Third time review. Thai dinner for two tasty. Arrived at my house hot. However, the lack of fresh sautéed vegetable in both the thai noodles and chicken were disappointing. I'm fussy. Uniformity of vegetable size insures balanced a balanced stir fry process. Both varieties of carrot strips and half moons were in my thai curry. Slow down cut your vegetables the same way it would be a Chef's presentation. Exceptional dishes include: peach shrimp. spring rolls and a fresh spinach/mango/cucumber salad to die for. If you want great Chinese stick to the house highlighted dishes. Great for Stittsville. Delivery Man was kind enough to bring food to my kitchen counter as I broke my right arm. Haven't been in awhile. Ordered for pick up, the house fried rice, for the added protein. $19 plus tip. The meat was barely there and the rice seemed steamed and nowhere near fried. I had to ask for soy sauce, fortune cookie. No napkins in bag. No chili sauce I had asked for. The service for pick up was fine but mechanical. I don't know why I keep tipping for mediocre. This place is AMAZING. We have never dined in, only take out, but it is always excellent! The bbq pork (juicy, flavourful and just right) fried wontons (crisp and savoury), crispy beef (had a great hit your buds savoury tang) and the crispy chicken (there was a flavour I've never experienced in a crispy chicken before to my delight!) And all of these are delicious! Sooo good! And the burnt end egg rolls are perfect!, as good if not a bit better than golden palace. IMO Though the plum sauce is just ok. Service is always quick and efficient. Anyone we have dealt with either on the phone or at the counter has been great! You CAN NOT go wrong eating from here!!! Really hope this place stays open for a very long time and we will be happy to be loyal for a very long time. This is one of those places that you want to be able to say you've gone to for 20 years or more. read more

My husband and I had dinner here the other night. The place is not that big and we didn't have reservations, so we had to wait about 20 minutes or so (it was a Friday night). There's a tiny little waiting area near the back of the restaurant. We started off with the egg rolls. They are open-ended and were quite tasty. They were a little too salty, but they were flavourful and not overly greasy. Then for our mains we had the Spicy Kungfu Beef, Shrimp Harmony and Pad Thai. Note that the dine-in prices are a little bit higher than on the take-out menu (which is also the only menu available to view online). Not by much, maybe $0.50 to $2.00 depending on the dish. The Spicy Kungfu beef (described as "blue belt spicy" i.e. medium) was not all that spicy. It was our first time there, so I wanted to see what their regular medium spice was (as I've ordered "medium" at some other restaurants and my mouth was on fire). Had I known what it is here, I would have ordered it "black belt spicy" i.e. hot. This dish was ok, but I wasn't too crazy about it. The batter was not as crispy as I would have liked. It bordered on soggy. Portion size was good, note that all you get is the battered and deep fried beef, there are no veggies in this dish. The Shrimp Harmony was certainly an interesting dish. It is battered and then deep fried shrimp in a creamy peach sauce with peach slices. It is served on a bed of deep fried vermicelli noodles. There were 2 pieces of broccoli and a slice of carrot as garnish (these were our only vegetables for the meal because we thought that the beef and shrimp dishes would come with veggies, as most places add veggies as fillers, but surprisingly not Kingfu Bistro). This dish is very sweet - almost cloyingly sweet. However, it was unique and different from anything I've ever tasted before. The Pad Thai was probably my favourite of them all. I love the fact