Just like our car needs maintenance every few thousand miles and our bodies need annual exams, so does the mind. I highly encourage everyone I know to participate in counseling. At work we go to training. Athletes have to practice. But people forget that we have to work at general life too. What is the best way to manage conflict? How do you set up appropriate boundaries with people? How do you identify and then eliminate toxic relationships from your life? For these things, psychologists offer CBT, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. It helps you be the best you that you can become. I've worked with Dr. Martin off and on for years. There are other doctors at this location, but I've only seen Dr. Martin. I've learned how to manage stress, be a better person, and make more healthy decisions. It shocks me that so many people are against attending counseling or are unwilling to talk about it. The only reason I've selected 4 stars instead of 5 is that it's difficult to set up appointments. You have to get on the books several months in advance. If you decide to come here, make sure you get on the schedule in case you have a day where you really need to come in. You can always cancel appointments, but you can't always get in during a high needs time if you don't have one scheduled already. Of course, you can blame Oklahoma for that instead of this business. We just don't have enough mental health services in this state. We need more good providers like Dr. Martin. read more

Kristen Bishop has been my counselor for years. I have seen her on and off and she has helped guide me through many difficult times. She has given me skills to manage my time better, understand my mental health, and navigate through life in general. I highly recommend her as a counselor because of how helpful she has been and how comfortable she makes me feel during my sessions. The staff at NBHG is extremely friendly and helpful, they are understanding and try to work with you when it comes to scheduling and cancelling appointments. I would however recommend scheduling appointments on a regular basis and far out in advanced, because desired time slots can be hard to find sometimes given how many patients they see on a regular basis. read more

This review is not about the entire facility as a whole and all of its providers. This review is about one provider there, Kristen Bishop. If you have a super basic need, I'm sure Kristen would be fine. Unfortunately, if you or your child has a moderate to advanced need, Kristen is not the therapist for you. She does not provide you with a treatment plan or any session notes if asked. She is judgemental and her facial expressions do not hide this. She does not take the time to focus on issues that the parent brings up (...probably because she does not treatment plan and takes little to no notes during session so she doesn't know an accurate level of progress a client is making between sessions). She is a VERY, VERY tip of the iceberg therapist and does not get to the root of the problems. You will find yourself doing most of the work yourself, outside of sessions, on your own without guidance. You will seek direction from her so everyone involved can be on the same page but will regularly hear, "Children process their emotions in their own time, so even if someone comes in and we don't discuss the issue, I assure you they are still processing it in their own way." ...um, they are a child. You are the professional. You are being paid to help but are not giving direction and are using this regurgitated statement to try to justify your lack of action. Essentially, we sought help for emotional release and regulation, coping skills, and self-esteem for our little one brought on by emotional trauma. After several months of her continually not focusing on these issues, we could not in good conscience continue to waste money and get nowhere. Mind you, this was brought to her attention several times, and instead of seeking to understand our concerns, she would get defensive and challenging.
