I have to say, I'm not usually easy to impress, but Russ scores FIVE BIG STARS from me. We moved here in May from the east coast and soon found out that our beautiful pool had been marginally maintained and needed to be completely drained in order to prevent an outright algae bloom. The Total Dissolved Solids were above 6,200 and the Cyanuric Acid was at 180 ppm. The problem was there is no main drain clean out in our yard...the City told us where it should be, but after digging holes everywhere (and chopping the sprinkler lines up in the process) we had all but given up. We met Russ at the Maricopa Home and Garden Show at West World, and he explained how his unique process works. The cost was in- line with what we expected to pay for draining and filling, and far less than hiring a plumber to find our main drain and install a proper clean out, so we called him the next day. I purposefully waited six weeks before writing this review. Like any consumer I weighed my options before calling this company. I had two separate employees at a large retail pool supply outlet tell me that I should not use this company and that I should drain my pool like I've done in the past. They said that traditional draining was less expensive and easier. I went ahead and called No Drainer and set an appointment. Surprisingly, they were able to come out in just a few days. The service was really easy. They parked their trailer and ran two lines to my pool ... one in, one out. It ran all night and in the morning my water was filtered and no longer full of the negative elements that necessitate draining. Russ then walked me through the process of getting my pool properly balanced. His follow up was impressive. This incurred a very small cost, especially compared to the $250 in chemicals that the retail pool company wanted to sell me. Now I realize why they wanted me to drain and fill the old way. Six weeks later and my pool has never looked (or felt) better. The water is immaculate and properly balanced. Oh and I did not dump 15,000 of water in the sewer in the midst of a historical drought. We just bought our home, and after testing the water at Leslie's (yeah, we know), they recommended draining the pool and refilling to reduce the total hardness and dissolved solids. While looking for pool services, my wife came across an ad for Russ and his No Drainer water purification service. What luck! We can't say enough about what a nice human being Russ is, and just what a difference his service made to the quality of our pool water - WITHOUT DRAINING THE POOL! Environmentally friendly, and it only took a few short hours overnight while we slept. If you're told to drain your pool, DON'T. Couldn't miss an opportunity to share my experience with Russ and No Drainer. Right from the outset, I wanted to find a better way to maintain my pool without completely emptying and refilling. Have a 11,000 gal salt water pool that I was having a hard time balancing the chemicals due to a pool store selling me products with added CYA that substantially raised my CYA and Calcium, needless to say, I either drain the whole pool or do water purification. I decided on the purification route with No Drainer. So I called and talked to Russ who was very knowledgeable and explained the process. Made an appointment for him to come out, took about 12 hours after setup to refresh my pool water to a better state than at initial startup 2 yrs ago. He is able to not only check progress remotely but also called me to let me know how things were going.My water is crystal clear now and I can add the balancing chemicals with confidence that I can now keep them in line. Being from the Midwest, I never experienced balancing problems as I was on well water, balancing was a breeze the last 10 yrs. Water in PHX is high in calcium and the pool installers never really did the balancing as the pump was not hooked up immediately after installation. We have had some issues with our water chemistry this summer. Due to the high TDS and Calcium, and CYA, it needed to be drained, but we couldn't in summer due to possibly damaging the pool from the extreme heat. I got tired of shocking the pool every day to maintain proper chlorine levels and agae control. I found Russ on google and read about his company. I proceeded with caution, but after speaking with Russ, I felt this was a great option to fix our pool water. We set an appointment with Russ the following Friday afternoon. His system ran around 10-11 hours purifying my water like my house R/O system does with our drinking water. Our pool was definitely at the point of needing work done. My kids and grandkids were ready for the summer of swimming and I needed to get the pool balanced so we could all enjoy it. My pool was out of wack from five years of using chlorine tablets. My CYAs were off the chart and although the chlorine read in the ideal range it was no longer effective at clearing the green color it had become. As I have a well, I was looking for an alternative to draining and refilling. Fortunately, I looked into reverse osmosis and found Russ. He was a pleasure to deal with and armed me with a wealth of pool care knowledge. The reverse osmosis transformed my pool into like new condition with crystal clear perfect water. When done, Russ also balanced my pool with the right chemicals and was available for follow up. Amazing what the R/O system can do in 1/2 a day. Our pool had very high total dissolved solids, nitrates and calcium hardness and we decided to use reverse osmosis filtration instead of drain and replace. We contacted 2 companies and went with this company for availability and competitive pricing. Additionally, Rus the proprietor is very professional, prompt, explains everything before, during and even after the process. Overall great guy unusually passionate about his job and environmental (water conservation) issues. After the 15 hour filtration, pool looked great, and chemical testing showed great results. Rus adjusts the pool after filtration and guides you through additional adjustments days after the filtration. My pools water was so far out of balance that it was recommended to completely drain the pool and refill. I asked my pool center for an alternative method from draining. His quote was very reasonable for this service and he was able to get me on the calendar within a couple weeks of agreeing to do this service. Russ was on time, very friendly, and explained the process and results in an informative manner. After about 12 hours the pool water cleaning process was complete. Our Total Dissolved Solids were off the charts and we needed to drain our pool to correct the problem. It's not advisable to drain your pool in the summer. Thank goodness we found No Drainer! I have a rather large swimming pool and was dreading to drain it but knew I needed too. So I thought would research this solution and I'm glad I did. Russ came out to give me a quote before hand and the cost of this service was minimally more than doing the whole process myself plus the water is much more purified than the tap water that comes out of the hose. Russ has a lot of knowledge about water he's like a scientist and does a much more in-depth analysis on your pool than getting it tested at Lesley's. I have used Russ' No Drainer services three times. As others have said, he is very professional and takes lots of time to understand your concerns and explain the science behind his system. He hooks up his equipment, starts the filtering process, and after a few hours you will have the cleanest, softest water that's ever been in your pool.
