Came here after dinner on Saturday, 11/23/2024. Arrived around 8:30 PM. It was a small crowd inside but since my friend was smoking a cigar we could only sit outside under the heaters on the covered portion of the outside sidewalk. Nomad offers no food just liquor and hookah. They also have cigars for sale but you're allowed to bring your own cigars. I had a Mango mint hookah which was considered to be one of their regular flavor options. The hookah was very flavorful and after about an hour - they changed the coals. The menu says that there's a 2 hour limit on the hookah. However my friend kept ordering drinks and therefore they didn't enforce that rule. You are allowed to bring food in and eat it as long as you're drinking. There are TVs inside and outside and there's music playing as well. Nomad is cool for what it is. Not the most glamorous lounge, but not sketchy either. As they do have an inside lounge, most people enjoy the outside patio area. They offer a nicely priced happy hour, if I remember correctly. They don't serve food. The drinks are pretty standard. I've never been wowed with my service here, but I've never been disappointed either. Nomad is pretty much a local neighborhood hookah spot that is just good enough. Would I go back? Sure I've been plenty of times! But don't expect fancy or glamour. read more

I've been ranking hookah experiences in DC, and this one has easily climbed to the top of the list. The hookah itself was nice and smooth. The music was top tier and it was a very chill atmosphere. Our server was attentive from the time we stepped into the establishment and super sweet throughout our time there. The drinks could have been better. Good hookah, good selection of flavors that you can mix and match. Service was also very friendly and helpful despite it being a Saturday night and pretty busy. They did come by at regular intervals to check on us and change the coal. Now if only they used better coals and not the round quick-light ones, I'd bump it to 5 stars. Came out for a night of celebration while in DC and we were not disappointed. We were seated promptly and told the process of how things go. Soon after our server Britney was with us and helping us navigate how our night was going to go. We placed our order, and I have to say this, we were a large group, I appreciate the patience that Britney showed us. There was a bit of confusion on our part as we are form out of town which is to be expected. Once our order was placed it was smooth sailing. Our orders came out quite fast. And to our liking. The only miscommunication was what flavors of hookah were which, but that was quickly figured out. The staff were very attentive, took care of our every need. They came around and made sure we had fresh hotness for our hookahs. I can't stress this enough, Britney was amazing. She had this way about her that made it seem that this is second nature to her. She never missed a beat, knew her stuff, and was able to comment on or make a suggestion on any and every thing we were second guessing ourselves on. She also had this candor about her that made it feel like a fun filled atmosphere, a place to let loose and have a good time. I went to Nomad Hookah Bar around 9:00pm on a Saturday. I've been before when it was very crowded and it was perfect this Saturday night. I think it had to do with being during the holiday season. I love how cozy, intimate and laid back it is. For drinks, I had the Pineapple Xpress, which was a bit weak for my liking and a glass of Moscato. I had the Tropical Mint hookah that was really good. I love Cru's hookah and it was definitely comparable. The only real issue I had was the lack of customer service. The bouncer and gentlemen making the hookah were nice. However, the gentleman that initially took our order seemed irritated and like he didn't even want to be bothered. Not sure if it was a bad day, but probably not as I saw him engaging with another party without the same energy he provided us. Not once, did he stop by to check on us or ask if we needed anything else. I just chose to engage with the gentlemen that made the hookah for any request. Nomad was super cute with a lovely atmosphere. There was only about a 5 minute wait when my friend and I arrived at 9:30 and we were able to sit outside. The bouncer at the bar was really nice and was able to answer my questions about the establishment. Things I liked about Nomad: - it's purely a hookah bar. No food just hookah and drinks - they are constantly replacing the coals - the blueberry something something was delicious - our waitress was super attentive but not too annoying - the drink prices weren't totally unreasonable - the hookah was super smooth!! Things I wasn't super hype about: - the outdoor seating area doesn't have any music. Would've been nice to have some background tunes with our hookah and drinks - the outdoor seating area is a bit cramped. I felt like I was sitting on top of my neighbors. We did, however, have some decent convo with our unexpected neighbors...so I guess that's good - there's no food! While visiting Washington, my mom, my cousin, and myself decided to branch out from the downtown area to find a hookah bar. Nomad was very welcoming & Koy was a great waitress. Compared to Houston, TX the hookahs are pretty pricey, so she suggested we check out the hookah bars a few doors down, but I think she knew we would come back - we did. The other bars were not as welcoming & cozy as Nomad. My family & I really enjoyed ourselves here & we will definitely come back when we are in the Washington DC area. Lemon Hooka was smooth, best I've had in Shaw/Hst. I came on a Saturday night and the bouncer waved us in immediately. From there a hostess escorted us to the next available seating- patio! I was pleasantly surprised by the expediency of our hostess and the Hooka delivery. Hooka was steep ($27) but it's cheaper mon-Thursday. I dinged a star for the Saturday price. TIP:make sure your server honors the yelp check-in offer. I love this place. It's super chill vibes and the waitresses/bartenders are all awesome. I frequent Nomads about once a month and I've never had bad service here. The coals are always refilled without asking. The drinks are always strong. The music is always on point and it's always a good crowd. Beware on weekends there's most likely going to be a wait. Especially now during the winter months since the outside patio isn't open. Seating is very limited. My favorite hookah flavor here is white peach. The only con I have is that they don't serve food. I've seen people walk next door to Horace and Dickie's Carryout and bring food back to Nomads. Only to have the bouncer at the door ask them to eat outside or have the bar hold their food until they leave. read more

