I entered with some trepidation as I had called to find out if they were busy (not too bad I was told), whether they had take out (nope) and if they had beer and wine (yes, but limited selection). Being a Saturday evening and unencombered, I thought I would give it a shot anyway. The place is small and it was full. I was directed to the waiting area (chairs in the hallway, towards the back), and I didn't see this ending well. I imagined a group of people leaving as another group came in and they would get the space as we (a party of 4 and I) sat in limbo. Happily this wasn't the case. Well, one group left while another came in but the staff was quick to direct them to the waiting area and I was rather quickly seated at the chef's table (bar area where you can see the chef cooking). I am not sure of his name but the entire staff calls him Chef and he reportedly graduated from CIA so chef it is. The menu is simple, some appetizers, a few noodle dishes, and one dessert. To put the alcohol discussion to rest, they have four or five beers, including Kirin and Tsing Tao, so that is fine; and a selection of wines from Jackson-Triggs, a Niagra vineyard, and you won't be disappointed. I had the Peking ribs and the Pho. Both were excellent. The five spice was present but not overpowering and the hoisin sauce was really nice. The Pho was also excellent, but served with the Thai basil, bean sprouts, and peppers are already in the soup instead of being served on the side, to be added by the consumer. I think this is smart, govern the size of the place (not a ton of room for extra bowls, and I think it is a good way to keep food costs down. Believe me though, they don't skimp! I had the creme brûlée, and have to say I liked it, even though it was a bit denser than I am accustomed to. It is served with berries and if you get this, by all means have the ice wine! Taken together this is a fantastic dessert. A final note about this Noodlezip - well two notes. First, the prices are so reasonable! You can get a great noodle lunch for about $12! Ok, that is with water and no tip so it will be a bit more, but that is still very reasonable. Second, I will be back to this place. One of the best places to dine in Bismarck! There's not many unique, tasty restaurants - but this is one and one of my staples. Specifically, I go here for the delicious vegetable dumplings. If there's one thing I'd change it would be the hours (sometimes inconsistent). Lastly, I have had pho all over the world and I have to say that the pho here is not bad at all! I enjoyed this cozy little place! It is something very unique to the Bismarck area and is conveniently located downtown! I had a nice hot bowl of pho, which was pretty good! It wasn't the best pho I've ever had, but still pretty delicious. It was expensive for what it was, but I am pretty sure it is the only place in Bismarck that offers it! My boyfriend had one of their noodle dishes with chicken. Much like the ramen, it was pretty good but overpriced. Overall we ended up spending around $60 for the two of us to have lunch after tip. Despite the high prices, I would recommend checking this place out at least once! read more

NoodleZip gets 4 stars bc I've only been there once, but this place was killer. REALLY good noodles, high quality stuff. The chef didn't skimp on the meat or fresh veggies either. I got the Eggplant Dan Dan which was a joyous and punishing experience. Chef did not go light on the Szechuan peppers which I appreciated. Tears of joy and pain rolled down my cheeks while my lips tingled. My mouth finally went numb which allowed me to shovel down more and more. Still, I could not finish the generous portion so I'm taking it home for dinner. Waitstaff were extremely nice, knowledgeable and professional. Place has a warm, welcoming vibe. Eat here for sure. The food was good, but also pricey. My husband and I had Pho bowls (About $15/each) and creme brûlée ($8) for dessert. The service was fine but we felt rushed to eat and pay for our food. The night we went, it wasn't even busy. While eating we were asked if we wanted dessert, I said yes, and right away we were given the bill even before we were halfway into our Pho bowls and before dessert was served. The ladies working behind the bar asked 3 times while we were eating if we wanted our dessert yet. Because we were still working on our Pho, we didn't dig in our pocket for the payment, but after the ladies dropped the bill off, they looked to see if we have paid 2 times! Like I said, the food is good, but they stand by their brand by trying to zip you out the door and rush you through service. Pricing is a difficult challenge for restaurants. In the Pacific Northwest this establishment could not exist with $5 for a cup of tea and $15 for the Pho. Perhaps the noodles and broth are world class but we would never know as we were absolutely floored at the pricing for the tea we had already ordered. I finally had a chance to returned after experiencing the fare during the soft opening. The Menu remained largly unchanged, which was slightly dissapointing. Staff was curtious, but it was painfully apparent that they are new to the serving industry, not