super fun candle making experience! noir luxe is located in belltown, so it can be a little tough for finding parking. customer service was great, and nevaeh walked me and my friend through how to make our candles. we first chose our vessels (jars) and then passed different scents around to see which ones we liked. you can choose up to three scents to combine. im really happy with how my candle came out and it smells amazing. i created a lychee white tea bergamot candle. some notes - it smells suuuuper strong in there with so many scents going on that i started getting a headache (which isn't their fault) but you definitely have to step outside to really smell the scent you are creating. one note is the process itself can get a little messy, since they just have the bottles open for us to sniff. it got my hands quite oily; wondering if there's a better method for sniff test? overall really fun activity! read more

I've been here twice for a birthday party and always recommend to my community, so I obviously love them! I love that Noir is a Black and woman-owner business, that was birthed from Covid. The concept of candle making is an amazing way to spend a special occasion. I also enjoy their pre-made candles as well as the other products that they sell in collaboration with local creators, like the body oil that smells amazing! This review is solely for my most recent candle making experience. I brought my sister for her big 13th birthday, along with her 5 other friends. Their candle vessels start at $10 for a mini, so there are affordable options. They go through the same process every time, explaining how to sniff and pass each scent, record your favorites, and then get time to mix scents before pouring. Each time I've gone, there were different workers. The ones that were working this time around didn't seem like they wanted to be there and although they weren't rude, they also weren't exactly friendly or welcoming towards any of us. I'll be trying out the other candle making place next time but Noir still has a special place in my heart! read more

We had a good time at Noir Lux Candle bar! I feel one caveat was getting to the candle bar, and having somewhat of a difficult time/less accommodating experience after arriving two minutes past the apparent cut off time. It's definitely important to be on time and to be considerate of the candlemaking instructor's request, but it felt a bit abrupt and stressful the way the situation was approached. We were there for a friends birthday and some of us were visiting out of town. We were asked to come back and make the reservation for another day, but that couldn't happen since some of us were leaving the city in a day or so. It's our fault for being late, but it was also a bit disheartening to hear how strict there cut off time is. Makes sense though. And although we did have this late inconvenience, it was still a very fun time and we still were able to make our candles. I personally felt the way we went about sampling different essential oils was a bit chaotic. We sat in a row and had to sniff the oils one by one, writing down the name of the oils we like the best. But this was somewhat of a slow process, and some people needed more time smelling than others. So it made the oil sniffing a bit slower and backed up. To that point, when it was time to find your specific oils to create your unique scent, everything was clustered and difficult to locate. The only thing to identify the scents by were small labels on the front of the bottle. And they only had one scent per bottle, so I think the popular scents were often taken up and people had to wait. But we only had 10 minutes to sample them anyways. There was also a lack of history when candlemaking, I had felt like we would get a bit more background on the candles themselves and the process, but it felt a bit rushed and like we could make the candles from a kit ourselves. I did like how the staff poured our wax for us! That was very nice. And the scent and decorations inside were so nice!! For the price, it was a good time but I think the overall user experience could be elevated a bit more! read more

