Paul and Debbie…read morewere very patient and kind as I needed to have 2 rings resized, one had to be cut off my finger! - how embarrassing- Safe to say, my wedding ring and the beautiful anniversary ring Paul Truman crafted, dazzle my everyday life now. This diamond and ruby 40th anniversary band is so gorgeous! It looks like a crown for my finger and I enjoy seeing it 40 times a day. My loving husband stopped into Paul's store in Albany, NY, on his lunch breaks and over a few years, gifted me some pairs of diamond, and diamond and sapphire earrings, vintage and modern. There is something for every budget, and the place is as you might expect, is dazzling. Debbie was most helpful and friendly with a quote and reworking a pair of earrings I had laying in my jewelry box for years. I love wearing them again. Thanks Paul and Debbie, for making me look and feel great!

Megan Olson, one of the in-house jewelers, quickly assessed my need and suggested a custom solution which could be constructed that afternoon. She showed me the materials, explained how she would connect the safety and carefully measured so it would fit securely. The price was very reasonable. The work was completed within the hour. I've been wearing the watch for almost a month since the work was done and the safety is very secure and works perfectly! I was pleasantly surprised they could accommodate an out of town walk-in customer and accept a rush job so late in the day. The watch safety provided peace of mind during the rest of my travels. My only regret is that Truman Jewelers is not located in my home state! My trusted local jeweler retired and I wish I could find a company like Truman's in my area to replace my past jeweler. I value professionalism, excellent workmanship, good value and being treated with friendly courtesy. Truman Jewelers delivered all of that and more. Even more impressive since they knew I was a visitor and wasn't a potential long term customer!

We have been customers of hers for decades and continue to be so despite our having moved out of the US. There are no finer and more trustworthy persons in the jewelry business than Sondra and her son Anthony. In fact I am writing this review while awaiting a call from Sondra in order to have her tell me that she has THE bracelet I've been looking for to give to my wife. There is no question in my mind that she will select precisely what my wife would had she selected it herself. You couldn't do better anywhere.

I cannot believe I have not reviewed Sondra's yet…read more 11 years ago today I met my wife. 8 years ago today I proposed to her. So now I will right the wrong of failing to review. I went to Sondra's 9 years ago because I always heard them advertising on ESPN Radio. Anthony spent hours with me teaching me all about Diamonds and Rings. He ordered many diamonds and helped me pick just the right one. He explained the reasons behind each metal and why I would want to choose a platinum setting for our Tiffany style engagement ring. This was crucial as the ring went 8 years before it experienced any damage. I was in my early 20s and Sondra's let me make weekly payments for many many months without interest or fees until the ring was paid off and I was ready to propose. We moved out of state and were still planning our wedding. We corresponded by email with Anthony about the wedding bands knowing we would only see them 2 days before the wedding and they had to be perfect as there would be no time to change them out. They were perfect. This weekend we went back to Sondra's to have the aforementioned damage repaired and I haven't seen Anthony in probably 5 years and he remembered me and remembered where I worked 5 years ago. Amazing. The repairs were fantastic and super affordable. I am forever in debt to Anthony and Sondra's for teaching me about jewelery and changing my life. Thank you!

I had a design in mind when I went to Drue, which I still love. She was helpful in the design…read moreprocess and finding the right diamond during the first couple of visits and I liked that they worked on-site. She wasn't the nicest, but I'm willing to put up with some gruffness from an expert. However, there were so many mistakes during the design process I barely received my engagement ring during the year long engagement before the wedding. The ring was beautiful from far away, but super sloppy close up. The spacing and height was off on the side diamonds, but it was a 3 hour trip to go there and she was so rude all the time that I gave up on getting it fixed. The wedding band was not what I expected because the diamonds in it were set in a channel with blank space on either side and looks bad. The rings were cleaned and checked there for 4 years or so. I had to stop wearing rings just after that and I was always worried about the integrity of the engagement ring. The rings were cleaned and stored in the box for the last 12 years (which was also cheap and didn't hold up). I just took the ring out to get resized and wear again. And all those sloppy areas--the ring is actually breaking down. I couldn't believe when I looked under a loupe at it. The gold channels are actually breaking off. This comes from sloppy technique in its creation. This ring should have lasted a lifetime, but it's going to cost me $1,700 to get it fixed after 5 years of wear?! Sloppy, shoddy work by a shop run by an incredibly rude person whose business model seems to be so difficult to work with (after she gets your money), that it is a horrific experience regardless, and you end up with a subpar piece at an expensive price. I also witnessed her being very nice to some people and rude to others, so maybe part of it is about how much money she thinks you have and whether she has gotten your money yet. I got the sense she prefers to sell jewelry she has already created, but when I was there, the engagement settings were all pretty similar and not what I wanted.

Extremely disappointing experience. I came in with a unique and personal request--turning my wisdom…read moreteeth into custom jewelry--and was met with nothing but rudeness and attitude. The woman I spoke to, the OWNER, was dismissive, unprofessional, and made me feel like I was wasting her time just for asking questions. It was clear she had all the ideas, no interest in listening or offering any kind of guidance. She told me she was "insulted" for even suggesting to get a necklace from Walmart to help with my budget. For a business that claims to specialize in custom work, the lack of basic courtesy and respect was shocking. I left feeling embarrassed and disrespected. I would never recommend this place to anyone looking for thoughtful service or creative collaboration. Honestly surprised how this lady is still in business.

