In response to Clara's note on 6/22: Before Clara can use COVID-19 an excuse to attack my character and call me me a "KAREN", I'm uploading our communication in the images if anyone wants to spend time reading it or see actual proof of our documented communication. Just to get the facts straight: 1. I had to call my credit card company and open the charges on 3/4 services after speaking to Clara on the phone (see email trail). Clara refused to offer a refund on any of the mistakes. All my tips and initial services were NOT refunded- so let's not proclaim the salon REFUNDED me anything. Calling my own credit card company was the last resort. To Clara's words exactly, Kat books a chair with the salon and Clara has no control on whether Kat will refund the services, even if it's for poorly done services The only concession Clara offered to me was "some products" when I specifically said my hair had to be fixed. And if you look at the photos - does that look like good work objectively? No. So let's not confused facts here. Taking advantage of a pandemic shutdown to twist it into an emotional narrative to take the problem away is not professional (like the rest of the owner's staff). Addressing the issue is. 2. I'm currently a client at another salon with no issues. In fact, I even wrote a 5 star review for a hair salon back on 3/6/2020. i don't see any mention of that. 3. Before you ofuscate the facts, again, other than Noorwyck, there was only ONE salon I wrote negatively about which was Soon Salon, BACK IN 2018. I clearly stated that at Soon that all they're good stylists left and I followed their stylist Rebecca outside of Soon who had been cutting my hair for years. So before you start critiquing my pass, maybe you should consider why I would write one in the first place. Clearly from the email, I had reached out to you to address it to which you simply did not want to New prospective clients can make their own judgments. For anyone wondering, if a salon consistently has 5 star service, you'd want to question it. What a great experience! I hadn't done anything to my hair in years and the last time I cut it was 2019! I did a bunch of research and landed on this gem. I first went to see Cat when I moved to NJ after a recommendation from a friend and I have never looked back. I went in with the most hideous damaged colouring from a previous hair dresser. I needed some serious colour correction from damaging blonde... I had orange, greens, yellow stripes. I left feeling AMAZING and the colour lasts so long. I don't get to do my hair often so Cat made it so it would grow out without looking ratty and I refuse to see anyone else!! Now COVID is over I am nervous to get on 3 trains to get to Brooklyn but I refuse for anyone else to touch my hair now lol. Worth the risk! Never been on Yelp before because as a business owner I know sometimes we all make mistakes. If you are of South American descent be cautious!!! What I experienced yesterday really got me upset. So I first encountered Cat via Instagram because her work looked amazing. DM'd her and sent my 100 dollar deposit to secure my appointment via Venmo. The day of the appointment everything was going great! She was very patient and helpful up until she finished applying the lightener which we all know contains bleach. She said that we would have to wait about 30 minutes. During this time she was busy ordering food from Grubhub or Uber and I suppose eating. That's okay why not kill the 30 minutes doing something productive. After about 50 minutes she comes back. I thought maybe it took this long because I have really thick and black hair. When she came back I thought she was going to remove the foils. She said we would have to wait about another 15 minutes. At that point my mood changed. I think for the most part anyone that has gotten their hair done before knows that leaving bleach/lighter in your hair for over 45 minutes can fry the strands. I give her the benefit of the doubt since she's the expert! Over an hour and 15 minutes go by (I timed it with my GMT watch) and she finally took the foils off. I was so upset because I knew that this wasn't right. Instead of doing her job she was too busy eating I guess. She then applied the toner and gave me a haircut which was great. I go home and take a shower around 10:30 pm after I finished a networking project. That was about 8-9 hours after my appointment was done. I woke up the next morning and realized that my hair was all fried. I wasn't mad initially because it's just hair and we all make mistakes, it happens. What got me pissed off was her reply after I told her that she might have fried my hair via Instagram. All I wanted was a simple form of accountability. Maybe a small I'm sorry or come in and we'll try to fix it. No refund no nothing. Maybe she wasn't used to working with South American hair since most of the customers were Caucasian. She came up with excuses and a petty reply. After spending over $290 for her services (plus the $100 deposit she pocketed) I couldn't get a simple I'm sorry? She works more like a scammer then a professional I suppose. I.E. the prices on their website don't reflect the prices of the hairstylist. I guess they just rent a chair and set their own prices. I would love to give them a second chance because the other stylist did a great job on the other customers! Just not with Cat. She is highly unprofessional and rude. read more

I followed Kat to Noordwyck after she left Hair Metal and I have to say it's a major improvement in ambience and amenities (unlike a lot of Williamsburg salons they actually allow you to pay with a credit card and they have online booking and texting appointment reminders). It's a beautiful, well-designed salon and because it's on Berry, you can actually find parking on the rare occasion you have to drive. More importantly though, everybody is friendly. It's a smaller space, only five chairs, so if you're there double-processing for four hours you really get to know everybody. Kat herself is queen of my heart. I've been going to her to get my hair done for over a year now ever since she did an amazing color correction to rescue my badly damaged and somehow minty green hair (don't ask me how you get that when you're asking for dusty blue, it was bad all around), but she outdid herself when I went to see her on Sunday. I was going for a darker denim-y blue with a shadow root and the color turned out great as well as the styling, but most amazingly, three days later, despite sleeping and putting my hair up and going out and about, it still was in perfect shape when I wore it down. I had my hair dyed by Charlie at this salon a few months ago--she's very sweet, but I was nervous when she didn't check my hair while the color was processing. I also saw her not check another girl she was working on, telling the person helping her "it was fine." Immediately when she started blow drying, I noticed really significant amounts of my hair falling out. I now have huge chunks of breakage (one on the top of my head). My hair was completely virgin, and there is no reason it should have reacted this way--I'm just truly devastated and cannot believe that I spent so much to have to now spend a year at least growing out the insane amount of damage. Let me start by saying that Noordwyck is a lovely salon - great atmosphere, friendly staff all around, quality products and very clean! However, I actually followed my stylist/colorist Cat here from another salon because she is WORTH IT! My hair is a little resistant to color at the best of times (very brassy) but Cat has helped me from blues to blacks to blonde to grey over the past 5 years and they always last really well. Prior to finding Cat, I had my scalp burned by another stylist at a different salon and I was very nervous to get back in the chair, but right from the get-go she has always taken the utmost of care and I have always had great, healthy results with no burns or dryness. She always recommends the right products and gives detailed care instructions and she is also just a fun person to spend a couple of hours with. read more