that they use crushed almonds instead of peanuts. They also sprinkle they call it "roasted garlic" but it tasted like pieces of fried garlic (you know like those fried onions in green bean casseroles, or on burgers?) on top of the Pad Thai. There was plenty of medium-sized shrimp. There was also chicken and eggs. There was no tofu filler. We had also requested no bean sprouts or cilantro, which they accommodated readily. The Pad Thai is described as "strong blue belt spicy" i.e. medium-hot. It had a bit of kick to it, but I could have easily tolerated more (and I'm no heavy-weight when it comes to spice). There was a slightly stronger fish sauce smell and taste to it than at most mainstream restaurants, but it was not off-putting or anything. It was quite tangy and sweet and I enjoyed it. The service was excellent. Everyone was really nice and attentive. They re-filled our waters without us having to ask. A lady who I think might have been the owner, or maybe a manager, came up to our table and chatted with us a bit. She said that she noticed that all the dishes we ordered were on the sweet side. I commented that I didn't realize that until the dishes came out and we tasted them. She asked if we wanted to order something more savoury and less sweet to balance everything out, gave us some recommendations and said that they could whip it up really fast, but we declined. Since the portions were a good size, we had leftovers. We asked them to pack up the dishes to go. When we got home we noticed that they even labelled the containers. What a nice touch! Spice levels are on the tame side, so if you like spice, go hotter than the default. And remember to order vegetables, because the meat dishes (at least the ones we ordered) don't have any vegetables as fillers. The Pad Thai doesn't have vegetables either - although Pad Thai usually doesn't, but I've had Pad Thai with anything from green and red peppers to baby corn to broccoli in it (!) It's in a strip mall so there is a lot of parking available. The decor is "Kungfu" so Bruce Lee stuff and Kungfu figurines all around. I have to chime in here: Kung Fu Bistro is now a go-to place for me! It was really yummy tasty food, a combination of Asian styles. And of course the funky décor with the Bruce Lee pictures! I don't care what they call it - just keep the good food coming! To begin with, I was looking for soup and not breaded and fried foods (the weather is getting colder!) and this restaurant topped the bill. In the end, they don't offer as many soup selections as a restaurant that does Pho only, but they have quite an eclectic menu! It was surprising to me, and I had a hard time deciding at first what to get. In the end, I chose a variety, knowing it would be too much food for 1 meal. I was looking for leftovers for lunch, and I got it! But in the future, I will remember that this order can easily serve 2 people... if you don't expect leftovers! I ordered the mixed vegetables and they were done just right: a little softer than raw, and not overcooked. The waitress was great! She was attentive and right on track: She suggested I order rice as the veggies have a sauce on them, and I did. It wasn't expensive ($1.50) and there's so much in that basket! The rice was just plain steamed sticky rice. Perfect for this meal! And I had a yen for Naan Bread (I know! Indian food in an Asian Restaurant??! Well, really I guess it goes) the Naan had a bit of pungent garlic on it, without being overpowering. Overall, the restaurant is not huge - maybe 10 tables? But they do a booming business in take out! I will have to bear this in mind next time I want to order and eat at home. On the other hand, I need to eat here more often, to get to know the menu better so that I know what to order!!! I will definitely be back. Why did I wait so long?? read more