to mention an Asian establishment. I order the Vietnamese Pho, as it is my favorite dish. It came preassembled unlike more traditional vietmanese restaurants which tend to serve the garnishes such as Thai basil, beansprouts, and jalapeno peppers on the side for you to add fresh to the hot soup. The soup base was flavorful but lacking some more exotic flavor elements, as tendons, tripe, Asian meatballs were missing from the selection. The meal was overall a good ecperience. I'm glad that Bismarck finally has a place that serve higher caliber Asian fares. But note that the price tag reflects that. For Pho and Ramen, this place almost charges double of that from any reputable restaurant in a major city. NoodleZip is your ONLY choice, so monopoly will reign supreme, for now... As a restaurant owner I'm going to be as fair as possible here and I don't want this to turn you off from trying the place out because you will most likely have a much better experience than I did. I ordered the pad Thai which could have been good had the noodles not been undercooked but more on that later. First I need to address how I was treated. I simply asked the woman helping us, I believe the manager, (shoulder length dark hair mid 30's to 40's) "how's the pad Thai?" She literally drops her head and rolls her eyes and and condescendingly says "umm it's fantastic!" in a way making me feel like that's a stupid question and she's sort of annoyed but more so in a "everything we do is amazing how dare you ask". I let it go and proceed to look over the menu. It was cold where we were sitting so we relocated form the bar informs of the entrance to another table in the corner. This seems to have annoyed her and she asks in a make wrong way "so you're moving tables?!" Ummmm yes we are. (There's only two other parties in the whole place at this point. I let that one go. My sister is at the counter and tells the woman we both want the pad Thai so I quickly go up to the counter because I want to ask about level of spiciness, the woman quickly cuts me off before I can say anything by popping up a finger and saying "one second" without even looking at me in an annoyed "oh not you again" tone. When she can finally grant me the time of her important day she asks what I want. I simply ask if there is a spicy scale on the pad Thai. She abruptly cuts me off and says "it's not spicy!!" an her tone indicates this is the end of our communication and that's ll I need to know is that it's not spicy and please stop with my annoying questions because she is too busy being arrogant about how amazing of a new food establishment she is a part of. At this point I'm completely taken back but holding back what I want to explain to her. I simply replied Ina surprised way "oh.. it's not spicy at all?" She looks at me even more annoyed and says very condescending "this isn't a Thai restaurant!! It's NOT spicy!! If you want spice I'll give you something on the side!!" And then gestures she has no more time for me and my naive uncultured questions. At this point I want to walk out and never come back but I stay for my sisters sake and stick with it. Now I might be biased when it comes to service in a restaurant. You see what the woman doesn't know is she is dealing with someone that co-owns a top rated Thai restaurant in Florida that has all 5 stars on Yelp and 4.9 out of 5 on Facebook with hundreds of reviews, including for our amazing customer service. That aside, anyone with any sense of basic service and manners would not talk to new guests so condescending and flat out rude. I don't care how great you think your new cultured and trendy venue in a small, not so cuisine experienced town is, you still need to treat customers like people or they won't return, pretty simple. That all said, everyone else was very friendly. The pad Thai had GOOD flavor that I would return for when I am visiting Bismarck but it's not top pad Thai. As mentioned before the noodles were also not cooked enough and were tough in the middle but this could be a fluke so not sure if they are usually prepared correctly? I will give them another try on my next regular visit but if I get the same treatment a second time I'm done. Couple tips, pad Thai is the most famous Thai dish, offer people the option to have it prepared spicy, simple to do and only makes sense Get the condescending woman to see what kind of effect her demeanor will have on the business, it's a small pond in Bismarck so be a nice fish and then you can enjoy being the new trendy big fish in the small pond, those long hallway wait lines can always go elsewhere, especially when the next new great thing comes along. I went to Noodlezip for the first time today. Not only was the staff so polite, knowledgeable and amazing but I had the best meal that I have had in a long time! I ordered the Cantonese Egg Noodle plate and I couldn't stop eating it. It was so delicious! When I finally did quit, I still had half of it left so I got 2 meals for the price of one. I may actually go get dinner-to-go after work today!! I did notice one review gave less than 5 stars because they had no Vietnamese rolls which the people were obviously looking forward to.