I looked for years to find a stylist who 'got' me and I will never let anyone but Acasia cut my hair (going on....seven years now!). Acasia is so good at the spectrum of hair cutting expertise: I can go in with a very specific request and she executes it perfectly (always suggesting modifications that may suit my hair/face shape better, if needed); I have also gone in with no idea what I want and she helps me figure out in real time; and, perhaps most importantly, she's helped gently steer me clear of some less-than-tenable hair solutions. Update - still love Kat. I am 8 weeks deep into my quarantine cut I got from her before everything closed and I am always impressed at how well her cuts grow out. I always look fresh when I leave the salon, but it is almost as though she can see what your hair will look like 8-12 weeks out too. My hair grows pretty slowly but the cuts maintain their shape for a long time. I am grateful for this as it will be a while before any of us can get freshened up. read more

If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. Cat is by far the best colorist that I've ever had. When I first booked her, I was hesitant about going full double process and she not only respected my choice, but managed to give me amazing purple hued hair without a double process. I ended up becoming a double process client after seeing the ART she did with my friend's hair. I have beyond thick hair and Cat spent 4+ hours coloring my hair and leaving it healthier than when I walked in. Literally everywhere I go now someone tells me how awesome my hair is. Steph Caldwell is the literal best, both as a hairdresser and as a human. She's been cutting my hair for about 4.5 years now, and I haven't even lived in NYC for 3.5 if those years -- she's worth the trip! On my first visit, I said to Steph, "My friend Jen referred me here, but she's way cooler than me -- can we do something totally non-adventurous with my hair?" Monica Meletio has been cutting and coloring my hair for 4 years now, and is hands down the best stylist I've ever had. I have nothing but great feedback for her work - she listens to you, loves looking through those inspiration albums we all collect on Instagram, and is honest with where she can take your hair without damaging it long-term. Monica has taken me to a very light, honey blonde, back to a chocolate brunette and I'm happy with every tone we've experimented with. Each time we lightened my hair, she made sure I was aware that bleach would change my hair texture - something other stylists weren't always so upfront about. We also gradually built up to the lightest color to ensure my hair was as healthy as possible in our transition to bright blonde. Her haircuts are also something I consistently rave about. They look great when you leave the salon, but also grow in nicely for weeks to come. I've had long layers, a textured bob, bangs, and a blunt lob all done by Monica. She really understands what I'm looking for and gets it right every time. I cannot recommend her enough. The atmosphere of Noordwyck is also a huge selling point in coming here. I was Cat's client prior to Noordwyck, so this is going to be a two-parter to be as fair as possible, the first on salon as a facility, the second on Cat as a stylist. Noordwyck is about as unpretentious as a high-end salon can get in Williamsburg, don't let the delightful Scandinavian design elements fool you -- the staff are a delight, super chill, really adapt well to the level of energy you want to expend as a client in terms of interaction (I am not always super chatty and have never felt judged, put out, or ignored just doing my own thing during my longer appointments), and are extremely attentive. They have full beverage service, and will gladly work with you to get you food if you're there for a mega-appointment to get a full-head double-process balayage done. It is Williamsburg, so transportation to and from can be a bit of a hassle if you aren't already in the nabe, but on good authority, parking isn't a nightmare, and the 15 minute walk from the L/G or the B44 is 100% worth it, they will love and cherish your hair. You can also pay with card, which is practically unheard of, and their booking system (Cat accommodates my laziness and puts them in herself after we communicate via message) is actually fairly easy to use and sends you helpful text reminders for appointments. Cat herself is a magician, and worth every penny. She also is really upfront about the feasibility of projects, and if you're willing to trust her, will give you something you'll love in the agreed upon time-frame. My very first appointment was cleaning up after box black, and I still had full vivids after despite steeling myself for highlights depending on how well the black would strip. I have been smokey blue, gem-colored peacock, mermaid, bright red, and now a wonderful raspberry -- my hair is still stupid healthy, which is a given if you're going to pay a professional to do this, but far more remarkably, her vivids have incredible longevity. I do understand that hair follicle and types play heavily into this, but even if I didn't get weeks of bright color from her work, what's worth it is the way they develop as the color changes from natural tones creeping back in and color loss have never once looked anything short of intentional. I regularly have people who don't see me for 2-3 weeks asking if I've been recolored because the fades look that on point*. That's something that absolutely blows my mind. Anyway, go here!
