New Years Eve we took my mom the ER on Tecumseh. They ran some tests and determined she had a blockage in her liver and would need surgery. The ER staff was extremely kind and very supportive. After being admitted to a room, she had the best experience of a bad situation. Every member of the staff, from the patient techs to nurses station, respiratory, nurses & doctors are listed in this review. The care was fine, but the financing office is from hell. It was thousands of dollars until I got insurance ran, was only 100 or so. I payed it and thought I was done... A few months later it was back up to 2000 dollars and no one would tell me why. They will pretend to NOT hear you when you repeatedly ask for an itemized bill and encourage you to get on a payment plan, once you do ask for an AUTOMIZED payment plan so you don't have to worry about it anymore, they will not and end up calling you every month. I would call and have to give them my info every time and ask to confirm that they had marked my plan as auto billing, never happened and they would just lie that it "wasn't on their file notes." Eventually got sent to a debt collector because they are liars and would only call during the middle of the work day. read more

the Norman hospital in Moore, within 3 hrs provided a CT, X-Ray, and an MRI, along with blood tests. Expedient and decent care. however, based on the findings I was admitted to Norman Regional Health plex. That's where the one star comes in. This is an awful hospital. at least for admissions. I was expediently processed, but then huge let down. my arm wasn't really functional at all. they completely ignored and, ever so visible, did not even pay attention to it. Spent two days, pretty much doing nothing except testing basic vitals (bp, heart rate, oxy). kept doing stroke test even though it came back negative. ignored my blatant arm being all but paralyzed. no Cervical spinal CT. Now, by another hospital, diagnosed it as Peripheral Radial Palsy and Contracture of my upper arm and permanent damage follows if not treated. NRH said take Ibuprofen. Now let me get to unprofessionalism and care to patients. patients go ignored frequently. Most people don't want to wait 4 hours being seen. secondly, the staff gossip about other patients and other staff regularly. this creates an uncomfortable environment for both patients especially, and even staff members. awful 100% read more

I am living on a very limited income. I constantly get calls about making payments which I can't set up a certain amount or a certain day. I have been sent a form for financial assistance and emailed that but they have very uneducated people in the office who don't understand that due to utilities and cost of groceries and other daily cost of living I can't promise them a steady payment. I swear they have hired the dumbest people they could find. I guess I will just block their number because I don't need them calling every week as I just made a payment last week. I get paid once a month and my rent is now due. The Drs there I feel are above the rest that I found but their billing office hires the dumbest people. read more

They are extremely unprofessional! I went there recently and I WILL NOT be going back. The nurse and doctor were too busy flirting w/one another to help anyone there. She was putting on her "lip gloss" while I overheard them BOTH talking about me unprofessionally. She said " I can promise u, that girl does NOT wear diapers. He said "she did say she had to pee." They don't know my situation, they don't know what I go through. I leak from both ends and I've had numerous bladder surgeries. I don't have to explain myself but they were SO unprofessional. First of all, I had surgery this morning for a large struvite kidney stone. I have nothing but praise for my nurse Megan who got me ready for surgery and put in my IV. Then I had the honor of meeting my anesthesiologist Danny. He was so professional but so absolutely charming. Everyone who came in contact with my two daughters and me were amazing. I have lived in Norman for 52 years and utilized the health system with satisfaction. Today, I utilized the new campus for the 1st time, with poor results. It started in the parking garage. I parked on the 1st floor, next to the "Valet parking sign. They have 2, about 12 parking spaces apart, I parked outside this, next to the north sign. I was confronted on a woman who did not identify herself. She stated I was parked in the valet section. I pointed out the signs, and that I was beyond them. She then said ALL that side was only for the valets to use, despite the lack of signage. I offered twice to move my car-the garage had many empty spaces, but she kept saying "I can"t make you move-I'll just tell my boss". Unsettling. I finally found the infusion center, but the receptionist never looked up from her phone. Just "sign in" and go wait". 45 minutes later, I was called back. The infusion center staff was polite and professional, but the "support staff" I had encountered had really disturbed me. I doubt I will return to this facility. read more

