The owner of this company, Rod, got right back to me within minutes. I was a little panicked because my pool wasn't operating properly and I was about to have a large pool party. Despite the fact it was after hours (evening before the party), Rod actually spent 20 minutes with me via FaceTime to diagnose the problem, assist me with repairing a valve and priming a pump. He provided me with specific instructions and he was able to get everything working again all via FaceTime. HE DIDNT CHARGE ME ANYTHING! He was sympathetic to my time critical situation, and he genuinely wanted to be helpful. He would not accept any money despite my insistence. You just don't see this type of authentic integrity anymore. Excellent work ethic, extremely knowledgeable, quick response, and he didn't feel right charging me simply because he wasn't there in person. The FaceTime instruction was extremely educational and his thorough step-by-step guidance was spot on. He was very patient with me. Other companies said it would be $475 just to come out and take a look. This is the only company I will use for all my future pool service needs. Hard to find people like Rod these days. I had questions and responded to texts I received from multiple phone numbers but was completely ignored. Don't waste your time with this company. I hate to rain on a parade, but have had bad experiences with this business. Particularly bad is the owner Rod Zervakos. Only interested in money. Does not care if the repair was done right or wrong. Sends me 4 late notices in one week over payment and I told him before I got the first one that the repair needed to be finished, then I would pay him. Simply doesn't care and sends them anyhow. The tech was a decent guy and completed most of the work but disappeared without finishing and didn't even say goodbye. I had told him of the need to complete things not 5 minutes earlier. So I began communicating with Rod. I simply tell him that the job isn't complete and someone needs to come out to finish. It was like getting blood from a turnip. All kinds of excuses and reasons why this can't be done. I ultimately called out someone else to finish. If you are an idiot about pools, this company is for you. If you pay for a job not complete or done wrong (It was initially done wrong but corrected), this company is for you. If you merely want the job done right and completed, and don't want to pay until it is done right or completed, this is not the company for you. read more

Switched to Island Life pools a few years ago after previous company's staff would not consistently show up. Or if they did, they do about 4 min of work and leave. Using Island Life has been night and day experience. They are punctual, always communicative and go out of their way to explain. We have company coming to stay the weekend so were looking forward to using our pool only to discover that our heater wasn't working. We have been using Island Life Pools and Spas to keep our water blue for the past few years. Rod initially set us up and about a year ago Brian became our servicer. Brian seems to do a great job and is often in and out in minutes. He is courteous and polite and attends to any issues that come up. Really, hiring this company is a no-brainer if you want great service and timely contact when they notice an issue and fix it on the spot if possible. We have even had Rod come over to troubleshoot our robot cleaner and one of the motors, which he replaced for a fair price. In the military we call this type of professional efficiency and reach for excellence a "fire and forget". This relationship started well as they got our chemicals under control and got the water to be consistently clear. However they do not clean the pool at all. Visits are about 8 minutes in length and they do no vacuuming or sweeping. I have these folks on my Rental and they're so bad that even though I'm paying (a lot) for them monthly my tenants want them replaced immediately. They charge extra for everything and they don't tell you when obvious things need repair (tile, pop up heads, etc.) For $120 a month I'd expect at least average. To respond to the owner, our account is under my wife's name. We have been customers for 2+ years now but will cancel at the end of this billing cycle. My tenants clocked your pool attendant at 5 minutes total on property last Friday. We are clearly not getting any effort. read more

I do most of my own pool work, but in the last 6 months, I have had pipe leaks, priming issues, filter leak and pump motor blown. All of these items were well above my pay grade. I found Island Life Pools & Spas on Google and Yelp and have had them out 4 times now. First to do some pipe work (because the pump wasn't priming). The second to evaluate the filter leak (from a different pipe and then from the filter itself). The third time was to replace the filter. The fourth time was to replace a blown pump motor (the wiring got wet during the recent storms). Rod, Aaron and Steve are all very professional and knowledgeable. I spent the last two years, and thousands of dollars working with another pool company trying to maintain my pool. Last year, (2019) the pool was down for half the season due to issues with algae, even after replacing the pump and filter with top of the line equipment. I hired this pool company due to the 5 star rating that it had, sadly they were anything but 5 star. I continued using their services more out of miserable convenience then customer satisfaction due to my home being vacant during the majority of the time that I had them service my pool and spa and my living 60 miles away. I had a camera on the yard so I saw the lack of effort that was made during the servicing. There were many weeks that NOBODY serviced my pool and spa. The owner repeatedly told me that the service person was not able to fill the spa which did not have an automatic leveler on it because he was only at the house for a short time. He was right about the lack of time spent at my home because not once did anyone ever brush or scoop my pool or spa. The owner then 'made me' pay for a leveler that leaked all of the time and he told me it could not be fixed because the spa dropped so low without being filled so without much choice more money was given to the company. I would not have minded had the company been brushing and caring for the equipment as stated in the contract but if they would have brushed everything like they were supposed to, there would have been time to fill the spa. The spa was green most of the time and neither the spa or the pool ever looked clean and there was always debris in both. I could not check frequently enough on my home due to the 1.5 hr drive one way. The photos the company sent never captured what I would see if I followed within a an or or so of the service being done. The last straw was when the owner told my realtor that the spa was leaking and cost me the sale of my home. There was no leak other skimmer needed repair/replaced after we paid for a $350 leak test. Basic science AZ heat and open water surface area causes evaporation. The spa always required frequent water fills when it was hot out. My water bill was very inexpensive and my ground dry. Unless the service man flomy yard like he did several times when the rare shoddy effort was made to fill the spa. He forgot to turn the water off. All in all it was a nightmare but I hoped to sell the home sooner than I wound up doing so and did not want to start over with another company. Shame on me for not switching but I had many other things on my plate. To top it off after costing me the first sale, the owner had the nerve to ask me if the new owner wanted to continue service. Glad the home is sold and glad to no longer be dealing with this company, Wanted to add that O agree with Tyler's review below...there were many times that we had to reach out and ask for things to be checked with our equipment because my landscaper would contact me to tell me about leaks that he would find near or on equipment and then I would have to call Rod (owner) to inquire about the issue. Isn't part of the weekly service provided letting clients know if any issues are in need of repair. $120 per month for a less than 5 minute house call is ridiculous. We watched the serviceman on camera so can attest to the fact that his visits were so fast that there was no chance for anything other than throwing some chlorine tabs into the spa and pool and that was the extent of the service. read more