This hookah bar is always a great time! Security is always quick when checking IDs and waiters are always down to earth and friendly. My group was seated quickly. Our waitress came over and introduced herself even though she was in the middle of serving other customers when we came on which was really appreciated. Once we put our drink and hookah orders in we settled in for small talk and watched the highlights on the tv. This was my first time sitting in their fenced, sidewalk patio. Very nice and well ventilated with fans. The hookahs came quickly. We selected the strawberry mint hookah. It had a mellow but flavorful taste. Drinks were reasonable priced and decent taste wise. I've been to Nomad a few times before and each time had the waitress named Dee. She was always so attentive, personable, and walking around with a smile. My cousin and I went this past Thursday as we were "Happy Hour Bar Hoping" and it was NOT the same experience. We sat down and were greeted by a young woman (I don't know her name because she did not introduce herself). She seemed really eager to take our drink order before we really had time to check out the menu, but didn't offer any recommendations. Then when we asked for some time to look over the menu she walked away looking mad and went to talk to her colleagues at the bar. We looked at the drink menu and the happy hour specials were not really happy hour specials. We had just had margaritas at another bar for $4 and their happy hour price was $9. That, on top of the waitress with the attitude, made us decide to just leave. I have had good experiences at nomad before. Their hookah is always great and they usually have a nice chill vibe, so I'm going to give it another chance eventually. Hopefully that was just one bad night. read more

Great hookah! I do think the prices are a bit steep especially since there isn't happy hour on Friday. (Monday- Thursday only until 7pm) It's 27.99 a hookah, 3 coals maximum (or pay more), and an extra $10 dollars if you have more than 4 people. But that's okay, I'll head to Chi Cha Lounge on Fridays for $13 hookah) But the hookah is very good and smooth. Nice vibe, and music too. Great location for H street! Wonderful service. This business takes advantage of their patrons. Tonight my friends and I came to nomad after I called ahead of time and was told there was no wait. Our party consisted of 8 people. When we arrived I had to use the bathroom and I made mention to the security at the door. The security guard checked my ID and let me and my friend in. When I walked in there were 2 people sitting on the couch and the bathrooms were occupied. As we were waiting to use the bathroom, another security guard aggressively came and rushed me and my friend back outside. He stated "you both need to go back to the door!" It was then the manager came and stated that in order for us to be let in we would have to purchase 3 hookahs and a minimum of $100 worth of drinks. At that point I decided to not patronize this establishment. We as a group decided to come to Nomad with the mindset to patronize and have a good time. We probably would have spent more than what they were asking. For us to be rushed outside because the security guard was eager to make a certain amount is not okay. Although the Hookah bar scene is not quite my thang, I decided to meet up with some friends for Happy Hour over on the H Street Corridor. Nomad was the first bar hop of choice. As paranoid as I was about wanting to be in an smoking environment, annoyed and thinking it could be no fun, I must say that I really enjoyed my time at this place. The staff was very friendly upon entering Nomad. Once in the bar you immediately get a sense of a cool, laid-back vibe. The inside is low lit but very spacious. There is even an outside patio which to me made an ideal environment for those in a party that do smoke or partake on the bomb! Ooops...pipe!? Ummm....line!? LOL!....Oh well, You catch my drift! For a Thursday night, the bar was jumping! Crowded with folks partaking on the great happy hour prices and hookah coal priced accordingly. As for prices, I must say the drink were well priced ($4.99 and up) but can't speak to the hookah coals as to I have not been to many hookah bars in the DC area for a comparison. It's a typical bar on the revamped H Street Corridor. To sum it all up: SERVICE: Excellent! I felt welcomed upon entering and the hostess was very attentive. DRINKS: Strong! I enjoyed guzzling down the Breezy Blonde and Slammin' Goddess! Also, there are lot's of cheap beer choices. Tip...There is a Yelp Check-in for a Free Beer! Even during Happy Hour! VIBE: Casual to trendy hipsters, low light, intimate, no lava lamps or incense smells! Not too crowded but I was told by the hostess they can reach capacity on weekends; which can add to a wait for a table or a long time to get in. The music was not too loud given the space....So conversations could be had without a megaphone! Ideal for groups or intimate 1 on 1's! Even though I don't smoke, I definitely did not feel like the