Solid service. Long due review I wanted to pen down. These guys helped me move my 1-BR apt just a day after the heavy snow blizzard of Jan 2016. They move wasn't far, probably a mile apart. Two moving companies bailed out due to weather conditions(wont blame them, ppl were not able to pull out the cars forget about trucks). Ricky said he has been able to pull out his truck and can get his two ppl. Ricky arrived with his truck and two men pretty much on time. After the 3 hour timer was set, we just started rolling. I want to give a BIG shout out to one of his start movers, Hector(not sure if I recall the name correct) but that guy is solid. He is just 18 yo big guy, but he can work and can work fast and smart. At one point in the target building he alone carried big queen sized memory foam mattress by himself over his head(the mattress is a beast and even 3 ppl have a tough time tackling it). I had my brother, sis-in-law and one friend to help me. Definitely one has to keep pushing a bit at times or drive so that time doesnt go overboard. Also a BIG shout to my folks who helped me and made the move possible within 3 hours. Hectors smart way to putting stuff for optimal use of every round of elevator really helped get it done without paying extra minute. The other guy who was helping out was decent too - older guy, slower but we and even Hector at times did drive him. Not sure if Ricky also helps in moving but that day he didnt get out of the truck, was just driving. Not good. I should have known better after having one phone call with Ricky but was under strict time contraints. On the day of the move two teenagers (just out of high school) were dispatched to help me. Albeit, one guy was fine, but whatever positivity he brought to the job was overshadowed by the second guy. There was little regard paid to my items and the few nice things I have were handled poorly. Oh, and they smoked up on the job. They reeked of pot when I picked them up (Ricky had me pick these guys up) and smoked up again once we got to my rental unit to unload my stuff onto the truck. read more

IRRESPONSIBLE AND NOT DEPENDABLE. Hired him for a mover job. Day of the move - informed me his truck broke down. I tried to be accommodating and agreed to move the move out day to next evening to help him out on this Day 2 of Move - No response to calls or texts. Had to rent a truck in the end and call in favors from friends to complete the move. Today is Day 4 - Still no contact or apology message. AVOID!! UNRELIABLE & UNPROFESSIONAL Ricky Burgos is a little weasel that will try to talk his way out of everything. He will sound very friendly and accommodating on the phone. Don't be fooled by it!!! This is not even a real professional moving company. They do not accept card or personal check, only cash. The move was scheduled for Saturday arrival between 10-11AM but he had to drop his kids off at his dad's, so extended the arrival time to a little past 12PM. He showed up at 2:40PM. He showed up in a brand new RENTED Budget truck. Really? This alone should exemplify how unreliable and unprofessional he is. Oh and I didn't get confirmation until 2:10AM on Saturday via email. Well to make matters worse - I am in Apt 4. In Manhattan, it is safe to assume it is a walk up. So after he gets to my place and we walk up to my apartment. He kept on ranting about the stairs, saying this wasn't part of the job description, but Ricky and his mover proceeded to move things out of my apartment. If the stairs were such a problem, then maybe they shouldn't have touched my things before trying to negotiate a new price. He asked me to stand outside and watch the truck in case of parking tickets. When we get outside, he tells me he has bronchitis/asthma and that the stairs are a problem. Again, really? Obviously, you are in the wrong business... So he said that the quote he gave did not include the stairs and said he will now need to charge $500 for the move. My move only had a twin mattress, metal bed frame, three drawer dresser, small book shelf, and maybe about 10-15 boxes/ikea bags. Of course I said no and cancelled the move. He started yelling at me saying I screwed him over. There was one ikea bag and a book bag moved onto the truck. He said, "I'll be a gentleman and put these back for you," then as he was walking up the stairs he said, "You know what, this b**** is going to leave me a bad review. Leave her things in the hallway." Ricky and his mover left all of my things on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floor stairway. Well here is your bad review. AVOID RICKY BURGOS/ NJ HELPERS/ MOVERS ON THE HUDSON. I needed to sign the lease on my storage unit by 5PM but Ricky was so late that I didn't have time to hire a different company to move and make it to Hoboken in time. Luckily, this happened