Just go. Read this review after you come back. Seriously. I'll wait…read more Thanks for coming back! Not that I have to tell YOU this, but Bobiam is located upstairs over Williams Bar in Uptown and well marked with a bold awning. The idea behind Bobiam is to showcase the minds and ideas of young artists. We had the good fortune of meeting Dialyn while we were in the store - the beautifully humble and adorable artist who had actually hand-knitted the hat I was so eager to purchase and place on the head of our new niece. Her hats were inventive and amusing creations of exceptional quality, as were all of the products that we cooed over while perusing every square inch of the store. There are gifts of all types and price points - from $8 jewelry to $50 hoodies. There are phone covers printed with custom art for some of the newer models, including iPhone and Samsung Galaxy. You can find clothes for babies, youth and adults, as well as canvas art, ear cuffs and sun hats. A portion of the sale goes "back in to the power of creative expression" (not sure what that means), a portion goes to Free Arts Minnesota and a portion to the young artist. Mind you, only $1 goes back to the artist...an amount that irks me a bit considering some of their wares sporting their amazing creations can run upwards of $50...but at least it's something. The store is bright and airy and even the mural on the outside of the store was designed by one of their artists! You can't help but be completely absorbed by the inspiration these kids exhibit. The owners are very passionate about their cause - at every turn in the store, Carla has information to provide about the artist, the process and the product. It's an honor to purchase a work of art that supports the talent of these local kids and I'm excited to go back and see what else they have in store.

I live in LA so I've never been to the store but this is regarding an online purchase…read more I bought an item off their website and finally got the package and was so excited but once I picked it up I knew something was wrong.. it was too light. Once I opened it, it was EMPTY. They used a small USPS box but did not tape the sides of the box thus making it easy for a USPS employee to open the box and take the item. I know there's a sticky edge to close the box but WHY wouldn't you tape the sides of the box to make it super secured?! Especially knowing that it was during the holidays and package thieves are on the rise. I live in a super secured building and we have parcel lockers so it definitely happened while in transit because I picked up the box as soon as I got a text saying it was delivered. I contacted them and they said it was out of their hands once it leaves their facility and to file a claim with USPS.. THEY TOO CAN FILE THE CLAIM AND RE-SEND MY ITEM. What kind of customer service is this? As a business owner myself, I would have shipped one out ASAP and file a claim, if my claim was denied, I would just write it off as a loss. But this store doesn't give a crap. I even tried to buy another one off them and now they're out of stock? Smh. I ended up buying the same item somewhere else.

Disappointed. Call me "old school" but greeting me when I walk in the door goes a long way. Hey,…read moreeven an acknowledgment! We walked in the door, to a shop devoid of any other customers, and then were completely ignored by 2 salespeople who were obviously in a personal conversation about something more important than us. I have worked retail for over 10 years and know the importance of professionalism and good customer service and it starts with the basics. Needless to say, our wallets never left our pockets. We marched over to Martin Fitzpatrick and were blown away by not only their product, but the kindness and politeness given to us by their staff

(What can I say? My fiance is a classy man who describes his look as "artfully disheveled." We all have our strengths.) In addition the the mostly American-made and Nordic clothing, they have some fun accessories for biking (leather 6-pack holder that I got my fiance for his birthday one year), camping (HOODED WALKING SLEEPING BAG SUIT?!?!) and some great home decor items like a woolen badger face pillow that I want in my house really badly. Also, the Faribault Woolen Mills blankets. Gimme. Dem. Blankets.

Um...WHOA?! I've…read moreheard about this store from friends before, but thought it was just a fancy menswear store. Well boy, was I wrong. I stopped in a few days before Christmas, and I actually had a few things yet I wanted to get my grandpa, so this worked out great. At the entrance - and throughout the store - I found free hot coffee, tea, refreshments, cookies, and treats. Maybe it's just a holiday thing but I loved the hospitality. The space is HUGE - so much more than clothes! I had no idea. They have: - books and coffee table books - a whole room dedicated to perfume/cologne and scents - a whole area for cocktail-related gifts - home decor, tableware, and interior decor items - kitschy smaller giftables that were organized by theme (work/office, hosting, etc.) - menswear and womenswear - jewelry - candles - and so much more! I genuinely believe you can walk in here and be sure to find something for anyone on your gifting list. The service was incredible: lots of welcomes and greetings, and staff there to help you if you need it. Oh, they even have a room you can reserve while shopping?! FANCY!

However, a close friend is diving in for his third, and I applaud his happiness. I won't wear a tuxedo, but I needed to have a suit made that would make the bride and the 400 attendees comfortable. The bride already told me not to don a fedora or pink sneakers, although I wanted to. Todd Fliginger at Martin Patrick took me under his wing. Todd is amazingly kind, helpful, and knowledgeable. He sent swatches to Milwaukee before we moved to Minneapolis. Tailors were brought in, especially the master tailor Robert, not only to measure, but also to have me try on different designers' pieces to see what would fit well. I am a difficult fit, with a body more like a penguin than a human. That's what a custom tailor in NYC told me. However, I don't nosh on Krill. Todd and Robert took hours to get a correct fit and guaranteed that I would look good. Todd even saved me several hundred dollars off the original quote. ADDENDUM: My suit arrived, and it looked amazing. A few alterations are required to ensure a perfect fit, but that's it. I had a suit made on Savile Row in London that cost more than three times this suit's price, and it did not fit as well. This store should be on every list of Minneapolis's sightseeing highlights. It is akin to a design museum. Everything at Martin Patrick--furniture and furnishings--is for sale, and they're all amazing! Martin Patrick 3 is down-to-earth sophistication, with a NYC or Parisian vibe. Yet, the staff is Midwest empathetic. It is a Minneapolis treasure, as is Todd. I might not be looking forward to this wedding, but at least I know I will look my best.

But now "Things Done Changed." (Biggie reference.) Within the last couple years, a handful of new spots have opened up in Minneapolis alone! Phenom is refreshing with its dope two room setup, wooden floors, and tees that hang from an automated and revolving rack above. (Like what drycleaners have.) They also carry a small selection of sneaker classics like Nike Air Maxes, Jordans, and New Balances (the non-Grandpa kind), some interesting caps (both snapback and fitted), and original sweatshirts I've never really seen online. I'm not really a fan of their selection, but I can see how some peeps dig it. Aside from the gear, the customer service could be better. I saw one Nike Air Max and got a staff member to get it in my size. I found that it didn't fit and tried chatting with him a bit. He seemed disinterested in trying to sell me anything and left to talk to the shorty at the front of the store. At other boutiques, the staff usually tries to hustle me. Kinda surprised. Again, I love Phenom's dope space and can appreciate their gear, but the customer service could be better.

I still wanted to browse and find something to take home, I'm not sure if I missed the memo for sizing on tops but it was hard to know which section I should be looking in. There were some great finds in there, but also pretty expensive. Previous reviews mentioning prices seem to be several years old so keep in mind that you'll be spending a lot depending on what you're looking for. I will say- if vintage is your style and you're open to what you wear this would be a good stop. If you're a little more picky and looking to save some money this may not be the best option.
