The Elroy just opened up on May 25th, and still smelled new when we went for drinks for a friend's birthday on the 28th. Yes, a bar smelled NEW. Crazy huh? Anyway, they still had some kinks to iron out such as stocking the bar upstairs and taking the price tag off the grill they bought at Home Depot. The Elroy definitely shows promise. Similar to other places on H, there are two levels and a back deck that is fenced in. There is a bar on both floors, but the first floor one is more substantial. Drinks were average priced, but came in those slanty glasses, so be forewarned that if you're not used to them, you will spill. (You'll see what I mean). Upstairs there are a few padded benches along the wall and drink tables and chairs to accomodate groups. Hopefully they've put up a curtain or something to block the direct in-your-face beams from the street light outside. The coolest thing though? When you're in the bathroom on the second floor, it's one way glass, so you can see out, but people can't see in with normal lighting conditions. read more

During 2018 H Street festival some friends and I stopped at a bar called Elroy. We was greeted by the owner I believe her name is Donna. This was a quaint bar as much of bars on H Street but it had a lively and friendly vibe. They offered happy hour drink special, and you can do hookah. The bartenders were on point. Downfall, Elroy don't serve food but you can bring your own food in from one of the local establishments. Elroy have a DJ and she was excellent. I would defiantly go back again and patronize this minority business. read more

Stopped by on a whim with 3 of my friends while just looking for a bar to hangout at after dinner. The bartender Ashley was very friendly and helpful. Bar menu for drinks were very reasonable pricing ranging from $5-$14 for rail liquor. The yelp check in gets you a rail shot for free. It was a real Dj, it was someone playing music off his phone which kind of sucked when he would get notifications. Security guard Matt was very friendly as well. It was a chill environment. Bar area downstairs was very small. Didn't get a chance to go upstairs. It was cool for a quick drink. read more

My new go to spot for a easy, casual night out on H Street. I invited a bunch of friends to come by the Elroy for my birthday last month. The physical space is narrow but they have 2 levels so its easy to spread out on a good night. When I got there, the 2 floor was closed. I talked to the manager, and he was soooo accommodating. I told him I'd invited about 20 people and he was more than happy to let us have free reign of the top level, it was like having my own private party room. The drinks were great and they have plenty of small plates to choose from so that we had food to nibble on. I'm definitely going back! Especially when its warm and the back patio is open. read more

The Elroy is new to the H Street family and it's the perfect addition! It's not a huge bar/lounge, but it's a perfect place to enjoy some great cocktails and just unwind! They participated in our Neighborfood event on H Street, and everyone kept raving about their delicious stuffed clams. So many people flocked to The Elroy that they ran out of stuffed clams, only to wow the guests with their spare ribs! I got to attend the grand opening event and it was really nice! A lot of influential people in DC seemed to be in the building, everyone was dressed nice, and the drinks were flowing! Their outdoor patio is probably my favorite thing about the The Elroy (besides The Elroy drink itself...definitely ask for one of those). There is more space to relax and unwind under the setting sun and gentle summer breeze, all while sipping on your favorite cocktail. They even have LIVE Jazz on Wednesday nights now! read more

FINALLY! Something to join the lonely Argonaut on the 1400 block of H Street. The Elroy has low-key bar/lounge vibe and is set in a two-story townhouse complete with deck out back. They were playing cool jazz and R&B on the sound system the night I stopped by (a Saturday). The clientele seemed pretty well-dressed for H Street. Maybe it was because of the live music act getting ready to play upstairs. In addition to a full bar, they have three drafts including Alagash White and Angry Orchard Cider (whatever happened to Woodchuck?). The kitchen in the rear is open and TINY, with only a convection oven, but apparently they are able to turn out everything from chicken wings to ribs and stuffed clams. And of course there's a huge painting of its famous namesake, Elroy Jetson, in the back. read more