on a Saturday. I was able to reserve a 10' Uhaul truck for Sunday. When you rent an Uhaul, you have to option to hire loading/unloading help. 2 guys, 2 hours = $100. My move ended up being three and a half hours, totaling $175. Then I gave them a $50 tip. Total move cost me under $300 (includes truck, helpers, tip, toll and gas). This was my first time driving a 10' truck and it actually isn't that bad. You are way better off renting your own truck and hiring helpers than relying on fake moving companies like NJ Helpers. ----------------------------------------------------------- UPDATE This guy is ridiculous. After I posted this, he is harassing me via text. Seriously, if he cared so much about getting a good review, he should learn the basics of customer service. If stairs are a problem, don't say things on your website like, "no additional fees for walk-ups." I hope my review can help people avoid being stressed out on moving day with an unreliable company like this one. read more

A day before the move, I got to know he has double booked two folks in my building and didn't show up even for one. I was following up for a week and no response. Richard and Robert moved me from a shared two bed in JSQ to my own Studio downtown Jersey City very effectively and quickly, even with my new ridiculously narrow 3 story stair case. Both were incredibly kind, friendly and diligent in the work as soon as they clocked in they were lifting and moving. Robert is insanely strong and was lifting some of the heavier pieces on his own with a smile on his face the whole time. I received a quote for two movers and a truck. Ricky arrived with 2 young guys that were ready to get my move going. Jeffery and Steven went right to work as Ricky and I went over the details. I wanted to ensure that nothing was going to change. I have used a moving company before and every 30 minutes those guys would stop to tell me they had to charge for for this or for that. They would not unload my things until I paid them nearly double what they promised me. I prayed that I would not go through the same ordeal with Ricky's company. When speaking to Ricky I told him about the horror story my last move was and he gave me his word that the only separate charge would be the toll he had to pay when going to the new place. It was however unclear to me about paying the toll twice. It did make sense. If they took a toll there, they would have to take a toll back. It was only an extra $2! Lol. Which was by far the happiest additional charge I have ever been given. It didn't matter at the end. Being that I spent less then I anticipated. Even with the generous tip I added. Steven and Eddie knew exactly what they were doing. From time to time I took a peak at how they were working. They seemed like they've worked with each other for sometime because of how quite it was while they were moving. They were that much in sync. Extremely unprofessional and unreliable. Booked him 2 weeks in advance for my move. Reminded and confirmed 3 times before the move, and Ricky left me hanging until 3 hours after the scheduled move time, assuring me with non-informative texts saying "they're on the way" and he will still be able to complete the job. Even if I were to believe that his phone wasn't working, and his crew member did suffer an injury, having absolutely no contingency plans and not responding to your client until they say they're going to hire someone else is not a prudent way to run a business. Calling up later on to apologize and assure them that this has never happened before, hardly makes anything more believable if everything else you do is so suspicious. It also gives you no monetary benefit to promise something you cannot deliver. You do this enough times, and the number of suckers like me who will overlook the negative reviews drops to zero pretty quickly. Sure, statistically maybe you only do this 20% of the time - but why would someone take that risk? It's not like you're in a high-margin business where you can lower your prices any further. Ricky and his team were great to deal with. I had a simple move for one room from one floor to another in the same building. Other movers wanted to charge me a minimum rate of $600. Ricky was responsive, offered a very competitive rate, let me know what the add-on costs for additional hours were up-front and stuck to his word. If we are giving u exact number of our stuff on email and message then why would we hide it. I mean he just has to come, count the exact number of stuff to be moved(which we mailed, messaged), pick the exact number and move. I mean seriously!! I think he is crazy!!! Thank god we canceled!!. They arrived and were very gentle with my belongings, and took their time to really make sure it was transported and stored in the safest way possible. NO. I