After I raised concerns about this lack of transparency and possible discrimination, the company terminated my employment and refused to document the separation. Although Florida is an at‑will state, firing someone to uncover HR's mistake appears retaliatory and discriminatory. *** I am ready to discuss the matter thoroughly and can provide documentation of all prior communications. The company terminated my employment before I could clock out and immediately revoked my computer access, including HR enrollment and timesheet systems, despite my repeated requests to record the meeting for documentation. Don't go to this hospital if it was the last hospital available. 3 different times I had to take my father there via ambulance and all 3 times they didn't do anything for him and sent him home and each time after taking him home within a day I had to take him to the VA and he leaned up in the ICU. When I show them the paperwork from Norman they truly can't believe it and when we ask how could they miss so much all they can say is maybe they (VA) are better doctors. This last time my dad fell and we told them he broke his arm and maybe his hip, well they said he only had a broken arm and sent him home even though he couldn't even stand or anything. Come to find out he broke his arm, back, pelvis and several ribs plus has phommonia and several blood clots in his lungs. So once again in the ICU at the VA. Doctor Allen Baughman has the worst bedside manner and made me feel like I didn't have a right to request treatment. He literally was rude as soon as he walked in and I told him I didn't want my pain treated with pain meds because it's not helping, and he said well I'm Not going to give you an MRI, which was needed to figure where the pain was coming from. And he literally just said ok rudely and walked out. Will never come here again, I will say the nurses and registration was super nice and I have to wonder if I was a white woman requesting the same treatment it would have went different! read more

