I had a great experience at this office. I drove across town from Winter Garden specifically for a type of mouth guard that it seems he is the only person in town offering. What I encountered was an extremely well organized office with state-of-the art technology that was able to do much more for me than I would ever expect from a dental office. The tour prior to service was a little cheesy but I appreciated the friendliness of the staff and that Dr Melendez took time to explain his findings to justify his plan of care. Honestly, not impressed. If they think parading you around their office to show off their state of the art technology is a selling point, they may want to rethink their pitch. Everything felt artificial to me, and it left me feeling a little uncomfortable. I felt like I was being harassed to watch Netflix or order something off of their "comfort menu," and it didn't help that every interaction sounded scripted. Also, had some issues with insurance, billing, etc. and after reaching out I was told to expect a response -- so far, nothing. The staff is wonderful, dr Melendez is kind and trustworthy, not trying to upsell the client and have them spend money on unnecessary tests and scans like some other local dentists. Nona Smiles has the appearance of being patient friendly. I love the state of the art equipment and the hygienist did a good job cleaning my teeth. Dr. Carlos Melendez, seams to be good at his job and willing to fix any problems. However, what I didn't like was paying before my treatment or service was given. Secondly, It appears I was deceived regarding my pre treatment estimate and approval being submitted to my insurance carrier, resulting in a huge out of pocket expense for me because the procedure they performed was not covered by my insurance at the time of service. The person in charge of finance Elsa Soto, may be responsible for not verifying coverage and insurance status prior to the procedure. Do not come here!!! Beware this place has abused my parents!! I had recommended they come here after seeing reviews. I regret it so bad! They were always told they were in network from the moment they made the appointment. They were even given an in network estimate they had to sign off on even though they had and knew out of network costs. They performed some work and then of course the insurance only pays out of network costs. They bill my parents for work they have yet to have done and all we ask is why weren't out of network costs quoted from the beginning. We tried to file a case with BBB and they did not come to any resolution and they did not even accept that maybe this is a bad business practice. They have now sent the bill to collections for work that my parents have yet to get done and no longer want to get done with Nona smiles. Don't waste your time or your money. read more

I've been using the dental services at Nona Smiles for around two years and have been nothing but impressed. While I've not needed any restorative​ procedures (knock on wood), I do require more frequent perio maintenance and also used the in-office whitening system. The dentist and hygienists​ are very professional and personable. Did have​ some billing insurance issues but were readily sorted out. Overall, I highly recommend this practice. read more

This might be a bit of a long post but def worth the read if you are looking for a great dentist who won't terrify you. I have a severe fear of dentists but Dr Melendez has been amazing! He worked with my fear from day one and I have now have a 100% healthy smile for the first time since probably high school. The things he has completed for me: A tooth implant Two cavities Two crowns Wisdom teeth extractions Deep cleaning - the one they have to numb your mouth for This is all stuff that has needed to be completed for quite a while and he is the ONLY dentist that I can see without taking anti anxiety meds first. Annerys has usually assisted Dr Melendez on my appointments and she is amazing too. The whole staff is great but I can't recommend this dentist enough. On the note from others that his prices are a bit higher. This is true but he is also using the newest technology which in turn makes my visits easier. Worth every penny. read more

Francisco's review is spot on... This office is state of the art new technology . If you have the extra income over and above your insurance this is the place for you . For the average exam, cleaning, routine (yearly) X-rays , and fluoride treatment they charged my insurance $250. MetLife paid them $220. This was not enough for this office they sent me a bill for the remainder $30. I have excellent dental hygiene and have just recently moved here . I have dental insurance for a reason ... To keep my teeth as healthy as possible . If you are looking at this office please note they are not happy with what the normal fees for the USA for preventive treatment. You WILL be charged extra. Personally this is my last visit to this office. This is my opinion but throwing a party for all the patients is a waste of money which is what they just did. Also giving away big screen tv's as an incentive to get you to refer patients is also something I have never seen at a dentist office . A good physician doesn't need promos and incentives. read more

Very upsetting visit today, their billing practices are very deceptive. Only at the end of the visit was I told I was not covered by my insurance(took the front office over 2 hours to verify). I understand this office works on reimbursement from the insurance company, which i was ok with having Blue Cross. I paid $200 for a routine cleaning! MY smile is back, I visited the office to get a composit filling in my front teeth since they were cracked and the result was EXELLENT, now I have a beautiful smile, the office is very nice and high technology the dentist shows have much knowledge in the field and spend time to explain in detail the entire process ,very friendly staff, formerly visit them for a cleaning and it has been the BEST. been going to this dentist for the last few years and never had a problem with them. Always very nice and very helpful although always extremely expensive. Today I go in for my cleaning and I'm told I need to get x-rays. I advised I did not want to have x-rays I do not feel the need for them as they were just done in 2019 not even two full years. I was then told it is a law that I need to have them otherwise they cannot see me. When I questioned this and ask them to show me the law and state the statute they could not do so. I turned to Google to ask if it was a law that dentists are allowed to regulate x-rays. Lo and behold it is not there is no law in the state of Florida that says a dentist can force you to have x-rays. When I confronted them with this information they said it was an office policy. I said that was two different things. I advise I did not want x-rays I did not want to subject my body to radiation and was told that the doctor could not see me. I then said well let's just have a cleaning and not an evaluation from the doctor know if they cannot do that either and to top it all off they're going to charge me a cancellation fee. Absolutely not I was there it is my choice and my body whether or not I want to have x-rays. My family goes to this dentist and now they will no longer be going to this dentist because they have no right to tell me or anyone whether or not they have to get x-rays. Everyone should think twice before needlessly putting radiation in their body when being forced to buy a Doctor Who is making money off of it. read more

Great service and professionalism. Left when insurance changed but returned after a year!

