However, I do feel it's important to be honest about the front desk experience. There is one receptionist who answers the phone and tends to be unfriendly, which unfortunately discourages people, my daughter included, from wanting to schedule appointments. It's disappointing, especially when the medical care here is outstanding. Cheryl was always a favorite, warm, kind, and welcoming, and I truly miss her. Susan is also wonderful and treats patients with the same kindness and respect we all deserve. When patients walk into a doctor's office, they're often dealing with pain, fear, or vulnerability. A little warmth and compassion from the front desk can go a long way. They are instructed to see one patient every 10 minutes whether they like it or not...Very sad that this is what doctors will do for a paycheck. However, back in February, I had a series of troubling ailments back to back. It culminating in me rushing to St.Joseph's hospital due to a debilitating pain in my legs that prevented me from being able to walk. By this point, I had been to my local immedicenter and this hospital, and while the hospital helped alleviate the pain with painkillers and the walking situating with a brace, neither faculty at both facilities could explain what the heck the cause was. My father, a patient of Dr. Lucila for over 20 years, recommended I visit him. I explained in very lengthy detail everything I had experienced the weeks leading into this incident and how I felt they were related. Unlike the previous places I had been, I could tell Dr.Lucila was actually paying attention to everything I was saying. He wrote notes on his pad and was able to explain the cause if my issue and rectify it. Dr.Lucila is the best doctor I've ever been to. The nurse I first spoke to was very nice and agreed that they would mask, let me wait in the car to avoid a crowded waiting room, and have a first appt of the day. When I called to confirm this a week prior to the appt. I was told by a receptionist that I would need to fill out my paperwork in the waiting area and show ID. He laughed at me when I told him that was dangerous for me and said "You can wear a mask if you're worried" and "this is a public place we can't close for you", when I never asked them to. He also laughed about masks and said "we don't take COVID precautions anymore here." I was in tears after the call and had to cancel my appointment because it was clearly not a safe situation. It's disturbing that at-risk people can not safely access in-person care without facing these attitudes and challenges. This virus is airborne and 45% of people are asymptomatic. Peer-reviewed studies show that even mild infections cause long-term heart problems including a 72% increased risk of heart failure, 63% increased risk of heart attack, and 52% increased risk of strokes. It's shocking to me that 5 years in a cardiology office would choose to endanger their staff and patients and mock someone who is following science and reality.
