On February 16, 2026, I visited SoDo Smiles Dentistry for an emergency involving tooth #28. I was in severe pain and trusted their recommendations. During that visit, they: * Opened the tooth * Placed medication * Shaved it down * Placed a temporary crown However, no root canal was completed, and no permanent crown was placed. I was then presented with a treatment plan that included very high costs, including a CEREC crown upgrade that was not clearly explained as an out-of-pocket expense beyond insurance coverage. The very next day, after reviewing everything, I returned and informed them that I would not be continuing treatment with their office. I was told that I was "stuck" with them. That statement is incorrect. Patients have the legal right to choose where they receive care. I chose to go to another in-network provider, where: * My root canal was properly completed * My crown was handled appropriately * Pricing was transparent * No unnecessary upgrades were pushed At SoDo Smiles, I paid $279 out of pocket and was told I had a zero balance at that time. I am now seeing billing attempts for procedures that were not completed by their office. This experience raised concerns regarding: * Lack of financial transparency * Upselling of upgraded services * Misleading communication * Billing practices Patients deserve clear communication, fair pricing, and the freedom to make informed decisions. read more

I found this location via my insurance company. Initially I was a little annoyed because the appointment scheduler attempted to "school me on HMO's" because he believed that was the plan I had. Until I advised him of my insurance background and the fact that I had a preferred PPO plan. He was extremely pleasant and was attempting to be helpful and apologized because he spelled my name wrong and pulled up the wrong individual (huh?!). Otherwise my experience here has been great. Dr. Saara Rasool is amazing and very informative about what issues you're having and the procedures needed to correct them. Jeysel performed my cleaning and he was fantastic. Usually these words don't go along with a dental visit but I was impressed. I received a detailed printout of all the procedures and the cost at my 1st visit to guarantee no surprises. The oral surgeon Dr. Jonathan Elmore get 15 stars. So far... the only surprise I've had is how pleased I am with my experience. read more

I've been going to this office for over 7 years and have recommended many people here over the years, but unfortunately, I won't be returning. I also won't be referring anyone else moving forward. Even with insurance, the cost of basic cleanings and maintenance has become unaffordable. What's been even more disappointing is the noticeable decline in quality and professionalism over the past year, which was really the nail in the coffin for me. The front desk experience has gone downhill, especially with one of the newer women. I never had these kinds of issues with the previous front desk staff over the years, who were always kind, professional and helpful. But since this new hire, every time I've come in or called, there's been an issue. When I've asked for clarification about payments or receipts, I've been met with cold, snarky remarks by this same person, as if I was bothering them by asking clarifying questions. At one point, she even made rude comments about me out loud and laughed while I was still sitting in the waiting area. It's unprofessional and honestly just disrespectful. During cleanings with some of the newer hygienists, simple steps like offering glasses or a bib have also been skipped. These may seem like small things, but they add up when you're paying a premium for care. The only reason this review has two stars is because of Dr. Peters and hygienist Jeysel. They've both been consistently kind and professional, and they're the reason I stayed as long as I did. But at this point, the service from the rest of the staff makes it not worth coming back. read more

During the appointment, a dental hygienist made several statements using diagnostic terminology, without a licensed dentist present and prior to any evaluation by one. As established by Florida law, dental hygienists are not authorized to diagnose medical conditions or provide prognoses. These responsibilities are exclusively reserved for licensed dentists. The use of such diagnostic language by non-licensed personnel not only oversteps legal boundaries but may also constitute malpractice or defamation, particularly if such assessments are inaccurate or unsubstantiated. I even brought up the situation to the owner who refused to offer an apology. Refusing to hold your hygienist responsible is not a sign of being a great boss. It just means you're ok with providing sub-par patient care. I don't recommend this facility. This place is a scam. I went as a new patient for a cleaning and they tried to push a laser treatment on me. I told them I didn't want to do it as I haven't been to the dentist in a year and I always have had good oral health and I do not like excessive treatments I can't afford. After the third person coming into the room to breakdown the cost ($1300) I politely asserted that I was not going to do this expensive treatment and I just want my teeth cleaned as I have no cavities, no loose teeth and no pain. After and hour and three sales pitches they told me they did not have time for a cleaning and I would have to reschedule. Nevertheless, the voice on the phone said, "If you can be here in half an hour, we will fit you in." Great first impression! The office is within walking distance of my residence and I was able to complete my new patient profile online, saving me time, which is a huge plus in my book. The office is located in a busy strip mall, surrounded by restaurants. Despite the brisk traffic, parking is easy to find. I was greeted warmly by the front office staff and invited to take a seat in the waiting room. My name was called within 15 minutes of arrival. My appointment was considered an emergency. After several x-rays, I met with my dentist-to-be...Susan Peters-Seppala, DDS (cue angel song). I felt very comfortable with this lovely lady. She unhurriedly explained my condition and the treatment required, both immediate and long-term. She listened to and answered my questions with genuine interest and provided easy to understand clarification. I felt that she genuinely cared. I was provided a printed, easy to comprehend treatment plan at the conclusion of my visit. There was no charge for my appointment. Prescriptions were called in to the Publix Pharmacy across the street to cure my immediate discomfort. I greatly appreciated not having to wait in line to have the prescription filled and my meds were ready to pick up a mere 15 minutes later. I require extensive (and expensive) dental work. I've consulted other dentists and they all pale in comparison to my experience at SoDo Smiles Dentistry. They have won my trust. I have a financing consultation scheduled for next week. read more

