We loved our first rug from Noor and Sons so much we decided we needed to go back for a second. These are utilitarian, beautiful, unique pieces of art. And--we can confidently say, now that we've had our first for almost two years--these rugs are also very durable! They hide dirt amazingly well, disguise spills, and so far we don't see any wear on our first rug despite it being in a high traffic area. I'm sure these rugs will show their age over time, but that will only add to their appeal. We also love the rug pads Noor and Sons use. They have just the right amount of give underfoot and do not slide at all on our wood, and now linoleum, floors. The custom cut rug pads alone lend so much value to shopping with Noor and Sons. Our 8'x10' wool living room rug had been heavily soiled by years of traffic over a portion of the rug. Noor & Sons arranged for pick-up and delivery and washed the rug. The rug was returned in new condition (even better-than-new). All traces of traffic grime were gone, and the rug was uniformly clean across its entire surface. The richness and brilliance of the colors were completely restored. Very fast service too. We will be returning with all our remaining rugs for cleaning. They cleaned a rug I had acquired and brought to them. We looked at the rug before and after, identifying some spots that needed special attention. Viewing it after the cleaning it is startlingly bright, it's colors clear and consistent. Noor Kahn is very knowledgeable about rugs and has been able to give me a backstory on several rugs I have brought to him for cleaning. I just bought my second rug from Noor & Sons and I'm so happy with it. Noor is so easy to work with, and he has his entire inventory in his head so when you ask for a certain color or style he knows just what might be the right rug for you. I brought home four rugs to try out and one of them was just right. Noor works directly with artisans in Afghanistan and elsewhere to make rugs in diverse styles and sizes, all using natural dyes and high-quality wool. By far the best experience I have had in a rug store! I recently bought a new home and needed to purchase several rugs. After a few head spinning experiences at other stores, I found Noor & Sons. The store is beautiful, the service is exceptional and the inventory is fairly vast - don't let the seemingly small store fool you; they pack a lot of great product in and make it such a pleasure to review. They had so many beautiful rugs that it was hard to choose. NO PROBLEM; they offered to bring a few to my home (at my convenience, no less) and, once here, never pressured me to buy. Noor has such a good eye, however, that, of the six large rugs he brought for one room, I was torn between 5 of them! That's how well he listened! He was so generous with his knowledge and design sensibilities and my home looks better for having his help! In total, I purchased 5 rugs over a couple of months and I never felt pressured or that my equivocation in making up my mind was irritating to Noor or his staff. The prices were very fair and,here's the great part about that: they were fair right off the bat with no need to haggle about it. I have already referred several friends and, as a realtor, I would not hesitate to refer clients to this great store where I know they ill be treated so well. We (husband, daughter and I) had such a fantastic experience at Noor that I wished I had a mansion -- more rooms, more rugs! The ones we bought have subtle gradations of color and charming patterns of animals and trees. They are sturdy, feel good on bare feet, and perfectly cleanable in case of pet accidents (we have three dogs). Other reviewers have praised Noor's service quality. I agree 100% -- it's top-notch. He brought the rugs to our house for an "audition" and his expertise helped us make perfect choices. At no point was there any hurry or pressure to buy. Excellent. I can't say enough good things about this company; they were prompt, polite, professional, and provided an excellent service with full disclosure on risks and costs. I originally went in to have my expensive Persian carpets cleaned, having not cleaned them since I got them during deployment to the Middle East. They delivered my carpets on time, on budget, and I was so happy with their service that I went back and had them cut carpet pads for all the rugs. This place was pretty much a dream come true! I had been looking for a 4 X 6 Turkish or Afghani rug of a certain color and price range for almost a year. Either I'd see what I liked at an outrageous price, or I'd see lesser rugs that I could afford. Then I walked in here, already assuming that the beautiful corner location of the store would mean inflated prices. I couldn't have been wronger! I found the perfect red and black rug for under $400 with the kindest, zero pressure sales help. I took the rug home on trial and it was perfect. Noor & Sons Rug Gallery provided one of the best buying experiences I've had although I had initially been worried about a possibly high-pressure atmosphere in a shop with gorgeous rugs hanging everywhere. I'd been told they had, weekly, an item outside that would be on special sale and, walking by, I saw that week's special and thought that it would be almost ideal for the wall hanging I needed to absorb sound from a baby grand piano that had to be against a corner wall (which acts as a amplifier of sound, with more bass accentuated). However, it was long -- more a runner rug -- and I would have wanted it had it been shorter and if I could get another short one like it, that I could hang alongside it. Noor said if that's what I wanted, they could cut it and make two finished pieces from it. I then told him I'd first need to get some people who are able to move an 800-lb piano enough to work in that area before I could have them come to put up the rugs. He recommended that Noor & Sons just move that heavy piano while installing the rug. When I asked how much this would cost in labor, he said this would be an included service when purchasing the rug. The 'restoration' type work of making two separate pieces from that rug would also be included in the cost shown on the sales tag. He wasn't