TL;DR/The Short Version: One of the very few Asian…read morerestaurants in Perth, ON. We got takeout. The Pad Ki Mow was tasty. No table service. The Long Version: My husband and I got takeout from The Hot Wok for dinner when we were staying in Perth. All their food is packaged as takeout, but they do have seating where you can eat your takeout food, just no table service. We decided to take the food back to our hotel room instead. We got the Bang Bang Chicken ($18.25) and the Shrimp Pad Ki Mow ($19.50). I called my order in and we walked there to pick it up. I was told it would take about 30 minutes to be ready. (They make everything to order.) We arrived after 30 minutes and our food was ready as promised. The lady on the phone was very courteous and I think she was the same lady at the pickup counter. The Bang Bang Chicken was listed on the menu as "Lightly breaded chicken tossed in a creamy honey sauce, on a bed of greens." It did not mention sesame seeds were sprinkled on top and I forgot to say "no sesame seeds" with my order so I was a bit disappointed that I couldn't really eat this dish, but that was on me. I was able to manage a few bites that didn't have sesame seeds on them (I can handle mild contamination) and I found the meat a bit dry, but the outside was pleasantly crispy and the honey sauce was pleasant. The "bed of greens" was actually raw shredded cabbage and carrots in a creamy sauce. I was asked how spicy I wanted this dish and I said medium, but it wasn't spicy at all, like not even mildly spicy, lol. Don't worry, the food didn't go to waste, as my husband ate it. The dish came with a small serving of steamed white rice. The rice was good, not too mushy nor too dry. The Shrimp Pad Ki Mow was tasty, albeit a tad too oily for me. It had 6 large shrimp, which were all properly deveined. They were plump and juicy. The dish also had broccoli, cauliflower, onions, carrots and Bok Choy. I was happy to see they were very generous with the vegetables. You have the option of having this dish with rice noodles or rice, I chose the noodles since that's what traditional Pad Ki Mow is. However, the noodles used were rather thin, like even thinner than traditional Pad Thai noodles. I like the wider noodles that typically come with Pad Ki Mow (or as I usually know it as, Pad Kee Mao). I was also asked what spice level I wanted this dish and I also said medium, and for this dish, it was a true medium as it had a spicy kick to it. They have their own private parking lot in front of the restaurant that is shared with their next door neighbour Jersey Joe's. Review #42 (2025)

I tried IC22 Hakka Spot for the first time with a few friends. Overall it was a pleasant visit,…read morejust not really my personal preference. A lot of the dishes tasted pretty similar to each other, and the noodles we ordered were quite salty. The soups were probably the highlight for us and the part we enjoyed the most. The chicken lollipop was a bit of a let down too, there wasn't much seasoning and it felt more like simple deep fried drumsticks with a dip on the side. Service was good, our server memorized the whole order without writing anything down which was impressive. It honestly felt like a one man show since he seemed to be cooking and serving too. It wasn't busy when we went so we didn't have to wait. We ordered a good amount of food and it came to around $150 plus tax and tip for five people, which is pretty reasonable. At the end of the day it just comes down to personal taste.

I heard about a new Hakka spot in town but have been hesitant to try it as all the other places…read morethat have had Hakka dishes haven't been that great and I've never returned. After a bit of craving from driving by Federicks's while in the GTA, I decided to give this place a try one night. I drove by and walked in to place an order at the counter. They mentioned it should be 15 minutes. The place was about half full and much more open and spacious if it's the place I'm thinking that it took over. About 15 minutes later I walked in and sat on the chairs. The person who took my order acknowledged me. After some significant time after I came in, I got my order and headed home as we wanted some take out. When I got home I checked on the order and it looked pretty decent. I will say, the portion sizes are much smaller than I recall from my favorite places in the GTA, however that was before the massive shrinkflation that has happened the last few years. I tried the chili chicken and honestly it wasn't to bad! Much better than anything else I've had in town. The noodles, I think there was some confusion about this order but I have to say that it tasted pretty decent and I did like that they put a ton of sauce on the side for us. All in all, if you have a craving, give this place a shot. I'll probably come by to try some other things in the future.

Ok, no problem, I got the Dinner 2B instead. The menu price was $30.95 but the price went up as I was charged $32.95. I get it, the Pandemic has been hard for some businesses. It took about 20 minutes, so I left and drove to a nearby cafe to get a drink. When I came back about 25 minutes later the food was ready and waiting for me. It was in a paper bag and stapled at the top. I put it in my trunk and drove home. When I got home, I opened my trunk and the paper bag was wet and ripped. Some of the containers were rolling around in my trunk. The soup had leaked and the inside of my trunk was wet with broth. I was very thankful that I asked to have the Wonton soup instead of the Hot and Sour soup. I think the latter would have been a bigger mess. So I brought the food into the house and I saw that there was a small hole in the lid of the soups. Gah! I guess this is good for venting of the soup, but very bad for transport! If you get takeout from this place and get soup, make sure you secure the bag, so it stays completely upright. Anyway, the food itself was ok overall, some dishes were better than others. The Wonton soup was pretty good. You get 2 wontons per soup. There was a good amount of filling (ground pork), so they weren't mostly wrapper. The broth had green onions and Chinese cabbage in it. It was not too salty. The General Tao Chicken had a spicy kick to it, which I liked. It was all dark meat though, but not too gristley at least. The batter was a bit soggy. However, the flavour was good. This dish did not contain any vegetables. The Hunan Beef was a bit chewy. It too had a nice spicy kick to it. This dish had lots of vegetables in it: broccoli, onions, carrots, water chestnuts, celery, green peppers, and baby corn. It also had mushrooms. The chicken fried rice was mostly plain fried rice, with a few small pieces of chicken here and there. It was ok. The spring rolls were also ok, but nothing to write home about. It had ground pork and onions in it. Overall, not a bad meal, but I personally did not find it anything special that would make it stand out in a crowd. Although, it's not a bad choice if you live in the area. I noticed that they do sell dim sum, which is not that easy to find in Ottawa, let alone the suburbs of Ottawa, so they do have that going for them. The restaurant is in a strip mall with free parking.

They have a good selection and apps and also noodles which are more individual meal portions but we decided to share and try everything. On Tuesdays, they have yakitori and I would love to come back to try that. The scallop crudo was lightly seasoned and fresh. I feel like it could have used a bit more citrus but overall it was good! The Korean fried chicken wings/drums were saucy, with something that tasted like a gochujang based sauce, as well as a ranch with dill. I didn't really taste the miso in the ranch too much, but I did enjoy the flavour profile. We also had the chicken karaage, which was lightly breaded and fried, and paired with a mayo. It was ok but a little plain. Next, we had the dan dan noodles. Dan dan noodles are traditionally very chewy have a nice bite to them but these noodles are a bit on the softer side. The flavour profile was good though. Lastly, we had the beast ramen. The smoked pork belly was nice and crisp and the soft boiled egg was nicely cooked. The noodles seem to be the same ones used in the dan dan noodles. It was enjoyable but the broth wasn't exactly ramen broth that I am used to. I would say that overall it was enjoyable, and prices were reasonable. Service was great. But there is definitely some room for improvement on the dishes. I would consider this more Asian fusion than a noodle bar.