WORTH THE READ: THIS PLACE IS ABSOLUTELY AWFUL!!! They never sent me a bill for what I owed them from 2018, that I was unaware of. Fast-forward to 2024, they filed (AND WAS GRANTED) to withdraw $450 a month from my checks, before I even found out I that I had a bill. I am recovering from brain cancer, and have been for a year and a half, and currently going through chemo and I SERIOUSLY COULD NOT AFFORD an extra $450 a month for a bill that gained over $1,500 extra in just late fees. I could have made payments to them like I do with OU cancer center but I never knew about it. I found out after the HR department at my job told me they were garnishing this money. THE WORST PART? I called to Norman Regional and they couldn't find a bill that I owed them, they couldn't even find my name in their collections. This place is unorganized and honestly disgusting. Came in twice because I couldn't walk. They gave me fluids and liquid Tylenol the first time and said I just had flu joint pain. I fell when I tried to walk consistently and they said I just had viral joint pain. We went somewhere else and they diagnosed me with a life threatening leg infection. Norman regional has several good doctors but they lack the office staff needed to provide adequate care! The prescription I take for psoriatic arthritis is $1400/month so I apply for financial assistance. I dropped off my application to Dr. Malik's office in early December (due the 15th). Nothing was ever done with it so now a month later I am in severe pain with no medication! And no call back from the doctors office! Complete incompetence! This was my 7th back surgery, My Dr. was great but out of all the hospitals I have been in this was the the worst. After 3 days my husband asked the staff to change my bed, in which the bed was wet. On the 4th day at 2:00 am I fell out of the bed face first on the hard floor, I had a bloody nose & bloody lips, both knees and elbows were bruised, I really hurt my arm & shoulder. After I fell to the floor I had a accident on myself, the staff did not offer to clean me up all the did was put a new gown on me & put me back to bed. I will say they did call the Dr. NOT ONE TIME during my stay did anyone come in to clean my room. After the fall The Hosp. Administration didn't come up to talk to me. To me it was like they could have cared less. The did ex-ray my head because of the big knot on it. There is NO EXCUSE to not to keep your patients clean while there are in the Hospital and they need to change the beds and clean the rooms, Especially the Bathrooms. I will never go to that hospital again. Read all the reviews they all say the same. I Give High Praise to My Dr. but as far as Norman Reginal Healthplex they don't deserve 1 star. Pros: Beautiful building, rooms, cafe, cafeteria, giftshop and location. Great coffee and soy lattes available. Food is inexpensive, guest tray for family of pt. Cons: Nursing staff are snippy, seem to carry a grudge, our nurse Stacy chewed gum and was uncompassionate and extremely unfriendly. ( prob needs to find a different career); pain meds were not given on schedule and had to be asked for over and over, seemed as though games were played with meds, changes to pt meds without auth. plan of care was not explained. Patient asked nurse for lab results and she refused to tell said doctor had to. Doctors are ' hospitalists' and dont have specific times for ' rounds' so one has no idea whats happening. Nurses only come in when you call, Detailed medicine and medical history was given in triage and specific critical allergies were explained yet nurse nearly re'administered the very med that was critical for do not administer, in summary this is the 3 rd chance ive taken on NRH and again i am dissapointed: Previous experience was a misdiagnosis in the ER of " GERD" when it was a widowmaker heart attack, thankfully we transferred to OU Med and they caught it immediately, patient coded, Another time they attempted to do cardiac intervention placing stent and got it 'stuck' didnt know what to do while pt was on table: again req transfer to OU Med Ctr. The nursing staff is overworked and doctors as well in the ER. Until they are staffed up go to a minor emergency if they can handle your condition or another ER. When I left the ER room was packed and with the experience I had it was 8 pm. Patients waiting in the lobby probably did not get out of there until well after midnight. Great staff but overworked. Fire some admin. Staff and hire more medical staff! 2 obvious administrators came into the ER waiting room and walked around taking notes. They should have been their at 8pm when it was a madhouse to take notes and walk thru the halls of the treatment area and see how over worked the staff is. It is a new facility but they are not staffed to fully serve our city. Thanks to the staff for great care under duress from being understaffed you may be over staffed in administrators. A simple nose bleed became an emergency. My wife's nose starting bleeding in the early morning before 0330 but was brought under control within 30 minutes by using known medical techniques. Later while in the Casino, blood begin gushing again from her nostrils. Quickly Casino medical staff (medic, EMS, Fire Dept, & Police) rushed to her aid. They all went beyond the call of duty to help. After much blood was shed and procedures were not working to stop bleeding, they wheel chaired her to my van to trasport to Healthplex. We are from out-of-town and upon arrival, hospital staff initially took mininum info from us and led her immediately to one the exam rooms. Staff were very concerned and personal extending treatment, continued to follow up on her condition until positive results were obtained. We are covered by insurance. The doctor issued some Nasal Decongestant Spray, gave her instructions, & told her to see her PCG before releasing her into self-care. We were out before 0930 Being total strangers, never having any dealings with Healthplex, and no mention of financial arrangements, my wife received the best of care during this emergency, To us, Norman residences have a wonderful hospital and a great medical staff at Healthplex to serve you and your infirmities. read more

My stay in the newer Healthplex hospital was a miracle for me. I was brought in by ambulance and really do not remember much about that. I had unknowingly suffered a heart attack and stroke. I was attended to by a team of doctors and dedicated nurses. the nurses were all nice, although I didn't understand I had a buzzer for help. I guess when you're confused, one has to explain stuff over and over. I also could not write or speak well the first several days, but found the staff patient. I continued with home health care once I got home. I am very grateful to the ER, and to everyone who helped me. read more