Ordered for the first time since new ownership via Uber Eats. We paid $45 for two bowls of noodles. Digging through it found four small pieces of chicken and two pieces of julienne carrots. We were on the hunt for some good chinese food. We are from the states, and have had really good more than likely Americanized Chinese food. From the minute the sweet mild mannered waitress came to great us and ask if we had been there before. She began to explain that they do chinese differently also they have some Thai and Asian fusion. The Tom Tum Goon(traditionally has a spicey broth, chicken or shrimp and some mushrooms) the description had pineapple??!! I said please take that out. My sons ordered lomein..these noodles looked bland and had no flavor. My husband ordered Kung Pao Chicken. They spelled it Kung Pow chicken...it was nothing like we had expected..my daughter asked if they had orange chicken, she said they had lemon chicken and some kind d of peaches and cream sauce, WTF??? $114 canadian dollars later we left, and I said no one ever ask for Chinese while we are in another country! read more

My previous experience with them was through takeout and the food was great! Sashimi was very fresh. Went there in person for the first time today and the food was fine but service was abysmally slow. Arrived at their door at 14:55. Store hours read 15:00 to 22:00 on a Saturday. The door was locked and all interior lights off until the cashier showed up at 3:05pm. My party of 2 was the second table seated. Only got to order at 3:30. Ordered 2 items: a dumplings app and a sushi roll. Got the app 20min later and it took another 20min to get the roll. Left at 4:17pm, 1 1/4 hrs for 2 items total. To me, one of the best tests of a restaurant is not how they treat you the first time, but what happens the second or third or fourth time you come for a visit. Is the food as good as you remember? (Or maybe it's much better!) Do the staff remember you? I've been to Kungfu Bistro several times now, and I'm pleased that they are consistently wonderful. Good food, attentive staff and a menu that doesn't take itself too seriously. I've never had a bad meal here. Up until last night this was my absolute favorite take out meal. Maybe because I ordered very early after they opened, I usually order later . The Lemon chicken and General Tao's chicken were extremely stringy and chewy (a very long way from fresh). We were only able to eat the rice and spring rolls and tossed the rest. I called to express my disappointment and was told all meals are made fresh. Yes the meal may have been freshly prepared, the problem was that the chicken that was used was way past its prime.. Excellent excellent excellent food, and customer service! My boyfriend and I have ordered from Kungfu Bistro twice now, and it won't be the last time! The first time we ordered pretty close to closing time, but the girl who I ordered from said to start driving as soon as she finished taking my take out order. I thought it was rather strange, but we did anyway. Good thing we did, because it only took 10 minutes to get there, buttt it was ready when we got there! We got a few different dishes - but the only one I can really remember is the peaches and cream chicken - it was absolutely to die for! I was in Kanata for a conference and so many people were raving about this place. Four of us ventured out and it was certainly worth the trip. The lady who greeted us turned out to be the owner, she was absolutely charming and when she heard we were from out of town she started showering us with small samplers to get our taste buds churning. She had created a cheeseburger spring roll which was crazy and amazing. We ended up letting her order for us and had a crazy good feast, she only charged us $60 for about one hours worth of food. We all waddled out very full and happy. - Thai beef basil and maple pork were our table favourites. Everything was amazing and we will all be back if we find ourselves in the area again. read more

I don't write many reviews (on Yelp or any other sites) but a great experience deserves to be called out. Our family of five arrived here around 7 and the place was hoping. A couple of people waiting for take out and most of the tables full. While we waiting our turn my wife found they had some comic books including Avatar so my kids were kept happy looking at them Nice item #1. There was one four top available but a couple of the staff stopped to rearrange things to fit us all. Nice little item #2. The waitress came right over after we were seated and got us drinks. They have a 2 craft beers from local Covered Bridge brewery. My wife had the Amber Rose and I the Dirty Blonde.Nice item #3 We ordered quickly and the food started arriving soon after. The Pork dumpling appetizers in a Maple infused sauce were the best I've ever had. The Chicken Harmony with it's peaches and cream sauce is also excellent. The only issue we had was with the Cantonese Lo Mein which was a little salty. When we mentioned that at the end of the meal as why we weren't taking that dish the waitress mentioned it to the kitchen and they fixed it up. Not sure what they did but we will try it for lunch tomorrow. Either way a nice touch for a dish we had written off. Great staff, food and ambiance. read more

We have frequented Kungfu Bistro since it opened. Every single time we have experienced amazing service and top quality fresh food. We dine in and do take out. We even had them cater my parents 60th Anniversary party last summer and signed our kids up to the meal program at school where they get fresh steamed veggies, chicken and rice for lunch twice a month. We have celebrated many birthdays and anniversaries there and it is the place my elderly parents ask for to bring in or go to when they are well enough to dine out. The veggies are always so fresh. When you eat in you get the perfect not too cooked bite to the veggies. We always get extra egg rolls...there is usually a fight for them at our house! We love that they will spice up items for our hot and spicy lovers in the household and we can't forget the Shrimp Harmony! oooooh the shrimp Harmony. When I go visit people I sometimes stop off and pick up a couple of orders of Shrimp Harmony as a "hostess gift" and I tell you...even though it was a bite of a joke the first time...I am not allowed back without it now!!! lol If you want a happy group ...get Kungfu Bistro. read more