I went in for 10 porcelain veneers. The veneers were NOT approved by me they were unsymmetrical and did not match my specifications. Once I realized They could not get the job done we agreed to give me a full refund so I can go elsewhere. I signed for the full amount charged to be refunded in office. Once I left I waited a few days and my refund was only given of 50% of the money I paid. I left there in plastic temps and Dr. Melendez and Nona Smiles stayed with $6,000 of my money. Dr. Melendez's time cost me $6,000. I called the office to question why I was not refunded $6,000 of my money. I was given no explanation no breakdown and I was told as per Dr. Melendez that I was dismissed from his practice. I was crying hysterically through out the entire call I couldn't believe what these people had done to me. Please stay away from this place!!! If I could give zero stars I would. I have never been treated so poorly in a dental office. I went into the office with 2 dental insurances. Both of which had out of network benefits, and one of them they were in-network with! I was immediately taken into a room and charged for an office visit before anyone had even seen me. After paying $80.00 before even seeing a dentist, I was offered a free gift, and then seated in the dental chair. The dental assistant took an x-Ray of the tooth that was bothering me. The dentist came in, and spent 2 minutes looking in my mouth. He said he was going to fill a cavity. He then left the room, and another girl entered and told me I needed to sign more paperwork and wanted to charge me another $200.00! They are not interested in patient care. They are strictly concerned with making money. With 2 great dental plans, they knew they were going to be paid 100% of the cost of the visit, but instead of only charging me 20% (what my in-network plan pays) they insisted on 100%. No one was educated in proper insurance billing. I left without having my tooth repaired, because I didn't feel that I should have to pay $280.00 for a filling when my insurance was going to pay them 100%. In my opinion, if you're looking for a quality dentist interested in real patient care, this is not the place for you. If you are interested in give aways, and giving away your money, make an appointment. read more

First visit went ok. Went in for a cleaning and a checkup. This took just over 2 hours because the dentist was caught up in another surgery. They gave me a bottle of water and put on a movie, eventually I fell asleep. Removing the horrible wait time the service was great and the dentist was even better. Good enough for me to schedule a filling the following week. Second visit went great. I got a filling and was in and out within an hour and a half (if that). I was going to get a clear coating (to prevent future cavities) which would have cost extra but the dentist said with the filling I wouldn't need it. I appreciate an honest dentist who doesn't try to nickel and dime me. During this appointment I was referred by the office to a root canal specialist (endodontist) whom I was told was really good. I was also told the crown was going to cost me approximately $400 (after my insurance) which I was fine with. I'm going to include a brief review of the endodontist since it was a referral by Nona Smiles. With the exception of the endodontist herself I did not trust the staff. They contradicted one another when asked the same question. When making the appointment I told the receptionist I would be in during my lunch hour and couldn't be long. She said the initial consultation wouldn't take more than 30 mins. I arrived 10 mins early (to fill out paperwork) and left 90 mins after my appointment start time. During which they prepped me assuming I was going to have all the work done even though I did not agree to it (this kept me waiting in the chair another 10-15 mins after I was done). They charged $200 for x-rays and a test to see if my tooth was dead. The root canal cost was just under $1,200. The endodontist herself was amazing. She was intelligent, nice, calming, and did a great job that caused me no pain at all. Back at Nona Smiles for my crown and had another amazing visit. The dentist has great people skills and uses state of the art technology. The staff is super friendly. I didn't have any pain during any of my visits. I did have an allergic reaction to something (not necessarily from the endodontist visit) after my root canal. The staff at Nona smiles found out about it and called to see if I was doing ok. Also the dentist used a different anesthesia just in case to avoid another reaction. I thought this was wonderful of them. When leaving my crown appointment happy with the results I confirmed with the receptionist the cost. She told me it would only cost me around $400 (in an earlier conversation she explained the staff from the endodontist office misquoted me and I was going to be charged less than what I was told by them). Several weeks later my insurance will only reimburse me a few dollars and instead of the ~$400 cost I came out of pocket over $860. I called and Nona Smiles said it was the endodontist's office fault (which they said they no longer refer to) for charging me $200 for the consultation and not communicating it to them. I was apologized to several times. Even though Nona Smiles told me it would only be ~$400 I take responsibility for not doing the math work myself and not confirming prices and costs. Nona smiles is still a great office but definitely get prices in writing and communicate with your insurance carrier. Also be wary of referrals. I'm sure I wasn't the first to have complaints about the office of the endodontist. read more

Went into Nona Smiles to have a cleaning and also ask a couple questions about future procedures. To make this really easy, I told the dentist EXACTLY what I wanted done and how I wanted to do it, but they were only interested in what the insurance would cover and how quickly they could get that out of the way. (I am paying out of pocket for most of my procedure anyway). After trying to high gross me on my teeth, I soon realized that this place wasn't my worthy of my time, business, or money. When it comes to a dentist, I want someone genuine/someone who actually cares about what I have to say. After the cleaning (which was exceptional by the way), I paid for fluoride treatment for both me and my girlfriend. A few days later I got a bill in the mail from my insurance to pay for the fluoride . Basically, Nona Smiles attempted to charge me, my insurance, and then me again for something I never should have had to come out of pocket for in the first place.