My wife and I had surgery here in the past month and the treatment, care, and billing was all very good. Upon scheduling the surgery my insurance provider was contacted and I had a complete understanding of my out of pocket expenses. Donna in pre-op and Sarah in post-op gave us both excellent care and had good bedside manners. Dr. Knutson and Dr. Toal were our surgeons and did an outstanding job in both cases. My husband has panic attacks and serious back problems that make his breathing and anxiety act up worse. The doctor gave him muscle relaxers and shot that did absolutely nothing. We went home he didn't get any sleep from constantly waking up trying to catch his breath. So we went back up there he asked for a breathing treatment because he does have a history of asthma they give him another shot and some anxiety meds . I can't go back there because we have our son who is six any other hospital I go to we all stick together except this one. They eventually told him that they ran out of OPTIONS TO HELP HIM then finally gave him some anxiety medication he hasn't been sleep from 7 to almost 6 in the morning. This review is about the OBGYN office on the second floor. I am absolutely mortified at the disregard for human life in this office. I am pregnant and spent the last two days on the phone explaining that I am actively bleeding and did not know what to do, called 5-7 times today explaining how concerned I am and asking if I could come in, only to be transferred, placed on hold, and hung up on. When I finally got through to someone, after 4 voicemails, and speaking to a nurse 2 times, and the front office half a dozen times. They thought I was calling asking if it was okay to get on birth control, when I clearly and thoroughly explained that I am pregnant and bleeding. I finally told the front office staff I would not be transferred and would wait to speak to a nurse whom told me to come in immediately for a blood draw, which I was here within minutes of that call. The laboratory asked why I didnt have another test ordered and suggested I went back upstairs and requested that test to be ordered as well. I sat for 45 minutes, finally got up and asked how long does it take to get an order, and then they said that the draw wasn't necessary you can go. Your caregivers, doctors, and nurses are great. Your locations are convenient. However, your billing system is the most convoluted and confusing thing I have ever encountered. I even tried to go in person to the billing offices and everyone is confused (rep on phone told me to go to Tecumseh, they sent me to Porter, and they tried sending me back to Tecumseh). Basically nobody knew how to help me and kept brushing me off to the next person. I felt awful for the employees who don't have the proper tools to help, and end up dealing with angry people like me. One area of billing cannot access another area of billing. I can't even properly consolidate all the bills. Everything is a separate account number. Why can't one patient have one account number? A billing rep tells me an account is late. I look online with the exact same account numbers I told the rep and it says it's paid in full. I've kept every piece of mail, every bill, and wrote down every IVR number, every payment I made, time and date. All my friends told me to avoid NRHS at all costs. I wish I had listened. If the illness doesn't kill you, the confusing billing practices will. Several friends have bills sent to collections for under $10 that they never received bills for. It's almost as if this is common practice for the hospital. read more

Norman Regional, where do I begin. The one star goes to my attending hospitalist doctor on the 3rd floor and for the ER doctor I got. I will leave 5 stars on their pages for their practices. Great young, intelligent minds. I have a rare infectious insect vector-borne disease. Very few doctors understand it. As a professional myself, I am the best to guide and counsel doctors who end up with my chart on the occasion I have to be hospitalized so we can save time and money. Grateful that this young doctor was open to hearing and processing what I taught him. That being said, let's address the HOSPITAL. Zero stars. ZERO STARS Worst I've been to. My bathroom in my room was covered in short n' curlies. Various sizes and colors of pubic hairs around toilet and in the shower. Mold? Around the toilet. When was this bathroom ever cleaned? I called immediately for attention to this matter. Maid walks in and does a neck roll at me and mumbles under her breath that she already cleaned my room. Stares me down with evil eyes. Wow. I'm sick and dying there in the bed and she's going to come in like that? So before she left, I dragged myself out of the bed and showed her the areas in question. I stood over her until it was all clean. Next, nursing assistants. Oh girls, seriously? Where is the work ethic? You are on a floor of very sick people. Keep your voices down at night. Respectfully approach and touch your patients. One of your girls I got during my week stay was just awful. Loud, obnoxious. I was having mast cell disease activation at 2 am. Assistant comes in flips on the light in the middle of the night and yells, "HEY WHATS UP CHICKADEE!!!!" This happened three nights in a row. Ridiculous. Laughing, playing, yelling on the floor all night like a party at OU. Next, RN nurse. When I tell you that my iv is blowing out my vein and I'm clotting, it's because I have knowledge in this area. Just because you don't have the background education yet to recognize it, does not make it so. LISTEN TO YOUR PATIENTS. The #1 rule: DO NO HARM. So Zero stars to two of the third floor nurses and two of the third floor night time assistants at Norman Regional. Work Ethic. Do no harm. Finally, "Nutrition Services" is an oxymoron. I have intense food sensitivities. Your food options will kill people with sodium, yeast extract, msg, artificial colors, protein isolates, etc... I had to have people bring in all my food to me so I could heal and not get sicker from your standard processed food options on that menu. Research other hospitals who are providing clean food which heals and supports the body, not kills it. Disgusted by my stay. read more