I had high hopes, but admittedly low expectations for this place. Most Chinese places in the burbs will cater to the nearby families who like chicken balls, garlic spareribs, and no spice whatsoever. Which makes sense if that's how they are going to make their money. You aren't going to get a Chinatown-style restaurant in Stittsville. Period. But every place is worth a try. We came in for a pre-noon lunch and were the only ones in the restaurant. The place is nicely decorated. It's brightly lit, and not cramped. No complaints about the atmosphere. I was happy to see that the dine-in menu has more items than the take-out menu. I had picked up a take-out menu earlier in the week and was disappointed to see all the same fare you see at all other Chinese take-out places. But the dine-in menu has a few interesting items, like hot-plates and hot-pots and some interesting starters and other dishes. The servers were very polite and enthusiastic. They took the time to take us through the menu and explain some of the items to us. Our order was accurate and prompt. So no complaints about the service, either. Me and my brother ordered three dishes plus steamed rice. We got the Kunfgu beef, the seafood medley hot-plate, and the 3-mushroom+baby corn chicken. The kungfu beef was your standard crispy beef dish with a house sauce. I thought it was okay. It tasted fresh and flavorful, but it was nowhere near as spicy as I thought a "blue belt" item was going to be. I assume (hope!) they can make it spicier if asked. But it was just alright. The seafood hot-plate was pretty good. They serve it on a searing hot skillet with fresh stir-fried veggies and shrimp/scallops/mussels. I really liked the mushroom and corn chicken. I believe you can get the M&C mix with any kind of meat, and I found there was a surprising amount of flavor coming from the veggies alone. Neither of those two items came doused in sauce. And nothing at this restaurant is cooked with MSG. So they really rely on the meat and veggies for flavor in the sauce-less dishes. I'd say it works pretty well. When I want a stir-fry dish, I expect to taste mainly the veggies and meat. The lack of MSG was noticeable. I noticed I was not regretful and half-dead when I was done eating as I normally am after Chinese. Overall, I would call the food "good". Fresh, hot, quality ingredients, and nice presentation. My main complaint is with the price/portion size. Our three dishes + rice came to $48.50. I would normally expect to pay that much, I guess, but I'm OK with it because I assume I'm carrying home leftovers. However, the portions sizes were small enough that my brother and I had no trouble finishing everything. We were full and satisfied, but no leftovers to take home. Perhaps we're just fatasses, but I swear that most Chinese places are more generous with their portions. It left my wallet stinging, that's for sure. I gave it four stars because the food was fine, and the effort was definitely there. It "felt" healthier than most Chinese places and it is definitely better than any other Chinese place in Stittsville. I'll probably visit again because they have a few other interesting items I'd like to try. But I'll probably wait until I'm feeling wealthy again. read more

A delight to all my senses! The owner of Kungfu Bistro knows food, and food pairing and what foods will provide an overall sensory experience from the colours and the sounds of the hot plates sizzling to the sweet and savory and spicy flavours for your palate. After dumplings (best I've ever had) and edamame (yum), we tried the spicy beef signature dish - which had a sweet spicy thing going on (party in your mouth) and the lemongrass vedgie dish was an explosion of fresh lemongrass. We have been led to try out new foods by the staff and the owner and have enjoyed them all. Varied menu offering different types of Asian-food (Chinese, Thai, etc.). They have these awesome fried dumplings that are served with a maple glaze sauce. OMG! Sooo good. We also ordered two main dishes, one of chicken and one of rice. The chicken was good, but the rice was only so-so. It was served wrapped in a leaf (banana?) and had a smoky taste for some reason. This used to be a great place to eat. Recent staff changes have ruined the quality of service. It's almost like they are trying to ruin your experience. The food has gone from great to good. Portion sizes have shrunk and the staff don't take any feedback. They give lip service and send you on your way. We've asked our friends who also felt things have gone south so it's not just us talking. I've been trying to be patient but there has been a consistent pattern in our last couple of visits. Took an out of town guest there and even when that went wrong too, it was the last straw. Won't be going back until they clean up their act. Best Chinese food in west Ottawa. We order our here all the time but they also have a beautiful restaurant. Egg rolls are fantastic.

For quite sometime we had entertained the idea of giving this Bistro a try, but we always gave in to the temptation of playing it safe by choosing our favorite eateries, but last might we decided to be adventuresome and we went to Kungfu Bistro. We now have a new favourite. The service was just right, not in your face but there when you needed something. Fast service, that had beautiful presentation and tasted great....we will return. read more

Joined yelp to give a review to this restaurant. My family and friends always rave about how great the take-out is at this spot so we normally order Chinese from here, however until a couple of weeks ago I had never dined in... Honestly, we were pleasantly surprised! The server was great, extremely attentive and knew the menu very well, when she brought over the food (we ordered thai soup, mango salad, and sushi.. yes, sushi.. Which was very creative and tasty!) she carefully and eloquently explained all of the ingredients on the plate. The food was really good, not really a surprise since we has ordered from there before.. but what did surprise me is the size of the dine in menu! I didn't realize they offered sushi and other Asian inspired dishes in addition to the traditional western Chinese food. I don't eat meat, which can be tricky at some restaurants but they were very open to this modifications in their curry soup dish, which was really nice, also a clear indication of how fresh the ingredients are. Will continue to order take-out from here and hope to dine in again soon! read more