My friends and I recently participated in a candle-making class at Noir Lux Candle Bar ($15 + cost of vessel). The concept was really cute and it was a wholesome way to bond and get outside. I appreciated the variety of vessels they offered and how accommodating the staff was. However, the activity of smelling the oils was a bit chaotic and messy. The actual process of making the candles and finding the scents we liked was even more chaotic, especially since we had a very short amount of time before the next class needed to start. Unfortunately, I wasn't a huge fan of the candle I made because it didn't burn evenly and I ended up using it on a candle melter. On a positive note, I did appreciate the car freshener/oil diffuser I bought. It diffuses evenly and has allowed me to enjoy the oils better. Came here for a team bonding event and it was so much fun! The staff were super friendly and helpful and I liked that in the beginning we went around saying what scents we liked which helped the staff pick out certain oils for us to try from their vast library of oils. They have so many fun scents to try and it was a hard choice trying to pick out good pairings. Pricing is fair and it can depend on the size and style of the candle that you choose. The only areas that I think could be improved would be the labels that go on the oil bottles when we were sniffing them. Some of the labels are faded out probably due to the oil so it was quite hard to make out some of the names on the bottle. Another thing was that when I got my candle after it was done curing, there was wax drips on the side of the container and the top of the candle was not smooth. In terms of presentation, it would have been nice if the sides of the candle jar was wiped and not dried with the spilled wax. And it would have been nice to see the candle surface smooth. My gal pals insisted we come to Noir Lux to make our own personal candles for my birthday. It was a great recommendation. This business is black women owned - WOOT! I was blown away by how immaculate the place was, and all the good music playing. Located on Warren Pl S/ Denny Way, you will need to find street parking or a garage nearby. The ladies greet you as you walk through the door and confirm your appointment. They will provide instructions on how to start your session while we wait for the rest of the group to arrive. You start off by choosing your vessel(s) you want and choose a spot to sit at the table. Vessels range from about $20/ea and up. Each spot at the table will have a beautiful tray with everything you will need to create your candle(s). They carry about 100 scents to choose from during your session, along with coffee beans, hand sanitizer, and paper towels on the table. I really enjoyed their pineapple sage scent. After you've filled your vessels with oils and wax, the ladies will take your candles and set them aside for you to come back and pick up in an hour or two. If you don't have the time to wait, no problem. They can ship it to your home for a flat fee. My only con was that the oils in the bottle were a bit messy. Maybe gloves could be a good addition to provide on the trays for everyone. DO NOT RUB YOUR EYES. They will burn, so be cautious. We came back after an hour and a half to check on their retail store next door and grab our finished products. They have ready-made candles with super cool names, and our candles came out great! Don't forget to snap a photo behind their gorgeous backdrop and tip the ladies. They do a wonderful job. I have a friend who is obsessed with some oil I bought in San Diego and they looking up the notes for her and helped her create a candle in that scent! Just SOo helpful! So, the class is about an hour. You have to pre-sign up online and it's only $10! You pick from a plethora of jars (if you bring your Noir Lux jar back to refill you get a discount). I did the refill this time, I refilled four jars haha. This is how OBSESSED I am with making my own candles! They have over 150 scents to pick from, they help you start to finish. Now the place is beautiful inside and smells so lovely. It's so calm and welcoming. Like if you died and went to heaven, I want it to smell like that! Lol It takes about an hour or two for your candles to dry so you can visit the few shops around including their shop next door with premade candles and other other items from Black Owned Small Businesses. We got to pick the vessel, mix-and-match different scents and watch our candles come to life! Thought this would be a fun mid-winter break family activity for our teenager and mid-20's daughters & it turned out perfectly. Noir Lux' beautiful little studio is situated on a side street between Denny & First avenue. We had no trouble finding street parking. First, we picked our vessel from a nice selection ranging in size, color, and material. Then, we prepped our wick and selected our personal scent from the many available. Colina offered helpful tips to help narrow down the options as well as to create our perfect blend. Then it was time to pour, design our label/name our candle, & let it cure! The candle needs to cure for about an hour before you can take it home, so I definitely recommend doing some research ahead of time of where you want to grab a drink or snack while you wait. We popped over to Plaza Garibaldi on the other side of Denny for Margaritas & Nachos. Also, don't forget to check out their retail section which features a number of black and brown artists and makers. What a fun experience! When I found out about Noir Lux, I roped my friend into trying this out with me and I have no regrets. Their space is gorgeous and yes, everything is Instagram-worthy, especially their "Too lit to quit" wall. It is a women-run business and the owner's daughter, who just started working here, led the candle-making experience. When you arrive, you are instructed to pick out a vessel (container for your candle) at the vessel wall. The vessels range from votives to large jars and even multiple wick vessels. I chose two gorgeous large vessels ($45 each), one was a pretty iridescent pink and the other a double-walled pink vessel (note: double-walled took a lot longer to cure). Next, you set the wooden wick into the vessel. And the fun part - choosing your scent! You can give them a scent profile (fruity, floral, earthy, etc.) and they'll make suggestions for you or you can smell every scent which is basically what everyone did. Once you pick your scent, they pour the wax into the vessel and you mix in the scent and mix mix mix until voila, you made a candle and are now an official chandler! You can have the candle mailed to you or come back in 1-2 hours after the candle has set to take home. Did I spoil the experience by divulging the process, I hope not. I 1,000,000,000% recommend Noir Lux for your next fun experience. I will be back... after posting photos on IG, friends are requesting I make and mail candles to them. Came here for something to do with my aunt & my cousin during our visit in Seattle. I was a little disappointed with the class as it was pretty basic. Pick your candle holder, stick the wick in, smell all of the oils, they poured soy wax into the holder, you pour the oil in & mix it and that was it.... No cute design, no adding anything to the candle... just basic. Candle making is simple (i get it), but I was hoping for more. I guess i should've done my research before sporadically visiting. On a positive note, the staff was super nice & friendly. I was not going to write a review, but i finally decided to light this candle that i made... come to find out that it doesn't stay lit!! The candle is essentially useless for me as i can't get the wick to stay burning... i'm very disappointed. read more

