They have cute ketch when you walk in and logo items for sale. I love how they have quick synopsis of some of the books on the outside. The second floor is my fav part. Came here after a local recommendation for the first time, and came back shortly thereafter to enjoy Independent Bookstore Day. Both times, it felt like coming home. The most amazing women work here, and they will both set you on a path of enlightenment or entertainment, whatever you may be looking for. Solid recommendations that were exactly what I was looking for, even though I had only the vaguest of notions each time I walked in as to what I was even looking for. I'm always on the lookout for the next great book, and the women here keep steering me in the exact direction I need. On Bayou Road (the oldest road/path pre-dating the city) and surrounded by other great local shops and eateries. Definitely worth the visit.

Pricing is fair. The owner is helpful and a conversationalist, so if you enjoy those aspects of bookstores you should definitely stop by. I would recommend bringing a LED flashlight. The owner has a small one, and you can use your phone, but they're not bright enough for some of the nooks and crannies. Not entirely sure about its hours - was open during the week when I stopped by but not on Sunday.

Just off St. Charles Ave, right behind the BEAUTIFUL Latter Library, and only open for a few select…read morehours each week, this little book store is full of the BEST DEALS in used books in the city, the area, and possibly the state (please correct me if you know of somewhere better!). It is well organized, full of Thousands of books for $1 dollar (Not all books are one dollar, but more than half!). They also have DVDs, and kids books.There is a big shelf as soon as you walk in filled with the books that most kids have to read for their English classes, and most for $1. And then you are finished reading your books, you can donate them back to this facility and it goes to further the efforts of the Friends of the New Orleans Public Library.....win-win!! An added benefit for those who like to compost, Compost NOW accepts frozen compostable food scraps here from 12:30pm-2pm every Wednesday. Recycle some books, and recycle food waste.

It has this magical,…read moreoverflowing charm that honestly reminded me of the library in Barbie of Swan Lake -- towering stacks of books, shelves crammed with treasures, and the feeling that no matter how long you browse, you'll keep discovering something new. There's a resident cat who wanders around saying hello, which just adds to the cozy, quirky atmosphere. The place has so much character -- books tucked into every corner and that perfect "organized chaos" vibe only the best secondhand shops manage to pull off. I could spend full days in here and still not see everything. Easily one of the best bookshops I've ever visited.

I happened upon Tubby and Coos completely by accident as I had set out to visit one of the neighboring shops and they caught my attention by their PSA sign out front. I walked in the store, and the Sci Fi nerd in me just jumped out as the first thing I saw was Doctor Who. There are a great variety of other books as well, many that appeal to the YA audience as well as the alleged adults of the crowd. I actually ended up picking up a book on the history of the Carnival Krewes of New Orleans, so there really is a bit of something for everyone. The store is small, but there are two stories of goodies contained therein so make sure you take your time to enjoy it all.

Normally I'm nervous about checking out new places alone, but this was a perfect solo adventure - the kind of cozy, cramped place that you don't want to have to squeeze past your friends to get around. Meeting Mrs. Cookie, who was just helping out the owner by watching the shop, and Big Boy, the little purse dog running security, also helped ease me into this new experience. Not only was Mrs. Cookie helpful in directing me through the overwhelming sections and willing to help me search for specific authors, but she was so personable and even had quite the interesting tale to tell me about her life - which all seemed so impossible that you would think she were a character from a book. Overall, there was an abundance of hidden treasures if you have the patience to look. I got a copy of Anne Rice's Queen of the Damned, and George R. R. Martin's A Game of Thrones (in like-new condition) at a great price! Come here for the oldies, but goodies, and the smell of thousands of pages that every book lover adores.

Stopped by ten minutes before close on my way to what I thought was Bank of America (nonexistent)…read more Sooo glad she didn't close early and I was able to meet the infamous bookstore kitty and score a set of the Brian Sanderson Mistborn series. Typically I come to browse and grab any good deals I find, but with minimal time, I let her know which authors I was interested in and she ultimately checked her car after scanning the shelves to get me this series that she was planning on reading herself! They retail 10-12$, but I got them for $8.50 each. Not the world's biggest deal, but cheaper than retail nonetheless. I'm grateful for the effort she put in to find me something to leave with especially so close to her closing time.