DO NOT GO HERE, avoid at all costs!…read more Absolutely horrible experience, ruined my wedding ring and so rude and unprofessional. Do not risk bringing your jewelry here, they will ruin it and take no responsibility, it's clear they don't know what they're doing. Brought my wedding ring in for a loose main prong, received it back weeks later with the prong even looser than when I brought it to them, with two stones completely missing which were perfectly fine before, and a huge black resin burn on the main diamond. Not only did they not fix what they were supposed to, they sent my ring back mangled. I have no idea how or why this would happen and how they wouldn't notice this before returning it to me. They also apparently don't take photos or videos of rings before and after repair for documentation, which is wildly unprofessional and is basically jewelry repair 101. Thankfully I took my own photos as evidence, as we're suing the company for the cost to repair the damage they did. They also don't do the repairs in store, which they weren't transparent about, and send it out to god knows where, so be further warned that it's a massively sketchy and unprofessional operation. On top of having no skills as a jeweler, their customer service is atrocious and they treat customers like garbage once they have your money. When I called to discuss my concerns with the state of my ring, the old woman working was immediately defensive, insulting, rude, and accused me of lying and swore at me. Not sure what I would gain by lying about their botched job, I just wanted the situation rectified. She also admitted they don't do repairs in house and don't take pictures or document what is damaged and what they fixed, insanely unprofessional and a scam of a business. They should be ashamed of how they damage pieces that mean the world to people, and then treat and talk to customers horribly. Save soo much time, frustration and heartbreak and go to a business with actual skill and integrity and who treats their customers as they deserve. Edited to address business comments below: Ma'am, I did not swear at you, and have the recorded call as proof of your unprofessionalism and rudeness. You did offer to 'fix' the damage, but who in their right mind would trust you with their jewelry for a second time to fix the issues you carelessly caused, after you sent back my ring with the original issue not fixed, and more damage added on top of it, that you didn't even notice? Insane. For you to say 'I did not want this done', is wild, I shouldn't have to bring my ring back to repair burns you left while not even fixing my issue. Potential customers, do you really want to put your trust and jewelry in the hands of unknown 'contractors'? Very sketchy. Even if my mom was happy with past, non complex, jobs you did, it doesn't mean this one wasn't a total disaster that you did not take accountability for. Everyone, save the headache and lawyer fees and go to someone sane and professional!

The saleswoman sees my engagement ring and rudely says "That diamond is not real. The those diamonds are not real. And the band isn't even gold." Wow! I don't recall how the ring came up to begin with. I didn't say much because I found her attitude to be very off putting and rude. She went and grabbed some black box that helped her see if it was real or fake. As she is looking it she says "well it's real. And the other diamonds are too". But of course, they were bad quality. This is my engagement ring that I have had for almost 30 years and been appraised 3x. I had brought in a bracelet that needed to be repaired, a monogram ring that I was inquiring about changing the monogram on it. And lastly, the whole it's not real debacle, I had brought my engagement ring in to have the prongs tightened. Next I was being told that I should have my ring completely reset with white gold because that's the trend. I had tried a silver basket for my diamond and didn't care for it in the past. Well that became an issue but they did fix it on the spot. Lastly I came back to pick up this bracelet I needed repaired. I had forgotten the tag they gave me and the man moaned and sighed because that meant having to look at each bag. I will not be back. I do love to support local businesses but I felt the staff overstepped their boundaries and were very rude. Not a plane I want to do business with.

Underwhelming. After…read moreseeing the ads for this jeweler on PBS I had raised expectations (due to the positive connotations of public television.) So, when I needed a new watch band I came here instead of venturing into Albany. It's located in a newer strip mall with an eclectic array of businesses. Easy parking is a plus. When I walked in, however, my expectations immediately lowered. Entering I noticed a random array of things for sale: scarves, honey (?) other things that you wouldn't expect in a jewelry store: and this isn't an informal or granola, or general store sort of vibe. Lots and lots and lots of light, glass and mirrored cases and an emphasis on bling. My immediate vibe was this is a sales place but not somewhere you'd want to use for watch or heirloom jewelry repair. Think the type of jewelry store you'd find in a low-end mall. I was seeking a leather band replacement for a classic man's watch. The salesman was very nice, but indicated my watch was non-standard size, and required a special order. I've had the watch for 40 years and anywhere I've sought a replacement (leather bands wear out every few years) in upstate New York or on the west coast, the band replacement was considered pedestrian and the jeweler had lots of replacements on hand from which to choose (I have two watches with leather bands -- this has never been an issue before.) Next I was looking at a catalog, and the price was 3x what I last paid for a band (in Nor Cal, btw.) Whatever; my thought was okay, the price of convenience and you are supporting a local business. A few days later I got a call that the band had arrived; I went in the next morning after an appointment downtown and pulled up at 9:55 expecting to wait but the open sign was up and the lights on. I entered and a young salesperson, eating breakfast sandwich, looked up with irritation when I entered and was less than thrilled to need to get up to serve me. I advised her I had called, and she took the watch and sullenly walked off to put the band on. When done she mumbled "do you want the old band?" and then rang me up and gave me a cursory thank you. If you care, not smart to be ungracious when you are working for a small local business and dealing with a polite customer who is obviously a local older professional likely to have disposable income. Perhaps she was having a bad morning or just suffering protein deficiency not having been allowed to finish her breakfast sandwich (btw, in a business you shouldn't be chowing down in the sight of customers -- take it to back room.) I was hoping for a classic, tasteful, old fashioned jewelry store with dependable repairs, like the type you used to find across all upstate New York; I'll head into Albany when I need that type of service I guess. Joyelle's is simply a bit of Colonie Center along Delaware Avenue in Delmar.
