I wandered in as a window shopper and ended up spending quite a chunk of time looking around at all…read morethe pretty fashions. They had a full sale rack in the back with past-season items, great sun dresses for summer and an absolutely gorgeous lacy yellow top that I wanted to take home with me right that minute. It reminded me of a slightly pricier St. Paul version of Parc Boutique, which is a real compliment from me since I love that place. The merchandise seems to be mixed between well-made threads and those less sturdy items that you see at a lot of boutiques. I saw a lot more of the well-made variety at Karma, which was reflected in the higher prices but I'm cool with that when the quality/style is solid. The only thing that wasn't great is that I didn't really have any interaction with the person working. In small shops it's a little awkward not to at least recognize another human's presence, but I didn't actually need any assistance so it wasn't quite as awkward as usual.

Karma is the perfect place to shop if you are looking for classier, well made, clothes and jewels…read more This ain't no Forever 21. Some of the designers they carry are even local! Karma has the perfect young vibe that was lacking Grand Avenue for so long. They carry unique and adorable brands that are perfect for 20 somethings. I have drooled over many a purse and dress at Karma but the set back is I just can't afford it there. Most things are priced at $80+ and I am just not financially there yet, although I wish I were every time I head in the shop. Your best bet with Karma is to go for the jewels, they are handmade by locals and even employees of Karma, they are also very reasonably priced. If you have the money, head to Karma and go crazy on some merch;and if you don't, head to Karma just to ogle. Tip-Look for the $10 Jewelry Tree-full of great steals!

Heimie's Haberdashery - Paying attention to what Shamus is teaching him.

"They come runnin' just as fast as they can, 'cause every girl crazy 'bout a sharp-dressed man." ZZ…read moreTop One day while I was negotiating a treacherous snow barrier between the street and the sidewalk outside of Heimie's Haberdashery, a most dashingly dressed employee rushed out to save the day, escorting me over the snow pile. I guess my questionable mountaineering skills must have made him nervous! Heimie's hero was just the Sherpa guide I needed for my mini-Everest expedition. I can't thank him enough for helping, especially since he wasn't even wearing any winter gear...just his fancy shmancy suit. Heimie's snowbank conqueror was so impeccably dressed that I'm sold on purchasing a bow tie here for my six-year-old nephew very soon. He will be going on his first official chaperoned ice cream date with a young lady determined to marry him in the future, and he specifically requested a bow tie for the event. Clearly there is a lot at stake for this very serious date, so he will need a dapper tie that is sure to impress! No pressure, Heimie's, no pressure.

Had my business trip unexpectedly extended so needed a few work items. This store is very close to…read morethe St Paul hotel so extremely convenient. Yes, it's a bit old school. You can get a straight razor shave or a traditional men's fedora. With a bit of notice, they can tailor clothes or fix a torn shirt/suit. I think they even sell cigars. I spent about 30 mins looking at shirts/pants/ties (!!!), got a few recommendations, and made my purchases. Heimie's has a good selection of high quality men's clothing at reasonable prices. The staff could not possibly have been nicer. It's unlikely I'll ever need to come back but I wouldn't hesitate to do so.