My husband has been at this hospital since July 21st. He is have an leg amputation done. He was schedule for surgery on July 28th but they had to reschedule the surgery because some one did not take him off of his blood thinners in time, so we understood that things happen we are all human. So the surgery was reschedule to at 9am I get a phone call at 615 this morning from my husband said hey they are fixing to take me down for surgery thankfully I only live about 5 mins away. So they are getting him all prepped surgeon comes in and goes everything then the anesthesiologist tell us we can't do surgery today because the cardo doctor has ran the test that needed to ran. We are both clearing upset I stated I am going to lose my job after this because I have be missing work since my husband has been in the hospital so the anesthesiologist looks at me and said well you don't have to be here for the surgery!!! WTH that is my husband and it is a big surgery for us. So I had to get out of there went up to the room and Cardo doctor came in and was also extremely rude and to for the second time as he doesn't understand our frustration at this point he is putting on someone other than his self. Proceed to tell me that I am be hostile and that I can take my husband somewhere else. So the nurse gave me a number to the patient liaision I have called her all day today no answer I have ask the nurses to please send the case manager to our room no case manager came by I have up there since 7 this morning and no one has tried to help with this. I went here because I was having a severe allergic reaction and having trouble breathing and severe itching. When I went to the emergency room I showed them my insurance card. They accepted this and said my insurance would be billed for this visit. One month later, I received a bill so I called to remind them that I was covered and asked why my insurance wasn't billed first. They informed me that they actually do not accept Medicaid patients and whoever took my card at the time provided me with the wrong information. I find this hard to believe as I'm sure I'm not the only person who has come in and insured by Medicaid. They tell me I will now have to pay this bill. I tell them I'm poor that's why I have Medicaid and that's why I asked before I was admitted if I would be covered. If I wasn't covered then why not require I pay at the time of service or just tell me I'm not covered so I can go somewhere else? The answer I was given is that they don't turn people away at emergency. I would have much rather gone somewhere else than be dealing with billing issues now. They tell me to fill out a financial aid application and send this by postal mail. I send in what was required for them to assess my financial situation. I was homeless at the time and the billing department said as long as I sent in the application for financial aid then this bill would be covered by the hospital. After sending this in I do not hear anything back from them about collecting money on this bill so I assume that they have covered these costs because that's what I was told they'd do. Well, I suppose I should have learned the first time that you can't take anything they tell you at face value because one year later they have turned me over to collections and now I have to sort all this out. I'm giving them 2 stars because the care was good. I was seen quickly and the doctor was great. But this whole billing thing is a disorganized fiasco. Who doesn't accept Medicaid. Medicaid is a federal program - am I right? You'd think that with a Medicaid insured patient that if you were a hospital who wanted to be paid that you'd accept Medicaid or at least be up front about what insurance you take and what you won't. This financial assistance is a joke if it doesn't cover those living below the national poverty level. I would not recommend anyone to this hospital. I understand mistakes happen but their billing department and reception saying one thing then saying another is unethical. The accounting department at Norman Regional Healthplex is less than professional. I had a heart procedure and my wife and I were making payments and assumed since we were not getting any more statements for final balance that we had finished paying. That is until it was turned over to a collections agency! We have money in the bank for payment but instead of either phoning us or sending a final statement of the procedure done they turned it over to collections. When we phoned the accounting department at the Norman Regional Healthplex they continued to parrot the same uniform statements and could care less about trying to assist us in the correct manner. Where has social skills gone? The physicians who use this hospital need to know how the accounting department handles the invoices. I have had two or three procedures from the same physician and NEVER had this happen in the billing! Need to employee more competent individuals! read more
