The shop is massive and the selection is fairly broad with area rugs, runners, prayer rugs and circular pieces. This is an amazing place to buy rugs on any budget! Literally saw 9x12 area rugs for only $200. And of course there are nicer rugs on the higher end. Also, they're having a 50% off sale on most items. I really like that they have most of their rugs on those displays that hold them up so you can see the whole rug, unlike a lot of rug stores where they are stacked and you can only see the corner of the rug. I always drive by this place on my way to Ikea. I'm always intrigued by the size of the warehouse and the big banner saying they're having a sale. When walking in, the place is massive. They have a huge collection and plenty of space to view each rug. It was really empty when I came on a Saturday afternoon, with 4 workers standing around and asking if I needed help. When checking the price tag, I was quickly turned off. These rugs are super pricey. Even if they advertise 50% off, they must increase the price by 100% first because I can find cheaper rugs at IKEA, the flea market, Home Depot or anywhere else. Honestly, the quality of rugs are all the same and if I buy a cheaper one and it rips, I can easily buy another one. I wish this was cheaper because the assortment is nice but even in the Bay Area, the rugs are expensive. read more

I've never done a negative review before but this transaction really got the best of me. I purchased a rug for $842.00 on 7/6/15. My credit card was charged on 7/7/15. I returned the rug on 7/8/15. I called Rug Depot on 7/9/2015 to ask where my credit was since it hadn't appeared on my Credit Card statement. They told me to wait until Tuesday 7/14/2015 to see if it appeared because their bank takes a long time. They wouldn't tell me the name of their bank. That made me a bit suspicious. I called again today (Tuesday) to ask where my credit is. The worker called the accountant who said that it was refunded on 7/8/2015. They said it's up to me to prove that I didn't receive the credit. Now I have to go back to the store with my credit card statement to prove that I didn't receive a credit. Seems backwards to me. Maybe they were hoping I would not notice and they could keep my money. I've never had a credit take this long from any other merchant. read more

This place is really like a rug museum.... Lots and lots of rugs. Prices ranges from $ - $$$$! We were in need of rugs to protect my existing carpet since the frog(dog) loves to leap around the living room playing with his toy(ssss.) And we were looking for CHEAP CHEAP replaceable CHEAP rugs. At first glance, Rug Depot Outlet doesn't seem to have many cheap rugs around for us to choose (we were thinking about in the $50 range big area rug.) But then as we start really exploring the huge @ss store, we saw cheap rugs pretty much everywhere. There were plenty to choose from in the ~$50 range. And we picked up one at $35 (medium size rug), and 2 @ $95 (big big huge area rug). They weren't cheap @ss ugly ikea rugs neither. The rugs make the living room look much better now and the frog can play with his toy at ease without us constantly take his toy away to avoid carpet damage. Oh also! We discovered this business last month when they were having a huge sale over the Martin Luther King holiday weekend. We bought a beautiful rug (supposedly originally priced at $250) for just $59. Because it was such a low price, they emphatically informed us that there would be no refund or exchange for any reason. We had the rug less than one month when it started unravelling in at least two separate places. It was falling apart. We took the rug to the store yesterday, having absolutely no expectations other than the satisfaction of voicing our opinions about the quality of the merchandise. To our surprise, they agreed to give us another rug in exchange for the damaged one. I have upgraded my star rating status from one to three stars because of our experience yesterday. However, I am withholding my final opinion while waiting to see if this new rug lasts more than three weeks! Janie (the store employee who helped us on both occasions) was extremely nice, responsive and professional. We give her five stars for excellent customer service!! read more

I bought my first rug from here in 2002. It was a huge 11x8 and a steal at only $250. Very pretty, hand knotted wool - looked high quality. Lots of complements over the years. Over ten years, my dogs nails did a number of this rug, and it started to fall apart. To me, this was completely expected. Honestly I didn't expect a $250 rug to last 10 years of dog abuse! Did I mention she's a doberman? Nails on a doberman = giant talons. Having had such a good experience the first time around, I went back. I found many in my price range, and purchased a 5x7. This time I aimed for machine made, hoping it'll standup a little better than hand knotted wool to my dog's talons. The selection of this place cannot be beat in the bay area. The store is sort of separated into contemporary, transitional, and traditional areas, and by size. It would take at least 1.5-2 hrs to go through all the options. I hate buying something sight unseen online - for a rug, you want to touch it, look at its backing, etc. They do have a short return policy; in my opinion, at least they have one! I do realize however that if this place is a drive for you, that might be difficult. They should consider extending the policy to at least a week to accommodate those that live further away (ie. to be able to bring it back the NEXT weekend as opposed to the next day). To me, it's worth the drive. Never seen so many options in my life. They largely left us to ourselves - no high pressure sale. Very enjoyable experience. read more