would not refer them at all. My appointment time was for 12pm after a change from 10am. They said they had another job @ 10am. they didn't show up until 737pm. Thank God there was not another tenant moving in behind me. They did not finish up until 330am the next morning. Mind u we moved all the big bags of clothes etc. So they didn't move Everything. I was so disappointed and tired. Some of my food had to be thrown out because we couldn't connect the fridge back up right away and I had already took everything out because they said they were on their way. We wound up falling asleep. The two guys that worked, worked hard but why it took forever I don't know. They did not wrap the mattresses and waited til they got to the master bedroom to ask if i wanted the mattress wrapped. Mind you, that mattress and box spring still had the orig. plastic on it. I still can't find my house phones. Maybe I should've packed a lil better but the little things left behind they packed was thrown easily into a bag. I even put everything in the middle of the floor. The first run was quick, they moved fast. The 2nd trip was the bigger things. I think they may have been tired by the time they got to me. But I blame Ricky because if this is his company he should have kept his appt time which was @ 12 not 7pm!! I couldn't even go to work the next day. I found NJ helpers through Yelp very last minute as my husband and I were giving up moving our stuff on our own to the second floor walk up. Since we already moved most of our heavy furniture, all that left were about 60 boxes and ikea furniture pieces. But it was about 100 degree outside(feeling like 105 degrees) and very humid. Also, my left shoulder and right ankle got hurt, we decided to find a help. Ricky answered his phone immediately and got back to me promptly about availability and gave me a quote for 2 guys for 2 hours. It was a reasonable rate considering it was the hottest day of my life. I used Ricky before for my last move about 2 years ago. Ricky was very responsive and I was able to have them move me on a Saturday morning from Morristown to Tewksbury. They let me know when they got there and moved me quickly, within 3 hours which included travel time! NJ Helpers (in the form of Ricky, two moving men, and a truck) moved us (2 bedroom apartment) last week. Pros: The two moving men were efficient and careful with our furniture. They took apart our bed on one end and fixed it up on the other, wrapped dressers and mattresses in plastic, and moved many boxes. They were courteous and respectful. Ricky stuck to the rate he quoted me and was scrupulous about start and end times. Cons: They came late. Ricky spent most of the time in the van due to illness so I can't speak to his moving abilities, just his organizing abilities. I would use them again for moving. read more

Ricky was able to accommodate a same day move when a competitor Pacman Mark who I hired 2 weeks prior and who boasted how reliable he was, was a no show. The inclement weather and getting a helper caused some time delays but Ricky stayed in contact the whole time. Both the seller and myself were impressed by how organized and meticulously every piece of furniture was wrapped carefully in blankets and shrink wrap to insure against damage. Lots of movers will offer you a FlatRate based on a conversation, however, they will always try to charge you more on the day of your move. Other movers will charge you by the hour and clearly drag their feet. Ricky will start the clock right in front of you and his team doesn't stop working until the job is done. I must admit I was a bit surprised at the quality of this move because after dealing with Ricky on the phone he seemed very attentive and responsible. First, the good things: Ricky gave me a good and reasonable price for a local move and the two movers completed the job very quickly ( a 1 bedroom apartment move) in under the expected time. That being said though, I didn't get confirmation of my move the night before until about 11:00pm, and on the day of the move they arrived 45 minutes late and didn't give me a call to let me know where they were, were not careful with my belongings- were dragging them on the floor and bumping them into walls at the moving facility, and importantly they did not bring enough wrapping supplies or blankets to cover up my furniture. Because of the lack of wrapping supplies, many of my pieces were uncovered (it was pouring rain) or wrapped once around in plastic wrap (why bother). While the movers themselves were friendly people and kept a positive attitude throughout the whole move, at the very end of the move before payment was due they reminded me that their "tip should be handed out individually". I was really taken by this and will probably not use this company again. read more