Incredibly blown. Service is a shame. Terrible. Fought for any minuscule bit of attention to order. Put my order in and after 5 min still had no drink. Order was simple, mad easy, something quick- double whiskey. Bartender couldn't flirt and take my money at the same time. Was rudeness in my eyes, the disregard. Second visit, so sad about it. Ok I know its a bar, and I didn't actually partake in a drink, but from my 3 friends who were, they said the drinks were strong (and these guys are DRINKERS), so well worth the buck. We stumbled upon this place while barhopping on H St bc one of my friends had been here before and liked the live music they used to have on Fridays (It was Saturday when we went though). It's not a full full bar, but they had the essentials, as in, there aren't 10 different vodkas or rums for you to choose from. I actually ordered the hookah, not sure how long they've been doing it for, but a nice spot a few blocks closer to home than Nomad if the craving strikes me. The staff were all nice and although it was early in the night, place wasn't packed like sardines so it was enjoyable. The hookah guy also told us they are adding in heat lamps on the back patio and opening the patios for the summer, as well (I guess its a new addition to the place). I feel bad about not giving a higher star rating, but there were too many minuses today. I will go back because I don't think the place was firing on all cylinders and I like that the Elroy is pioneering a new holdfast on the end of h st. So why 2 stars? Because the bar was open, but locked. Then we walk in and it is a bar without a bartender: I ask if they have a cocktail menu and the poor guy behind the bar says the bartender isn't there, and he can't make any of the drinks, so don't order any. Ok. Desperate times call for PBR in a can and the cider on tap. I can forgive lack of bartending skills but please check up on your customers at least once in the hour plus they are there. We might want another or we might want the check. And after putting cash down, we might need change. Just maybe. Minus minus. I am also sympathetic to TVs, but a non-sports bar kills the vibe with the game on loud. Music would be better. read more

This place is close to my house so I decided to check it out. Walked in the door the bouncer was cool and the place seemed nice. After we showed our ID the chick at the bar asked us for a $10 cover each because it was Saturday night. We paid the cover walked up stairs because it was packed down stairs and noticed there was no available seating up their either. So we basically spent $20.00 just to walk up stairs and leave in less than 5 minutes. Compete waste of time and money. They should have told us that there isn't any more room in their so there is no point of coming in. All we wanted to do is smoke hookah and unfortunately because not the bouncier or the women taken our money didn't inform us there want space. Will not be going there again! read more

I went to The Elroy a few years ago with my ex and we had a *great* time. Drinks were expensive, but STRONG. Bartenders were friendly. It wasn't crowded and we got a great booth upstairs; no annoying table minimums, and the hookah servers were always checking in. To top it all off the DJ was fantastic--a trap beat extraordinaire! The Elroy was better than expected based on its location, but in the end service was disappointing. The hookah would've been great had the spout been secure and fitting and not continued to fall out. The coals wouldn't stay lit and every 10 minutes we had to ask for a new coal. Anyway the hookah is only $25 so you get what you pay for. Drinks were okay, a Henny and Coke was $10 but I couldn't even get a lemon or lime, just a basic plastic cup. Music was lit, and they're pretty chill about people bringing their own... "items" in with them. The table next to us brought their own drinks and the owners let them smoke their own 'supply', so I guess that's cool if you're into that. One of the hosts was rude and called us out of our name after we ordered. Then another little frail guy came up and told us "We're closed" after he and that same host stood across the room pointing at our table. They close at 2:30. It was 1:57. Nice looking, well priced, terribly serviced place. Won't be back. Nomad's is much classier. read more

I have nothing bad to say about this place. The drinks are are as sexy as the ladies serving them. I am a fan of spots that do not intentionally charge just because you expect Dc to be expensive. A diverse crowd usually attends early in the night but once Midnight strikes the freaaaaks come out. Good music and sometimes they have a band. Also they lightweight have the best food on H st. (Jerk Wings= Flaamme). Pretty lit situation can not wait to go back. I will be there Saturday. read more

My husband and I popped in here for a quick drink before dinner on a Friday night. We were able to get seats at the bar and were helped immediately. The bartender was awesome! We ordered two speciality cocktails and both were exceptionally good. My husband ordered the Astro, which was a little too strong for his taste, but I thought it was great.
