I've tried this Chinese restaurant a few times, hoping that the next time will be better, but it's not. Their hot and sour soup is just the liquid, no other solid ingredients. Consistent, tasty, hot, well seasoned Chinese food. The establishment is designed for mostly carry out, although there are some places to eat. Our dishes have included Teriyaki chicken sticks, General Tso's, sesame chicken, and Happy Family. All were very satisfying. We asked for the Tso's to be spicy and it was delicious. The teriyaki was succulent, hot, juicy, and perfectly seasoned with a very nice sear. If you like spicy soup, try the hot and sour... yum. For take out, I recommend this establishment. read more

I would give this place anywhere from 1-5 stars depending on the dish. I always order through DoorDash and can't speak to their customer service, but I have called and discussed allergies, and they were more helpful than other restaurants in town. 5* The steamed dumplings, lo mein, fried rice, egg rolls, etc are all SO good. Always hot, perfectly cooked and seasoned. 1* The cashew chicken had almost NO chicken or cashews. All huge, chunky vegetables (celery and carrots. ) WAY too many of them for the high cost of the meal. I'm not sure if the chicken was even good, I was to mad that I couldn't even see any in the dish. The orange chicken was a good portion and my kids seemed to enjoy it. I'm just baffled at the huge difference in the items. Now that we know what to order, we have ordered from here several times and really love it. I didn't realize how delicious No 1 China was, until I left town and ordered from elsewhere that was 'the best in town' there. It didn't even compare. I do wish they gave us fortune cookies, and I'd love it if I could try the cashew chicken again without all the cheap fillers. But definitely order their delicious lo mein!!!! read more

I ordered from here for pick up. When I arrived home my boyfriends general tso chicken was sufficient, but my kung pao chicken had 2 pieces of chicken and the rest was celery and peanuts. I called the restaurant and explained how upset I was with the $12 order of celery and peanuts and requested an exchange for general tso. I had to them drive 20 minutes back to the restaurant. When I arrived they tried to charge me again for the spring roll I already paid for with my order (I don't eat pork). A week later I noticed my credit card statement was $10 more than what my order was. They took it upon themselves to give a $10 tip and steal from me. Despite the issues I had with my order I will never eat nor recommend a restaurant which will edit their receipts and charge the customer for their poor services. read more

I DISCOVERED NO. 1 CHINA WHEN DELIVERY OPENED UP AFTER COVID HIT. I have ordered there 3 times since April 2020, I just haven't been able to post a review each time. The last order was in early September 2020. I used to eat nothing but China Wok just because they are nearby and used to deliver. I WILL NOT EAT THERE EVER AGAIN! No, 1 China sent my orders correctly, still hot enough to burn my fingers, and the General Tso's was crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside! The prices were a tiny bit higher, but they are WELL WORTH IT!! I think they are about 7 miles from me one way and were still a quick delivery. I order extra to share with the nursing staff and they love it as well! I've converted many people... it must be good management since the pandemic, I never have a complaint! read more

WONDERFUL Subgum Wanton!!!!!!!! Nothing over cooked, very flavorful, and lots of it. The wontons were a treat that came with the dish along with a side of rice. The shrimp in the dish a good size and it was a generous portion. We ordered the steamed dumplings which were amazing. I see on Yelp they only have 3 stars but those low ratings from as far back as 2014 are averaged in. I suspect there have been a lot of changes for the better since then. The Crab Rangoons crabmeat was not fresh....old crab meat. Had to spit out. The General Tau Chicken, made with dark chicken was just not palatable. Threw it out. I've been here twice, once to eat in and once to take out. The sesame chicken is good. The beef and broccoli is just average. They seem to cook everything fresh after it is ordered. Better than the other Chinese places in the area, but not great. It's nice to grab some Chinese food when going to the HT grocery store once in a while. read more

I LOVE Chinese food. So much that when I mistyped "I live Chinese food" I almost left it! I came from an area where good Chinese food abounds. Unfortunately, despite the number of Chinese restaurants in the area, there isn't much in the way of good Chinese food around. I've tried every place but one (maybe next week?) and some of it was just bad and some was actually inedible. I keep ending up back at No. 1 China. It's in a small row of shops off to the side in the Harris Teeter parking lot on Mill Creek near the airport traffic circle. Just a small storefront, basically, with a handful of tables, nothing special about the location itself. It's mostly takeout. The food is good, though. Really good, when compared to what's on offer everywhere else. It's always hot, freshly prepared, not skimpy and very tasty. I'm a bit picky about the sauces, etc, and they seem to have gotten those right. The fried rice that comes with lunch or combination dinners, if you choose it over steamed rice, is flavorful and has identifiable pieces of pork in it, not just little dark flecks that you assume are pork. I usually order closer to closing and there are large pieces of pork. I don't know if that's because of timing because it's end of the day or if it's just how they serve it. I have tasted many of the dishes (some of my own and some ordered by others) and have never been disappointed by anything. Actually, the one dish I had two years ago that I didn't like was the General Tso's Chicken. I found it bland and the sauce was oddly ketchupy tasting. I'm happy to say I decided to give it another try tonight and it was very good. Sauce was correct and spice was present and pleasant - enough kick to be noticeable and not so much as to be too much for someone ordering a dish marked to be spicy. They have the best Steamed Dumplings in the area BY FAR! If you've had them elsewhere and think you don't like them, try them here. The dough is thin and translucent as it should be and the filling is tasty - no great big lumps of flavorless dough here! And the sauce for dipping is good. Also very good are the Lo Mein (chicken or, my favorite, house special), Sesame Shrimp (or Gen'l Tso's shrimp if you like a little spice), and Singapore Mei Fun. Also good is the Pepper Steak and both the Beef and the Chicken in Garlic Sauce. I have never had anything but friendly, polite service from any of the employees. Some speak limited English, I think, so perhaps that has led to the couple of service snafus in the other ratings? I give and get big smiles and pleasantries and my special requests (like my no broccoli with Gen'l Tso's request tonight or extra sauce with my dumplings) are always honored. When they first opened everything was delicious and fresh and I was excited about having a go to Chinese restaurant. Unfortunately since a few months after opening food and service has fell off. They never stick to the hours posted..you never know of they are open or closed until you make the trip and generally the open sign is on and they turn you away saying they are closed after 9 although they are listed to be open. read more

i have lived and traveled many different places and have tried all types of chinese food, both expensive restaurants and normal priced take out. this place uses quality ingredients and all the food is cooked fresh when you order it. all other take out joints i have ordered from over the past 20 years or so aren't even close to the quality of this place. most other places give you like 3 broccoli in your general tso's, this has heaps of fresh vegies. same with the mongolian beef, it had a plentiful amount of quality mushrooms, snow peas, baby corn and all the other and the meat is very tender. i can highly recommend this place, the quality for the price you pay is well worth it. read more

Made my order exactly as I asked for it and it was out quickly. The cashier woman was really nice as well and also very attractive. Order took less than five minutes to get in and start making it. Everything tasted fresh and was very hot, but not enough to burn me or anything. I would give five stars, if they only had those much desired water chestnuts. read more
