TLDR: Do yourself (and your furry friend(s)) a favor and check out Burbank Dog Park! You'll leave…read morewith incredibly happy and tired dogs every time! In moving to Baton Rouge from out of state, I was excited when I learned that the Burbank Dog Park was a short drive from my new house. I have two German Shepherd mixed breeds who love running and playing, and while our backyard is a decent size, having the potential to run in a 6-acre dog park sounded amazing! This park does not disappoint! The park is surprisingly clean with a 1/4 mile walking path. Everyone that I have encountered during our visits thus far has been friendly and I have not seen any misbehavior (from dogs or people)! In addition to the main space, there is a dedicated small dog section (separate entrance) and within the main space, there is a section with agility course activities (which I would love my dogs to try, but they are definitely not interested!). There is also a separate entrance to a section with a pond, but we have not yet explored this. The main space includes a dog water station and a gazebo with two picnic tables to enjoy some shade. Outside of the park is a dog wash station. There is plenty of parking! The only minor complaint is that there is not much shade other than the gazebo. There are trees, but none too close to the walking path, making it very hot; early morning or before close are ideal times to go (at least in the summer...which is probably obvious to anyone reading this). Note that the the Burbank Dog Park is closed on Mondays for maintenance.

It has an overhang for shade and very peaceful. Met some great people with friendly dogs. There are 3 sections, little dogs, big dogs and one with a pond. It's the best dog park I have ever been to. They also have baby pools for dogs! My dog was there and had the time of her life today!!

I emailed to ask when it would be fixed and did not receive an answer. They also haven't put tennis balls in the park since COVID, and when I asked about that, they used COVID as their excuse in 2024. So I've been bringing my tennis balls. And last, they replaced the shower nozzles and hoses with very short hoses and nozzles that spray water EVERYWHERE. Not sure who thought of these "upgrades," but they suck. Just really silly inconveniences when you're already paying per year to use the park.

After a rain shower, he loves to walk in the the shallow puddles under the majestic old oaks near the main entrance. I love the walking path lined with crate myrtles that circles the park, as it is trips to the City Bark that help me get my steps in. We appreciate that it is open late and well lit, as it allows us to go to park later in the evening when temperatures are lower. Registering was easy and I happily will pay the low yearly fee for this great amenity. My only complaint would be that the entrance needs more regular maintenance, as you can imagine dogs can get it dirty quickly and odors linger. I would like to see some volunteer opportunities on the weekends to help make it the best stop for dogs and their human companions!

Well well. How in all the madness of my life did I not know about this local park?!…read moreOn a chilly morning, me and the lad packed up our two doggos and sped off to the Gretna Dog Park with our neighbor. Large spacious park with 2 areas for larger or small dogs. Another fam was leaving and my little guy has always played with the big dogs so in we all went. Really impressive park with obstacles and plenty of room to run. On this particular day it was still sloshy from a recent rain and our retriever friend, Jackson was all up in that water. All the dogs got wet and dirty. They loved it! Worth a trip to the West Bank! The best part.....they were tired and exhausted lots of energy while having fun. Bring a towel, just in case it's wet.

There were lots of dog visitors when we were there and we didn't have any problems. The area is nice and big to accommodate lots of pups. There are interactive dog stations all around the park. I saw people using them to train their dogs. Ours just liked jumping on stuff and sniffing. My HUGE complaint about this park is that someone showed up in the middle of the day to mow and made everyone leave. You've got to be kidding me? I can't believe they showed up at prime dog park time and kicked everyone out. Seriously bad planning. If this was my regular park I would have made some noise to whoever runs it.

There's also space to launch a boat or kayak if you want to do that. BEWARE OF ALLIGATORS!!!!!!! The signs aren't a joke! Especially if you are there with a pet, have great caution when near the water. I say this because many people take their dogs down to the pavilion by the boat launch because that's where the hose is located. Keep your dog on a SHORT leash and beware of your surroundings. Gators like to hang there right around the corner.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriffs Department was here, as was the city police, members of the morgue (the live ones that work there, not the dead ones you silly goose), the SPCA was there with some animals, and so much more. Ideas for home protection were popular booths here as well. There were also booths set up giving hot dogs and soda at no cost to the public. There was a live band on stage. Now lets get to the park itself. There is an area specifically for dog that is small but enclosed. There are picnic tables and a couple of boat launches. You can access the walking trail that extends along the south side of the waterfront. This is between the levy and the water of the lake, so I am sure they block it off during storms. Great place to go to for some family bonding time.
