On the third call I asked if anyone still made/installed laminate countertops and was given the phone number for The Kitchen Top Shop. We called and drove down to their showroom on 8 Mile Rd that afternoon. Long story short- a family owned business with the second generation taking over. An enormous selection of laminates from the two industry leaders, Formica and Wilsonart. We worked with John for both sales and installation. John was just great to work with! The countertops were part of a series of upgrades we were doing in our home and we wanted them to go well with new flooring and paint. John showed us an undermount sink by Karran, which we didn't even know was possible with laminate. We did a couple of other tweaks to our original project and still thought the pricing was very good. (We recommend spending the extra money for the decorative edging!) It took us a while to choose a laminate pattern, but once we did John got the materials ordered and had everything ready to install just two weeks after we provided the pattern information. The installation went extremely well! John brought along Mitchell as his helper. The two of them had the plumbing disconnected and our old countertops removed in short order. The final trimming and customization of the countertops was done on site to ensure that all the pieces fit perfectly and the faucet and electrical outlets went exactly where we wanted them. The project included the installation of a new garbage disposal, and John cleaned up the plumbing layout under the sink to allow for better access and more room. Mitchell is a wizard with the caulking gun, and cleanup was very thorough. The finished product is nothing short of spectacular. The new countertops have really transformed our kitchen. One of our neighbors came over and was certain we had gotten real stone put in. Everything looks great and is working perfectly. Good pricing, great craftsmanship, and super nice people to work with. It had the original cabinets from the 1970s. The shelves weren't even, and there was barely any counter space to work with. We knew we wanted to replace all the cabinets, get quartz counterop, and upgrade the layout to be more functional. We called another competitor first, and they quoted us that the bare minimum of what we were asking for would be over $45,000, which was more than twice our budget. When we met Bill, he wasn't pushy or salesy. We told him our budget and what we were looking for, and he was able to meet every expectation. It took about 8 weeks for our cabinets to come in/be made. Immediately after that, Joe and the crew came and completed our kitchen renovation within 2 weeks. My partner and I work from home, and the renovation did not disturb our workflow at all. The inventory and choices are not too much, but doesn't matter because their price was reasonable and you can't go wrong with white shaker cabinets. Quality of the cabinets were great, so far, 5 months in and they are holding up just fine with the abuse I'm giving them. I had them price out bathroom cabinets; however, and the price on those seemed too high. Sam even referred us to an installer (general contractor) who did an amazing job with our kitchen remodel. We had Imperial Granite & Hardwood Floors install a wood floor through our entire house that…read morerequired them to seal the wood and quartzite counter top in the kitchen and bathrooms. We found several areas where there were over runs of the sealant. When installing the counter tops they scratched the floor. I called Matt to come out several times as well as sent a certified letter to have him come out and correct these issues. To date he has never responded. I would not recommend Matt and his company as he does not act in good faith when there are problems that need to be corrected.
