This place has the most incredibly wonderful wine from dry to ports and everything in between. Family owned and operated, beautiful people. We've been to dozens of vineyards and winery's along VA wine trail and this is easily by far some of the finest wine we've had of all the varietals. Even types I don't normally care for were incredible here. Couldn't find one type we didn't like. They make it right there on premises. The owner was there making the wine and our tasting host was the son. We did three tastings of 19 wines plus a few extras and were more than impressed. Very welcoming to my friendly dog, but more importantly some of the best wine in NC...not just sweet muscadine wine, but a ton of fantastic red and white wines that reminded me of New England and California wines. So just know as others have stated, yes, the environment and look of Noni Bacca is very different than your traditional winery found in NC. It is definitely that beach town, low key, and let's drink vibe type spot. With that said, my aunt and I both got a tasting and shared so that we could try 14 wines (7 wines each). The pours were VERY generous. What we tried: Lots of Fruit Wines - Peach Splash, Peachberry (Peach Raspberry - definitely all raspberry in taste), Bacca Black (Blackberry), Bacca Blue (Blueberry), Cranberry, Strawberry Fields, Nice Melons (Watermelon), Pink Hooters (Grapefruit), and Black Cherry. All of their fruit wines were okay, except the strawberry fields as it tasted medicinal to me. Surprisingly the Nice Melons and Pink Hooters were my favorites of the fruit wines, with the peach rounding out the number three spot for me. Calypso Bianco - This is also one of their fruit wines, but I wanted to point out that it tasted like a mix drink - a wine version of a pina colada. The one to take to the beach! Dessert Wines: Chilly Bear (Riesling Ice Wine), Aurora Borealis (Cab Franc Ice Wine), and Dock of the Bay (Port Wine with Brandy). Loved both of their Ice Wines, they were my favorite wines of the tasting. They did a fantastic job with those, and they were definitely sweet! I wouldn't necessarily come out of the way for Noni Bacca, but I would definitely visit again if we were in Wilmington. Service was fun and inviting. Definitely had a great time! read more

I'm giving 2 stars only because the family that runs this place are kind and decent people. The wine is just not. Perhaps if you're a fruit wine drinker, you might feel differently about it than me. I only found one of the reds (Merlot) to be drinkable. They attempted to add basil to one of the red wines, and yuck. Any winemaker adding literally anything to the grapes is a disservice to the wine industry. Wine tells its own story and it doesn't require any additional details, especially herbs or spices. If you're a red wine enthusiast, don't bother. If you're a fruit wine enthusiast, maybe give them a shot. read more

Noni Bacca Winery was a very interesting experience to say the least. It is located in a strip mall, which didn't deter me in the slightest. The service was good and the atmosphere was incredibly inviting. However, this is where the positives end. Noni bacca offers an incredible selection of grapes, however they only bottle the grapes, and do not actually grow anything. My wife and I have been to tastings all across the country, and this experience was different than all the rest. We each did the nine tasting option. I tasted three whites, five reds, and one desert. All of the wines except for one bottle was already opened. The pourer would place a rubber stopper on the top of the bottle and use a pump to attempt to preserve the wine indefinitely. It did not work. All of the wines had gone bad and tasted vinegary, except for the Gewurztraminer which was opened in front of us. When the pourer brought out the Riesling there was a cork floating in the bottle. The owner informed the pourer that it wouldn't matter and to pour the wine anyway. Noni Bacca has won quite a few rewards and we assumed the off tasting wine was because they let oxygen into the bottles and do not open fresh bottles of wine daily. We decided to buy a bottle of wine and hoped it would taste better fresh. We could not have been more disappointed when we opened the bottle of wine and the cork showed signs of rot and the wine had gone bad. read more