kidding. I decided to also use, for the other wall, a 3' x 5' wool rug I'd bought in southeastern Turkey in 2004 but I needed it thoroughly cleaned first. After checking prices in the bay area for careful cleaning of rugs of this type (fragile), I saw that Noor's price was very reasonable. So, I went with this plan after hearing some of his family's history and realizing the depth of knowledge he has and the amazing service he was offering. I really liked his low-key manner. He was able to identify the regional area I was in when I bought the older rug 11 years ago and also which tribe had made it. I took my time deciding, though, and he left me alone to think about it. No pressure. Noor is a real gentleman and was very helpful when delivering the rugs. His hanging of the rugs, after moving the 800-lb piano (alone!) was done well and all in all, he is just excellent to work with. He kept in good touch via email while customizing my new rug and during thorough cleaning of the old one and hung both of them on the walls for me. I did want to pay him something for all that added work (for a relatively inexpensive rug after special discount), but he wouldn't accept any additional money. We have had such a positive experience with Noor and Sons. Our pre-1900's Persian rug was heavily damaged by our dog several years ago. We had many quotes for getting it fixed and all were completely out of our price range. Noor suggested, if we didn't mind the rug traveling that he could have it fixed in Turkey, and for half the price. So off it went and 6 months later.... it looks amazing! Even better than when I first purchased it! The rug was actually repaired in Pakistan and it is astounding what an incredible job they did. The colors and craftsmanship are of such a high quality, we just can't believe how beautifully they matched the colors and materials. An amazingly wonderful rug rescue! Expensive, and worth every cent. I lost custody of my Chinese silk rug; when it came back to me 25 years later, it had been contaminated with dog feces and urine, and then stored uncleaned for several years in a storage shed. Ugh! The staff examined the rug carefully, then explained that they might not be able to get all the stains out, but could remove the odor. I chose the more expensive cleaning process. The first time they cleaned it, they called and said they hadn't been able to remove all the staining and wanted to try again. I OK'd the second cleaning. A couple of weeks later, I have my rug back. The dragons look as if they've had some adventures, but the color is good, the design is clear and as lovely as ever, and there's no odor at all. I really thought I'd have to throw the rug away. I'm very, very pleased and highly recommend Noor and Sons for cleaning. read more

I am so happy I finally walked into this place. I was greeted politely after walking in and was offered help to see the rugs without being pressured. I was thinking of replacing a synthetic persian style rug in my living room that I bought online and have regretted ever since. I've wanted to find a Kilim rug for a long time and assumed I wouldn't be able to afford one from one a shop like this. The 50% off sale got me through the door to look at the Kilim rugs and I was thrilled to take home a beautiful 7'x10' Kilim style rug for around $450, which I knew from my previous looking around online to be an excellent price. I have bought two beautiful handmade rugs from Noor in the last couple of years, and I am really happy with my purchases. For my second rug, I needed a large rug of a very specific size and color scheme. I used their online gallery and found a rug that I thought might work. Here's 5 reasons why I will stick with Noor: 1) Beautiful products at affordable prices. 2) Excellent customer service--Noor remembered my house and all of the houses on my block and recommends and advises, accordingly. He drops a few rugs off so you can see what works at different times of the day, then picks up all but your decision. 3) He knows what he's doing - Noor has been dying rug fibers since he was 5 years old. He sources his rugs from families in his village and makes sure he knows exactly where his rugs come from and what they are made of. I appreciate not participating in exploitation. 4) Family. The "& Sons" part is important. Noor takes time to get to know your family and introduces you to his. 5) Community. From the store's one-year birthday party, Noor has connected neighbors and friends across north Berkeley. He generously donated to my local nonprofit and he seems to know everyone. He makes our neighborhood a better place. I've purchased 8 rugs from Noor over the last decade and plan to purchase more as the needs of my home change. Noor's took a carpet in for cleaning (Tibetan, sculpted, pale, fairly thick pile, 9x12), and rather than returning on the expected date, expressed dissatisfaction with the result , and with my assent continued to pass the object through several hands till it eventually arrived with subtle discolorations vanished, in excellent, even, dry condition. No question they made a loss on the task, but were determined to satisfy. In addition, on delivery (that they accomplish conveniently in the evening), they laid the carpet under a heavy grand piano, though i had assured them i was expecting to manage this laborious task myself. Telephone quotes are meaningless! I needed to have an oriental carpet repaired and called several places for quotes. Others quoted approx. $300; Noor & Sons quoted $75 to clean the rug & $100 to repair it. I asked them again to be sure since their quote was so much less than the others. "Everything for way less than $200" they said. When I took the rug in, the actual cost estimate was $75 to clean the rug and $300 to repair. 3 times the original estimate. This seems like a classic bait-and-switch tactic. Needless to say they didn't get my business and won't be getting any business in the future. I read their response & it is compltely untrue. The person who wrote the review is not even the person I spoke with on the phone. Perhaps the telephone quote was a simple mistake, but when they lie about the interaction, just run away. read more
