it simmering in a giant wok like pan with onions. It looked good but was inedible and thrown in the garbage. We got more tacos and quesadilla's from the taco explosion instead. Be ware - that place had other similar wok style meat plates too that we won't try. Funnel cakes everywhere and typical carnival fare. US adults go to eat and the kids ride at the carnival. It's a great time. All the local businesses have booths too.

My friends reminded me it was Corn Fest weekend, so why not check it out…read more Although calling this fest corn fest seemed to miss the mark. I was expecting more corn dishes and corn themed. There was a lot of typical carnival eats as well as taco trucks. Fest is free to walk around. If not staying to watch the music or ride the carnival rides an hour or so is plenty.

You can select seats online as well, and the website will provide an up-to-the-minute diagram showing how many seats have been filled in the theater - very helpful if you want privacy on a date / want to avoid a crowded show / want to make sure the movie you're seeing is being presented on one of the theater's larger screens. I'm honestly not sure why people have an issue with the lobby. Who the hell goes to the movies just to hang out in the lobby? Yes, there's popcorn everywhere - the Catch-22 of filling buckets past the top and DeKalb generally being full of slobs - and there isn't always a helluva lot of staff on-hand besides the manager and one or two token employees. Pricing has gone up ever since Carmike went under and AMC took over. Not a problem on my part, since I sneak my own stuff in, but I've heard a lot of people making the snack-counter kids aware of just how ridiculous the current price of popcorn is.