Loved it here and I will totally be back soon! I went on a wine tasting Saturday with my girlfriend and it was our 3rd vineyard of the day. It was definitely the best one we went too! I loved the variety and I loved that they had normal grapes. The other vineyards had muscadine grapes and they were all to sweet, sugary for me. When we drove up to the winery we were a little thrown off because of their location but once we saw the wine menu we were happy! They buy their grapes from all over the world and that allows them to have many types of wine. I tried 6, well really 7. I got the Malbec and I did not like it at all, but the lady let me try a different red wine and I liked that one a lot more. It really enhanced my experience. Unfortunately my first exposure to Noni Bacca was the 5 star reviews, which excited me (especially the boasting of it being the best winery in Wilmington). Already going in with high expectations I was disappointed at the outcome of my visit. Let me first say the couple who own/run it and the tasting experience were enjoyable. Pour sizes were good and I was excited to see such a large selection. If I were to just rate it off of the experience and hospitality it would be a 4. However the cause for the 2 star review is the wine itself. I tend to be a dry drinker and stuck to those for my tasting. I found all of the wines I tasted to be a similar profile with very little body. The nose of the wines also seemed a bit off. I hate that the wine didn't live up to the rest of the experience but I still appreciate the hospitality of the owners. read more

I was excited to try such a highly rated winery in Wilmington, but sadly, Noni Bacca disappointed in the one category that really matters--the wine. Owned and operated by a great couple, the people are fantastic. the menu is extensive (though the grapes are brought in from all over the world). The tastings are fairly priced and the pour sizes are...generous. Unfortunately, none of the wines really hit the spot (I'm speaking of the more traditional offerings, as I did not try any of the fruitier, sweeter ones). Many of the wines, such as malbec or zinfandel, bore little resemblance to their namesakes from other regions (or even from NC wine country). They do offer several neat port-style wines, but even those couldn't save the experience. read more

We were actually tasting wine before noon - who does that - visitors do that! This is not a review of the quality of the product of Noni Bacca Winery, but rather a review of the behavior of management. My daughter needed to use the restroom and my wife was granted permission to use said restroom after shopping around the winery. After using the restroom and thanking the staff they left and went next door. The OWNER, left the winery, followed them into the thrift shop where my wife, 4 year old daughter, and mother-in-law were shopping and persisted to scold my wife for "breaking their toilet". After talking to the owner about this issue and explaining to her how upset she made my daughter (because my daughter explained to me what happened) she persisted to tell me she didn't care because this sort of thing happens all the time. Now, I am a U.S. Marine and I have a very clean household thanks to my wife. I find it very hard to believe that she "broke the toilet" and left without saying a word of it. Regardless of the situation the actions of the owner are absolutely unacceptable and could have and should have been handled with a lot more tact. read more

Such a good winery! They have a broad selection of wines to choose from, and they have two different tasting options. You could decided to purchase a glass or not. My boyfriend and I have been here twice. Both times, the staff was very friendly and helpful. They answered all of our questions about the wines, and gave us some history on some of the wines and the names. I really enjoyed the reds! So many of their wines have won awards, and I can see why! The atmosphere of Noni Bacca is great! When you walk in, they have a long bar on the left and then several smaller tables on the right and in the middle for people to sit and relax. What a wonderful place. There is no winery onsite it is a tasting room but it is so inviting and the owner Noni is such a great hostess. My sister and I went there for my birthday. Not only is there a great selection of wonderful wines, my favorite is the Petite Sirah, and we bought two. My sister enjoys the wine more than I do. Noni introduced me to the selection of Russian Beers they have. Excellent selection and excellent beer. When any family member or friends come to visit this is definitely a must stop for us. Noni had stories to tell about her family and she was just a wonderful person. A must do for anyone who enjoys wine and beer. They have a cheese, crackers and salami tray also. Our first time at the Nina Bacca Winery was a bar none experience! We have been to wineries in VA, CA, PA, and TX. And have gone to a few wine festivals. This tasting room had so many selections all made with great care and the medals to prove it. The best part was spending time with the owners Ken and Karla who are passionate about their craft.
