I got a mailer in from O'Shea trucking and decided to give them an opportunity to give an estimate. I spoke to Michelle O'Shea who told me it was a family business and they help to move locally and long distance. She scheduled with Rick, her husband, to come provide an estimate. When Rick came to provide the estimate, he was informative, kind and thorough. He went to see all the rooms, attic and crawl space. I really appreciated that the owner himself came to do the estimate rather than the previous sales people I've dealt with at other companies. Michelle sent over the quote and I was able to secure my date with a deposit. Unfortunately, we had issues with our closing date and buyers and had to changed our previously scheduled moving date. Michelle was wondering and communicative as she accommodated our new date. She was able to set up a crew to help me move before we needed to be out of the house. I was so appreciative of all her efforts. The day of the move, Rick called me and informed me that the crew was on their way. Rick himself and 4 members of his team were there ready to work. They were efficient, they worked well together, communicated well and everything flowed. They did a walk through prior to the move to ensure what was being moved and packed everything up so well. When moving into the new space, they transported all the furniture and assembled them in their designated rooms. They put down runners throughout the house to ensure everything was safe and transported well. They asked questions and moved things where directed. Each person had a task - unloading, building, transporting and the family team really worked well together. I highly recommend O'Shea Trucking for your next move. They had seamlessly loaded the contents of my 650 square foot apartment including large/heavy fragile furniture with glass (8 foot tall dresser with mirror weighing 250 lbs, and 50 galloon reptile tank) in about 1 hour. We promptly left via car to meet them at our new address in Philly, and they arrived at exactly the same time as we did. They unloaded the truck in about an hour again, and helped partially unpack and put items in the proper places, especially the furniture that would have been hard for me to move on my own later. I will continue to use Piece of Cake, and have recommended to several friends over the years that I have been using them. It was quick working with the customer support team initially to quote the move, make payment, and on COIs and confirmation. When we move again in a couple years Piece of Cake will be the only mover I call. My recommendation to others considering the service, be transparent and honest about the contents of your move, especially items requiring extra protection even if there is an additional fee involved. There were no surprise add-ons in my move because we carefully selected every single item that would be included in our move early on in the process, and made sure to reply in detail to the follow up emails regarding insurance, access to the apartments (stairs vs elevator, reserved elevator, etc.), and so on move-in day everything went off without a hitch. Based on my estimates of the time the job would take, they were much cheaper than any of the 5 other companies we got quotes from. In the end though, the job did take longer than expected. They used three employees and a large truck. They provided blankets, plastic wrap, and tape to properly protect all items for transport. If they noticed any preexisting damage on the furniture, they notified us promptly so we were aware. Initially, they worked quite efficiently, but began to slow down during the second half of pick-up. What I thought would take about 4 hours ended up being a 6 hour job, including a 45 minute drive to the new place. They still came in cheaper than the next best quote we were considering, but not by much. When they finished the move, they left a mountain of tape, plastic, and cardboard, which they supplied, in our hallway. We thought they would clean it up before leaving, but we were left with that task, which was disappointing. They require a $50 + tax deposit to reserve a move. You pay the balance after all the work is done. They offer a discount if you pay in cash. Overall, they were professional and moving is grueling work so I have no major complaints, other than the debris they left behind. But be mindful that the time-based quote may add up, so be prepared to spend more than you might anticipate.

I price-compared a ton of NYC moving companies and J & G gave me a competitive moving quote. Additionally, the building I was moving into required a certificate of insurance (COI) and J & G was able to offer it for me for free. A lot of other companies charge for this. Before moving, I communicated with them via email and they always responded promptly and were very clear about what their moving package included. The day of the move, they called and asked if it was okay if they came an hour early. They were very communicative with me during the whole move. The lead guy (forgot his name!) assessed how many things I had and then discussed with the other 2 men on how to efficiently approach the move. The 3 men were over 6' tall and strong, and they were able to finish my whole move in a little more than 1 hr! I did not have anything that was easily breakable but the men treated my things with care. They provided blanket and shrink wrapping for all of my furniture. Everything was loaded up into their truck very quickly. These guys wasted no time. When I arrived at my new apartment building, they had already started unloading my things. I had my boxes labeled with what was inside (i.e., kitchen supplies, shoes, jackets) and they actually placed each box in the corresponding room. Best of all, there were no hidden fees. They ended up not charging me a processing fee that was included in the quote and gave me $40 off my quoted price. The movers were so friendly, communicative and professional, I will definitely be using J & G Moving again! I also wanted to note that on the day of my move, the street I was moving from was blocked due to construction. J & G movers did not complain or make any mention of that until I had stepped outside of my apartment building and noticed it. On the day of our move, the crew arrived clearly high, reeking of weed-- and the smell lingered the entire day. They moved painfully slow; what should have been a 4-hour job turned into 7. They even disappeared for an hour between leaving our old home and arriving at the new one. When they finally showed up, the smell was overwhelming. They left dirty handprints all over our walls, broke several items without saying a word, and showed zero professionalism. When I contacted the company to file a complaint, the general manager was rude, dismissive, argumentative and unprofessional. He accused me of "trying to squeeze him for money" -- even though I only mentioned reimbursement for the broken item. He spoke to me condescendingly and wouldn't even let me finish a sentence. If I were the owner, I'd be embarrassed to have someone like that representing my business. The manager offered a $150 refund (out of a nearly $1,800 bill), claiming it was "out of the kindness of his heart." When the paperwork arrived, it was for less than what he promised. I called to correct it and never heard back. This company is unreliable, unprofessional, and dishonest. Save yourself the stress and choose a reputable moving company.
