When the cable broke I called a reputable and well-known garage door company, who sent a technician out to assess the situation. It was then that the full jury-rigged nature of previous repairs was revealed. The technician did an honest assessment and gave me an estimate of $876 to put the thing back in working order. He counseled me that it would take three to four weeks to get the parts and recommended upgrades that would push the cost into the two thousand dollar range. I thanked him, paid the $60 service charge, and told him I would think about it. Now, I want to be clear here. This was not a scam or an upsell, but an honest assessment by a good technician who was very doctrinaire in his approach to the repair of an old system. He did not lack integrity, but only creativity. I know this because it was after his visit that I contacted JS garage door for a second opinion. The receptionist at JS took down the information and asked for photos so she could pass them on to the technicians. Within an hour Jeremiah had called me back and said he could come by that same afternoon. Long story short: He came, assessed the problem and the door, and with the equipment and parts he had in his truck, repaired and refurbished it and got it working that afternoon. He was able to do this because he approached it as an act of artistry, not simply as a technical repair. For this he charged me $200. I am writing this because I want to praise a good company that is both creative and conscientious. And honest, as well. Please consider JS if you need garage door work.
