Decent selection, but then again this was the only flag shop I could find in New Orleans. The only reason I'm not rating them a two is because they sell the Louisiana Secession flag so kudos to them for that. Why not 4 or 5? To be honest, the prices were kinda outrageous. 50 dollars for a nylon flag? I could get it much cheaper online. I did buy a garden flag for $18.00 and while I could've bought it for a third of the price on Amazon I'd rather support a business that seemed to actually care about getting me what I wanted and not just getting me a cheap price. In summary. If you want to buy local flags, be prepared to sacrifice your wallet, but also realize the service is much better and you get to actually talk to a person. read more

I have passed this flag shop probably a million times, with it's colorful flags and banners hung outside the building and all over the sidewalk. I was recently in the market for a garden flag for my front yard, so I decided to start here. Talk about overwhelming!! There are flags, windsocks, windmills and other myriad garden decoration everywhere! There are all along the walls and they are hung from the ceiling. You literally have to weave your way through them all to get to where you're going. When I finally tracked down the garden flags I was faced with a lot of choices. Every kind of flag that you could possibly imagine of varying size, prices and themes. When I was here I was looking for a pretty simple "every day", non-seasonal flag, but all of the ones I seemed to find were spring/Easter themed. I did find one Obama flag where he looks about 20, so I assume it dates back to '08. I would have asked for help, but on the day I was here the woman working was on the phone having a fairly loud argument with someone about internet connection, so I thought it best to not bother her. I went in and found the most enchanting flags, windsocks and garden flags. I bought a red, white and blue wind sock to take home for the upcoming 4th of July. Great little treasure trove! My sister, daughter, and two granddaughters were visiting from California, and stumbled across Brad and Dellwen as I was getting ready to eat at Deanie's across the street. When I walked into the store I was overwhelmed with the vast amount of flags the store had. I was like a kid in a candy store. The lady in the front was so helpful. She knew where every flag was and if they had or not. There must be over a 1,000 plus flags in that store. They are on the sides, down the middle, hanging from the ceiling, under racks, and buckets. Horrible customer service. I purchased a New Orleans flag for $88 from here in July and the owner was extremely helpful at that time. The issue arose after hanging the flag in front of my house for 4 months (July - October) and it tore completely through the middle and along the edges. It also significantly faded, but we are South-facing, so that wasn't an issue. I brought the tattered flag into the shop, explained I purchased it in July, and was concerned at how quickly it deteriorated. He immediately got defensive and told me that just doesn't happen to flags from his store, as they were all too high quality and American made. He also continued to tell me there was no way that would happen in 4 months and insinuated I was lying about when I purchased it, and could not prove it since he didn't have a "picture of me with the flag in the store". I continued to ask if there was anything I could have done differently to prevent it, and he insisted I must have been "using it wrong" or it was much older than I was saying. Overall, it was really strange and he was really mean/rude. Obviously, I won't be purchasing anymore flags from this store. read more

I was surprised when I checked in here earlier today to see that the flag shop had such low score (2.5 stars) and now I see why...only 2 reviews. I think this shop is a hoot. The owners are very sweet and helpful. The selection is huge. I'm not a super home-decoratey person, but they carry such a variety here, that there truly is something for everyone. We've purchased Saints & Jazz Fest flags here. Today it was gifts for my Mom to give various folks. She bought 3 different New Orleans themed flags and was very pleased with the prices. Yes, walking into the shop is an experience as you are walking with flags brushing your shoulders (even short me). If you're claustrophobic, it could be a problem. Also the owners have a pet parrot in the store; I enjoyed talking to the bird, but my Mom is a bit phobic so she just pretended that it didn't exist. You can't miss the store when it's open since they put so much of the stock on the street and it's really fun to see all the flags, windsocks and whirlygigs blowing in the wind. read more

