I know Nona's is a chain in terms of ice cream and there are probably more local spots along the way towards Cape Cod (I'd happily go on an ice cream tour of the Cape, if such a thing exists) but this was an excellent pre-lunch snack. The entrance is tucked out of the way - just keep walking towards the water and you'll find it on the left side. If you start going into what looks like a tiny atrium between buildings, you made a wrong turn. The girls working behind the counter were super friendly and offered samples. We couldn't make heads or tails of some of the flavors like the Hurricane Madilyn or the Johnny Be Good so ended up with the Maple Grapenut and White Chocolate Raspberry. Both flavors were standouts. The Grapenut took me back to my childhood, with chunks of grape nut cereal mashed into the ice cream, and I love when raspberry flavors contain actual raspberry. Also, judging by how many people came in and out lugging the ice cream cakes, they must be good. Two tables indoors and a very clean bathroom, as well as lots of benches by the water to enjoy your cone. Parking: A huge lot right in front of the store. In terms of beach towns, Scituate earns some points for me for having lots of free parking for out-of-towners. read more

Traveling towards Cape Cod, along the ocean and looking for a specialty ice cream place and tried Nona's. It was hard to find in the building complex, only because we headed towards the sign. It is actually located between the theater and harbor. Lots of unique flavors. I tried the Mocha heath - deep flavor. Partner got the small cup, one scoop white chocolate chip and coconut chocolate chip swirl. Both were good,but he liked the coconut one better. I knew nothing about Nona's before trying this spot with friends after a dinner at a restaurant up the street. We actually were headed towards a different ice cream shop in town when we stopped a group of local kids and asked them which was better - they said Nona's so we turned around and walked in. Shop was very busy, but staff was pleasant and line moved fairly quickly. Only negative about our experience was that they seemed to be out of a lot of stuff (couple flavors of ice cream, couple sauces, at least one topping). I mean, I know they were busy, but running out of multiple things is kinda silly. In any event, we enjoyed our ice cream out on the small balcony overlooking the harbor, and it was an enjoyable experience overall. read more

Completely overrated. Use to be cool and fun but now it's just slow, indifferent, unfriendly teenagers dropping ice cream out a window. Their most fruitful skill is reaching out to grab tips. And guess what, if it's less than a dollar tip, you're gonna wait longer for that ice cream. Please, step it back up or close the doors. read more

One of the best icecream spots in Scituate! It's by the water and it makes for a wonderful view from the indoor seating and the lawn chairs in the porch outside (open in summers). They had an excellent spread and combinations of icecream like raspberry chip, coffee fudge and my favorite - Chocolate M&Ms. HAD to take two scoops in a waffle cone. Couldn't help myself. A bit of a pet peeve for me when the icecream dribbles out of the cone's end, so I LOVE the fact that the cones come with a paper holder outside the cone that catches the melted icecream without creating a mess. PHEWWW! There is ample comfortable seating indoors but since it was warm outside we decided to step out and sit by the benches overlooking the beach and the boats (just opposite the icecream parlor). read more

Ordered A coconut frappe said medium but young girl said oh there's just one size. The wait was extremely long about 15 mins waiting for a frappe when I got it, it looked like a size small and wasn't even filled to the top.........$6 was the cost and for the size of it, it should have been $3 maybe $4 at the most. We love Nona's! The service is always good, the location right on the water is always charming, and the ice cream is always delicious. I especially like the frequent flavor rotation and novelty--there's always something new to try. (Think banana ice cream or flavors featuring potato chips, pretzels and the like.) My only suggestions for improvement--I wish they had a smaller size option for milkshakes and my husband is sometimes aghast (lol) at the absence of a peanut butter chocolate type flavors. I think that's a staple for many people. Other positive tidbits--they have an ice cream truck that can be rented for events (would be so awesome for a summer bday party). And they did a cute little gift certificate package with the adjoining movie theatre around the holidays. Great idea, Santa even put a couple in our stockings! :) read more

Honestly the ice cream there was great. I always love eating there during the summer, and I'm glad it's right there in my hometown. I really do like the vanilla flavor there, it's my favorite. We love Nona's, especially in our hometown of Scituate. We got the ice cream truck for my niece's first birthday - it was simply amazing. Fantastic, friendly service. Great selection of ice creams, including sundaes and root beer floats. It was literally the hit of the party. It rolled up to our house and I asked if they'd pull up on the lawn -- our guests came out front and seriously, it brought everyone together. Everyone raved about the delicious ice cream - and loved the cool, well maintained truck. I 150% recommend this for a party...reunion, birthday, anniversary, graduation - anything haha.