That includes an exam and X-rays....But when asked what is the cost for a cleaning they refuse to tel me the cost regardless of the level of cleaning. Had an excellent experience at SoDo Smiles! I was a bit anxious for my visit as it had been a while since I'd had a dental care visit, but the entire team was so kind, gentle, caring, and reassuring. As a new patient, the visit took 2 hours and 45 minutes. This team was through - X-rays, pictures, gum health assessment, and cleaning. I also had to get an old filling fixed and they were able to squeeze that in before the cleaning. I'm not someone to review a dental practice, but actually really liked this office and thought this team deserved some recognition. Do not go to this establishment. They charge your insurance for procedures they did not do. I had a six month cleaning only and they billed my insurance company for x-rays, crown, and other procedures I did not have done. When I asked to have this corrected, staff ignored phone calls and emails. I am currently trying to resolve with my insurance company. I felt more like I was at a used car dealership than a dental office. They try to push you to have work done. It's like they work on commission. They tried to schedule me for procedures and said my insurance would cover them at 100% and it was not true. When I asked for clarification, they stopped responding. I am still waiting for an itemized bill and response from them. I contacted my insurance company to not pay the bogus claim and have found a new dentist. They are not trustworthy and they will ignore you when you try to correct the billing. They also lie to you about what your insurance will pay for. Went for pre-exam in July and was given a pre-authoraztion for root canal therapy and crown work. My appointment was today 8/18/21 was approached first thing by office manager and she stated she had tried contacting yesterday, gave me a new charge breakdown and it was 800.00 more!!!!! I asked why this was being handed to me day of procedure, she advised they can't SUBMIT it until 72 hours prior. I asked her to contact my Insurance she states she can't, I advised I would go to my car and contact them it came out to over 800.00 less. So I go back in and speak with office manager and she NOW gets on phone and calls Insurance Company. And as I am looking over the estimate I see their charges are different prior to any insurance being deducted, asked her why the difference there? She blames IT department (why are they handling insurance?) Then states it's done by codes. The Insurance company also advised they never put in a pre-authoraztion which should have been done, Office manager advised they don't do???? Lesson learned will verify prior. She lied so many times in the conversation she gave me a very bad vibe, would not let them do any procedure and I lost a day's pay and the $100.00 deposit they made me put down. He took his time explaining my X-rays, procedures that I would need and once I "okay'd" everything, he actually did whatever filling and onlay I needed immediately after! Had a set of xrays taken and scans, the dental tech did an exam and then the dentist came in... Told me I had gum infections and that I needed to replace 3 crowns.... when given the estimate the cleaning charge would be over $300 and each crown would be $1200. I was very suspect at this point because I have never slacked in my dental care so I decided to see another dentist. Fast forward one week, saw a different dentist and she told me, you dont have any gum disease and your dont have any pockets around your teeth ( sodo measured all as 4/5, she measured as 1/2s) and said she would recommend keeping an eye on one of my crowns ( which i knew from a previous dentist ) to replace when I had an issue with it and would cost a maximum of $500.... Yes, Sodo Smiles is a rip off and they are scamming people... No wonder there were no patients waiting in the office when I got there at noon. Please go somewhere they arent trying to scam you!!! Went in for a routine annual check-up and cleaning. Staff was very friendly and office was clean but it took over 2 hours just for the x-rays, exam and for them to fabricate an outlandish bill for treatment. They refused to do a basic cleaning because they said I needed a deep cleaning that would cost over $1000. Along with three cavity fillings that would be another $2300. It became very clear and evident this place was just a cash grab. They tried to push a plan of action on me that I didn't need and tried to make it seem dire. I take very good care of my teeth and have NEVER had any problems(minus a couple cavities). Prices for basic services were more than three hundred percent above what normal costs should be for the same services elsewhere. My wife and daughter went for a check-up as well and were given the same course of action, leading me to suspect they do that to everyone just to milk them out of money. I scheduled an appointment to have my teeth cleaned elsewhere for 75% less. I am for capitalism but not price gouging. read more
