Talk about fresh! This French bakery had pastries and croissants galore. My husband and I ordered an almond croissant and Hurricane croissant (cranberry & walnut). The almond croissant was flaky and incredibly soft. The Hurricane croissant was packed full of flavor. Service was quick and the place felt bustling with energy. There are tables inside, but we took our food to go. There was no designated parking lot, but there were spaces outside or you can find other parking nearby. Upon entering this bakery audibly gassed at how delicious it smelled inside. We got a variety of treats as well as a ham and cheese croissant and everything was delicious. My wife's addidcted to the cinnamon croissants, and she got me hooked. The bagguettes are crisp and chewy, like i remember and in France. One sugeestion would to pull back on the Brie in the ham and chesse croissants. It overpowers the flavor of the jambon (ham). We never drive through Cohassett without stopping at Frencg Memories! There's nothing like the dopamine rush of eating a croissant midway through a bike ride along the coast but I was left feeling unsatisfied after the one I had at French Memories. My plain croissant, instead of being flaky and light, was very dense and tough. My jaw got a nice workout. They nailed the butter because the bottom seeped through the paper that it came wrapped in. I usually judge any French bakery by its OG plain croissant (see Colette in Medford) and this one fell short. (Maybe I got the wrong thing because my husband couldn't stop raving about his strawberry version and the other reviews keep mentioning the almond croissant.) I live in fear of this place closing. Honestly, Cohasset village would be very UNspecial without it. I have purchased lunches here when I first moved to town and sat outside and watched the kids arrive who bicycled up from sailing lessons. Recently, I purchased four little cakes (as samplers---they also had large cakes) for a friend's birthday as well as a vegetable quiche and two pieces of tart for a senior couple I was to visit. Both recipients have been gushing about the cakes/quiche/tart via text ever since. And the prices are what you would expect of premium products but no more. I have also purchased the molded salted butter, because it seemed so unlike anything we usually buy. And...the owners/staff members have French accents. Thank you, French Memories! read more

The best strawberry rhubarb cake and French brioche ham and cheese croissant. Driving up from the Hull, Massachusetts to Cohasset area was a pleasant trip to view more of the beach scenery. It was gorgeous and the trip at this local French pastry shop made the morning complete. The strawberry rhubarb was decadent and savory, like eating a ripe summer fruit. Same goes for my ham and cheese croissant. Flaky, crispy, spitfire roasted ham with a satisfying melted cheese perfection. Wow were we glad we didn't settle for fast food breakfast. Wonderful discovery! My mother, sister and I love finding new coffee shops in the Boston area. The lattes were perfect, not too sweet and not bitter at all. The Pastry and pies rival the most popular bakeries in the city. The pear almond tart and the berry tart was delicious. And highly recommend bringing home some of their homemade French bread and salted butter! Will not disappoint! I have to comment on the man who did not like the appearance of his thanksgiving berry pie and posted negatively... this IS what it is supposed to look like, and it tastes amazing. read more

I went here while on vacation with family. We needed bread for sandwiches and also really wanted coffee. I wouldn't have found French Memories if it weren't for Yelp, since I do not know the area of Cohasset very well. The interior is well decorated and feels authentically French. There are lots of pastries and tarts and a couple of bread choices. The chocolate croissants are delicious. The chocolate chip cookies were a little crunchy for my taste but still good. We got a loaf of the French country bread and it was fantastic. Light and airy and very fresh. The one issue was the coffee was not made correctly and took a while. I think the gentleman making them was still learning, and we were in no rush so it wasn't a big deal. I would recommend heading down the street to a coffee shop for coffee, but definitely get all your pastry and bread needs at French Memories. read more

I love this bakery, but it also has lunch options and take-home dinners. I was there just before Easter and they had some beautiful, special treats for both children and adults. One of my friends recommended this bakery in the South Shore. In turn, my brother and I went here for lunch last month. It was a little bakery in the center of Cohasset. I ordered a slice of roasted red pepper quiche and an almond croissant. The almond croissant was delicious and not too sweet. On the other hand, I was disappointed with the roasted red pepper quiche. I love roasted red peppers but I thought the pairing of the red peppers didn't go well with the quiche. Might be next time, I will stick with the Quiche Lorraine. read more

To get it out-of-the-way, this French Memories is different from the ones in Duxbury and Sharon. Those two are owned by a former partner of this original bakery. This one, however, is probably my favorite French bakery around and it's definitely worth the trek. They have a variety of foods, such as breads, chocolate truffles, pate, sandwiches, soups, and prepared meals. However, the croissants and tarts are what's best about the bakery. The prices are excellent and lower than most places around. The pain au chocolate is pretty nice, and so is the raisin croissant. However, the apricot (sunburn) croissant and the almond are the best. The sunburn's flavorful and buttery at the same time. The apricot is a very nice addition to the croissant. The almond croissant has a very nice almond filling with a buttery finish outside. But in general, you can't go wrong with any of their croissants. I've had their tarts several times and they're generally good. They're less fancy than ones at a place like Finale but definitely more authentic. The pear and almond tart is excellent, with neither part too overpowering. The apricot tart isn't too tart and isn't too sweet: great balance. The fruit tart is one of the better ones around, though it doesn't quite have as much fruit as other bakeries. However, the pastry cream is smooth and not too sweet. And whatever fruit it does have, it fits an authentic French fruit tart (apricots, various berries, etc.). Plus the pastry shell is delicate and not soggy. Don't go for the linzer tart though, as you should probably get that at a German/Austrian bakery instead. There's no almond/hazelnut taste to this bakery's offering of a linzer tart.. French Memories has a bit of a rustic, yet authentically French feel to it. That, the freshness, friendly service, lovely location, decent decor, and excellent prices gets a rare perfect score from me. Really cute bakery in down town Cohasset. They have beautiful croissants from plain to savory and sweet flavors. It's a really casual spot with indoor and outdoor seating. I don't have a huge breakfast tooth so I went for a great bakery sandwich with fresh baked baguette, Bri, lettuce, onion and some of the most spicy Dijon mustard I have ever had but I loved it. Our favorite coffee and pastry place. The coffee is strong but it does take a little time for it to be made--this isn't a fast food place! The pastries are outstanding especially the Napoleon and the chocolate tart. Almond croissants are delicious--plenty of soft sweet marzipan wrapped in a crisp flaky croissant. Rustic country bread is so good--for toast at home, it melts in your mouth. Sorry I don't live the sandwiches or cookies here. I have been eating at French Memories for years. Anything you get will be delicious, the staff especially the owners are lovely people. My only wish is that they had more upscale patisserie like a Parisian bakery. Don't get me wrong please, what they have is fantastic, but the beauty and the perfect precision and variety you see in Paris just isn't there. Not sure why...obviously they have the skill and the DNA. Oh well, excellent relaxed atmosphere to sit with your coffee, sandwich and treats. The plain croissant was very small and had a pool of butter on the bottom, greasy like. I also bought a dozen macarons and they are by far the worst macarons I've ever eaten. I've been eating here since it opened and this is the first time I've had something bad to say. I'm writing this because I'm worried people are going to get sick. The lettuce in my sandwich today was rotten and the pesto wasn't fresh. They also didn't toast it (first time that has happened) so these not so fresh flavors were even more evident in a big soggy bite I gagged on and had to spit out. I don't know if this because they now have more competition in town or if this was just an off day, but gross. read more