Horrible quality! I purchased a "leather" sofa/loveseat in December as a Christmas gift for my family and just a month later, it is already starting to discolor and flatten out in certain spots. I also purchased a rug that I was told was the best deal in their store, discounted for 50% off because they over-ordered and had too many. Well, that rug sheds and requires vacuuming every single day! Maybe that's the reason why they are slashing the price, which still was over $250. Do not buy from these people. This is the second time that I've purchased an area rug here. They have all price ranges and designs of area rugs you could want ! The sales staff know their product and guided me through different choices of material, the pros and cons. I went during one of their half off sales so I was really pleased with the prices. They even gave me a discount on the non-sale pad when I asked if I could get a lower price. The staff are really nice and aren't high pressure at all. Another Rug Depot unsatisied customer. I purchased a 100% wool rug that ($799 on sale for $319). What I didn't know is that the rug was so deply discounted because it had MOTHS. I got it home and saw them jumping out with a few weeks. I used some preventative products to kill them; like any moths, they lay eggs and I had more of them in about 3 months. After I had the carpet for a year, looked like it had been through bad chemo; with all the carpet hairs and fibers falling out- literally bald spots in the carpet (which unfortunately happened when I was entertaining around Christmas time). I brought the rug and my original reciept back to the store. It was awful; they were unapologitic; and making a bad situation worse, acted like it was my fault, and suggested that I already had moths in my home! Their answer was they were only willing to let me buy another rug at 50% off; REALLY?, when they were already running that sale? Why would I spend any more money there to get a crappy carpet with moths, when I already invested in a rug for a room that is never used; and it should have lasted a lifetime. I am out a carpet, $319, a bunch of time, + the additional I have to spend to get another carpet. Don't shop here; I've had much better luck at Home Goods and seen some great stuff at CostPlus World Market- two other outlets that would be willing to stand by the products they sell. This place has been in Emeryville for at least a decade, and I have seen every kind of sign on it: going out of business, grand opening, final liquidation, etc. You probably can get a good deal here if you hit the right day when they move they swap a $200 tag to a formerly $2,000 carpet. read more

Pretty nice items, however, I bought a very large persian silk rug for $1500 and exactly one year later, the edging started to fray and detach. I called and told them I had the receipts and could they at least mend it for me and was told that there is no warranty and they couldn't help me except to refer me to a rug mending vendor. We have all hardwood flooring so we need rugs! They have lots of sales, 30%, 50% and 70% off. We found a great 5x8 rug for the living room in shades of maroon, olive, sage, tan and beige. My first visit to this store was about 10 years ago. i bought a rug that I still have and the quality is great. I recently went online and purchased a kitchen area rug for 100 plus dollars. I didn't know that rug depot carried these type of rugs. Well when I stopped in to just browse not only did they have the same rug but it was on sale for 15 bucks! it looks great, I purchased it and I will return the online rug when it arrives. Oh, and I want to mention I spent 15 bucks and got the same customer service when I spent a thousand dollars 10 years ago! Watch out these guys are a shady sneaky lot. Besides horrible customer service (the manager is insulting, ungracious and obtuse), their tactics are something akin to Slaughter ball when it comes to negotiating and more importantly they simply lie about Everything. Most of their rugs are from China, India and Pakistan but a number of these were marketed as Persian or Turkish and as hand made when they were obviously machine made. He let us browse around for a bit and then caught up with us to see what style we were interested in. He wasn't a pushy sales person and was very knowledgeable on the rugs and answered all of our questions. We ended up going with an option that he presented to us first and it is now in our home and looks beautiful! I just bought a rug from the Rug Depot last week and I'm very pleased. I initially went into the store a couple weeks ago looking at rugs and met with Eduardo. He was very helpful and not too pushy. I ended up not buying one that day because their return policy is only 2 days and I had to go out of town the next day. It seems like their stuff is always "on sale" though sometimes more than others. I was told the price would probably go up if I didn't buy that day. A few weeks later, sure enough the price of the rug I liked had gone up by about $300 but they said the machine knotted Persians that I was interested in are always 30% off (though not when they're 'on sale' but whatever). After a bit of negotiating, I got the price down to about what it was the first visit. It's kinda funky that their prices are changing all the time but you'll get a great deal no matter what. Got my rug home and it looks beautiful. Very happy with my purchase. If you need a rug, you should check out Rug Depot.
