Just attended a performance of The Complicated Woman at the theater. An incredible performance by the full cast. Songs were amazing and the cast did a great job with them. An amazing story, well acted, and proved to be thoroughly enjoyable making for a great night at the theater. A must go see show as well as supporting a great heater. read more

Cute small theater. Every seat is a good seat, as far as seeing the stage, but the rows are tight. I recommend trying to score front row seats, or stick to one of the end seats. Get there early to get a parking spot! It's a cute area to walk around on a nice day, or the bar opens well before the show and there are nice velvet couches to hang out on. I don't know how often they have shows here, but I would definitely go back! read more

Beautiful small theater, we saw the production of the Connect Christmas Carol in December of 2019 and loved the show. I look forward to coming here again. I came early and had no issues with parking. Town looked very charming too. Next time I will walk around prior to the show. read more

A small theatre with some big shows This is the other Goodspeed, not the popular one in Haddam but the little one in Chester that no one hears about. I actually like this one much better. It was opened in 1984 and was an abandoned factory. Named after the famous actress Norma Terris, it is my absolutely favorite place to see a show. I've seen dozens of productions here over the years and every one has been great. It's purpose is to nurture emerging artists and get shows ready for the "big time". So that means you get to see some great improvisation and extremely personal performances. To call Goodspeed-at-Chester intimate would be an exaggeration. It only holds 200 people and if you get a front row seat you can see, hear and smell the actors and actresses up close. You can experience every twitch, every look, every subtle movement. You can see them sweat, spit when they talk and curse under their breaths when they make a mistake. The intimacy of the theatre makes you one with the show. I've had the performers hug, kiss and shake my hands after the shows and on occasion even during the shows. In this place you don't just watch the performance but you are part of it. It's that close. No supercilious arrogance here, after it is over the performers frequently mingle with the crowd and go down the street to the Pattaconk for something to eat. A chance to talk and socialize. Not the grandest, not the most elegant and certainly not the biggest. But my favorite place in the whole world to see a show. read more

Went to see A CT Christmas Carol and really loved the cozy feel of the theater.

A great little place,wonderful acoustics,professional and everything you'd expect from a performing arts theatre... except the synopsis and rating of their most recent show " Hi, I'm Ben" Although categorized as a PG-13 for mature theme and language, that's pretty much sugar coating the homosexual content and uncomfortably intimate scenes which we were subject to during the first act.... we promptly left once the intermission commenced... along with several others who were as disturbed as we were. Yes, we understand everyone is entitled to their own sexual orientation ... however not everyone should be expected to accept it as the "norm" . If there would have been a more honest,accurate description of this show, I never would have purchased tickets! If you're going to put it on stage , put it in the synopsis and trailer as well..... read more

I visited for Cyrano in August. The theater is cute! I like the old factory setting. Intimate and cozy, and could definitely use more parking space and bathrooms, but wonderful otherwise. You can hear and see the stage very well, even from the very last row. It also has a comfortable lobby and fun spot to take pictures before/after the performance. The staff were friendly and professional. The technical parts of the production were well done (lights, sound, etc.) and I didn't see any noticeable slip-ups. read more

Small theatre with very big professional Broadway-type shows.Very friendly smiling and helpful young staff. makes coming here an enjoyment.Oh and parking here is easy too.Wife and I saw the play A SIGN OF THE TIMES(summer of 2016) a Great musical with top notch cast...Will surely be back for their offerings next summer. read more