Is THAT the name of this place?? We affectionately call it "That Really Gay Flag Store on the corner of Magazine and Jackson". You know you have seen it 100 times. This place has flags for ANY holiday you can imagine and a few that you hadn't thought about yet. We stop in about once a year to add to our collection of festive flags. This year we were hunting for a new Saints flag. It took us at least a half an hour to go through the huge selection and decide on which would adorn our front porch. It is a little cramped inside with flags hanging from everywhere but it adds to the thrill of the hunt. They also have colorful windsocks, and other decorations for your porch, patio or yard. If you're into flags, or wind chimes or funky animal puppets, this is your store. It's hard to miss this shop as you walk along the trendy Magazine Street, but the explosion of colours and flapping flags is only a tease to what waits inside. There is no wasted space in this store, with flags and banners of every stripe hanging from floor to ceiling. Wind chimes line the narrow pathways thru the store, making sure that customers run into them along the way, at least that's what co-owner Charles told me. Throughout this colourful cave of flags, there does seem to be a method to the madness, everything is organized into categories making finding your flag less of a scavenger hunt than you might first think. Brad, the other co-owner, said they've been there for 12 years now, so they must be doing something right. I'm not sure where all the negative reviews are coming from, I had quite a lovely time speaking with owners Brad and Charles, as well as their employee Jose, who all seemed very happy to tell me the history of the store and bits of trivia about some of the products, for example all the wind chimes come from Woodstock, NY (not China). I stopped short of a five star rating because I ended up not buying any of their products (I'm actually not into flags that much, it was the colourful sidewalk display that I couldn't resist) so I can't vouch for the quality one way or the other. But from merely speaking with Charles and Brad (and even Helga, the parrot, yes they have a parrot, altho in a shop with this much going on it's hard to see her at first), I have to say it was a wonderful experience for me. A cool shop again on Magazine street. I went in early April and was on a mission to find a New Orleans flag for my house. They not only had a gorgeous selection of Louisiana inspired flags, they just had tons of flags. Every size - sports themed - college themed - hobby themed... I picked up a really cool wind spinner for my mom's garden as well. The owners are incredibly nice and had some great suggestions for what to do and eat in the area. Excessive Profit Margin There certainly is an amazing selection of flags ~ thousands and thousands. However, some of the flags seem excessively marked-up in price. I recently purchased a nice, seasonal flag that was relatively expensive when compared to their other, similarly themed flags. Left on the flag was web address of the manufacturer. Impressed by the flag I'd purchased, I decided to visit the website to see what other flags may be available. To my surprise, it was a retail website. I found the exact flag I had just purchased for over $100.00 available for a MSRP of around $40.00 for purchase. Not only did I pay two and half times over suggested retail but I paid nearly 5 times over what normal wholesale should have been. I do know that there is a cost of doing business on Magazine Street but standard mark-up is nowhere near 500%. Outrageous and not soon forgotten. read more

In my opinion the main guy( old dude) is very nice and helpful. I do not think it is secret that every single mag street shop overcharges, it's prime shopping area. DO NOT PURCHASE HERE! I purchased a flagpole for Jazz Fest, which broke on the first use, immediately after set up, even before I got a flag on it. When I called the store and politely informed the owner of what happened, he barked at me and yelled to me not to bother bringing the flag in, that he gave no warranties, and he would not be issuing a refund or exchange. Literally the nicest man, Charles helped me yesterday finding a birthday gift for my father. Not only did he have the exact flag I was looking for but also it was available in 2 different sizes and with or without fringe. This was my first time coming into the store and he treated me like I was one of his regular customers. I stayed an extra 15 minutes just to talk to him and his lovely bird Helga. Besides literal not being able to walk around the store because all of the clutter, the staffed failed to tell me my price of the flags till after the card was ran. I asked for a Saints 5'x8' flag and got a generic looking fluer de lis flag. After looking at my receipt for almost $300 for 2 flags I went back to return it. I promptly got barked at and was not until after they received my money that there are no returns. We actually bought an American flag from them. They were very helpful about flag poles and brackets. We proudly still wave our American flag in our front yard along with Mardi Gras (during the season), Acadian, and Saints (in season) flags around our house.