odd ball in the entire bar. There were plenty of folk that were there, like me, to be tranquilized by alcohol only; instead of the hookah coals or tobacco. Overall, a great bar and perfect for bar-hopping up and down the H Street scene. The only down-side is that you can't drink outside on the patio! They need to seriously rethink that policy...imho. Other than that, Nomad is all good! There's a chance of a good experience, but it's at your own risk given the unsteady temperament of the bouncer and the ill-mannered manager and server. Never-have-I-ever before been accused of being "too loud". In any establishment. Much less a hookah bar! We were having a fun night, and engaged with tables on both sides of us (making it three of the four tables with clients). The first time the bouncer came over, I initially thought he was joking about being too loud. When we didn't lower our voices enough after the first warning, the bouncer came back and took off his jacket as to intimidate us, while threatening to throw us out! Dude, we're seated, laughing, drinking and smoking hookah. Are you serious??? When I spoke to the manager about it, she supports his aggressiveness, and says it was because the woman at the table next to ours was being "disrespectful" for laughing at his demands for quiet. I just visited this place yesterday for the first time. My colleagues and I arrive at about 10 pm Tuesday evening. Upon our arrival, the place seemed to be nice however the waitress did not seem friendly at all. We informed her that we would have a large party to which she seemed indifferent about and proceeded to seat us at the booth closest to the door. We told her we would like 1 hookah and were not ready to order drinks yet as we were waiting for the rest of our party to arrive. After about 5 mins they arrived and she came back asking us to order drinks. I placed an order for 1 drink and told her everyone will not be drinking, she then asked us to order another hookah to which I informed her that everyone does not smoke and that we will be fine with just one for now. It just went all downhill from there. She proceeded to take all of the menus from the table. I asked her if we could keep one because we had every intention of ordering other items later on. She handed it to me and just walked away. She literally turns right back around and tells us that if we are only going to order 1 hookah and a couple of drinks we will need to leave. I was appalled! She said that since we are a party of 7 we need to order at least 7 alcoholic beverages and 2 hookahs. I told her everyone one does not drink! She says " You have 2 options either get 2 hookahs and a round of drink or you can leave". I was so taken aback that I asked to speak to the manager. The young lady (manager) informed me that the waitress explained it wrong and that they were at capacity, however, there was only 3 other table being occupied. (mind you this is a Tuesday Night it was dead in there) I asked how could you be at capacity if you were going to serve us as long as we spent more money? Then she back paddled and said oh no she misunderstood my issue. She then told us she would personally take our order but we do need to order more drink because there were 7 of us. I refuse to let anyone pressure my friends into drinking or smoking if that is not their pleasure. They just came to fellowship with the rest of us and now were asked to leave if they did not order. Clearly the waitress had an attitude from the door. Perhaps she had a bad day or because it was so slow wanted a bigger tip. If we ordered more the gratuity for the party would be more for her. No matter what her issue was that is NOT how you treat people platinizing your business. Thus, we ALL left and went to Apple Lounge (which was more spacious, friendly, and had no requirements on whether everyone drank or not). If you plan on visiting this place with a large party be sure that everyone smokes/drinks and be prepared to order multiple hookahs. Honestly, I would never visit this place again. The decor and ambience was perfect and the cozy alcove seating was on point. There was good music playing and a huge plus, TV had basketball and other sports on. My new chill hookah spot! LOVED this place. I've been looking for a nice, comfy, low key hookah spot, and this place was perfect. As soon as my friend and I walked in, the woman that greeted us was so nice and made us feel right at home. She let us sit wherever we wanted, which was nice. The place is filled with comfy couches, and has very dim lights, which sets off a nice vibe. They also have TVs which was great because we got to watch the Cowboys. They play great music, and it's not too loud so you can hear yourself think! One thing I noticed is that it seemed to be a nice local spot. Everyone that came in, gave the lady hugs. She was so welcoming and knew pretty much everyone that walked in. We also saw a couple playing cards, which was just awesome to see. They have a bar at this hookah lounge, which was nice, cause a lot of the hookah spots in DC I've been too didn't have alcohol, which was a bummer for me. A great place to go AFTER dinner, or just do yourself a favor and go to a "one stop shop" inclusive of cocktails, good food, good hookah and music. We live right here near H street and wanted to check out some of the chill looking spots we always walk and drive pass daily. My friend from out town wanted Hookah so this spot was perfect and convenient . Before we even entered the facility the front door staff member (African American) male became rude as we were getting out our ID and used profanity ass well. That was a very bad first experience and extremely uncomfortable .I feel like there needs to be some proper hospitality training . I'm not sure if the guy was having a bad day or what but you don't speak to people that way especially if we are coming to spend our money in your facility.