This is a really niche market and quite a nice niche. I have never attended the candle-making workshops, but have seen some in action when I arrived to pick up orders online. I have several times made successful online orders, taking advantage of holiday sales, for special gifts for people and then picked up in person. I had just missed the sale the first time, but they put in free little candles instead, allowing me to give another special gift. Once you get the hang of using the online features, it is a really nice way to buy. The people in the store were friendly to me and the doggie I was with each time I picked up my purchases. read more

The employee on site didn't seem to have a ton of knowledge on how candle pouring works. I've done this at different shops before and this was by far my worst experience. Their scents are already too mixed together. One of their scents could be a candle. The fun part is finding scents that work together and when the scents are already mixed it becomes overkill. The guy working there wasn't able to tell us what the burn times were for each vessel. I know from previous experience that you need to pour the hot wax and immediately dump the oils and start stirring. I was still working on my oils and he went to pour the wax and I said "oh please don't pour it yet because I'm not done with my oils" he said "it's fine" and poured it anyways. My partner was already done with his oils so he could pour it into the wax right away. I ended up with air bubbles in my candle but he did not. I've never had air bubbles in my candle when making them. When we went to pick up the candles I said "wait two weeks before burning right?" And he said "no you can burn it right now" and so against my better judgement I burned it a couple days later and the scent was not strong at all. He also wasn't able to provide any guidance on best practices with scent pairing. He was frustrated because he expected us to just dump equal parts of each oil into the shot glass (sorry I can't remember what it's called). I was taught at other candle bars how to find the perfect proportion of each oil to get the scent you like so I did it the way I was taught in the past. This took too long for him which is why I think he rushed my candle pouring. Overall, wouldn't pay to come back because there's way better candle bars in the area. read more

I chose the most beautiful metal candle canister and when I got my candle it looked tarnished wax had been spilled down the sides and on top of the can the inside of the bag was coated in wax the candle canister had dried in a puddle of wax on the place card and bottom of the bag. I am totally unsatisfied with how my candle came back to me. This candle bar location is such a vibe. The decor is on point and the candle pour experience is fun and unique. When you enter in the facility you are welcomed by the staff who then escorts you to the large selection of candle vessels. After picking out the vessel the pouring session starts! This is when the fun begins! You get to smell an extensive amount oils and eventually pair them with up to creat your own unique scent. They play R&B JAMS throughout the session at the perfect volume. The staff is sooo nice and informative. You can also rent out the space for non candle pouring activities. They also have a retail store next door that sells pre made candles and other black owned items ( adult coloring books, BBQ sauce, greeting cards, etc). The candles are very fragrant and the aroma can be smelled without burning the candle. This was such a fun experience that I literally booked another pouring session two weeks after my initial visit! Had a great time!
