But once we had paid a retainer and had them working on a quote for the rebuild of a historical deck, they were unresponsive and communication was non existent. We hand-held them through the application process but they didn't listen to our explanation. The "contract" they sent us to sign was incomplete, missing entire sections and had errors, which we had to point out. Still they didn't revise it. They refused to let us review materials prior to submission to the Historical Commission, which was required given the historic designation of the house. Kept insisting they knew better and had experience working with historical commissions. Their quote for custom rebuild of the railings and columns was so overpriced, that even the Historical Commission staff was astounded. Finally they pulled out of the contract because their Commission application was about to be scrutinized, and they had a lot of work ahead. They did return a nominal amount of the retainer to us. The company had come highly recommended, yet our experience with them was sub par.

The work was done in a timely fashion-with frequent requests for payment-Cash only- at every step. The house looks great-on the outside! I was informed after the work was already underway that they wouldn't be doing the inside of windows. They also used windows not Energy Star rated for MA. So the interior of my house is a mess with unfinished windows- multiple plaster walls crumbling! They also replaced only two of the three outside lamps that were agreed upon-placed the storm doors back incorrectly and put molding over a couple of doors that was never requested. There was never a final walk through- and there were three screens placed which already had holes in them. My ignorance is the reason for most of these issues-I assumed the windows would have correct energy rating-I never knew that windows could be unfinished when you pay for replacement windows. I also got the impression that the final walk through by the Contractor would also finalize some of the "slush fund" money that was made available for any unexpected expenses. I did mention the defective screens and the missing lamp to site supervisor 'Luis". The owner of company never came out to check on work-Oh-just one more thing-the dumpster that I had to pay for? his guys brought trash from other work sites to fill it up! This all occurred summer 2024-I have been too occupied with medical issues to take any action on this -but really?! I just want others to be more cautious!

Fast and Fine Carpentry was hired to repair and rebuild a rooftop deck at a Beacon Hill…read morecondominium. While the quality of the work was quite good and the project was completed on time, the owner of this firm is very difficult to work with: 1) He gave a very vague quote, giving the impression that the total cost was much lower than expected ($5,100 versus $3,600.); and 2) upon realizing this mistake, the owner never apologized but instead threatened to sue us and file a mechanic's lien when we tried to compromise to reach a resolution. The owner lacks business acumen with little no understanding of business protocol (that in quoting a job, he needs to separate labor from material costs and that this should be done on one estimate, not broken into two separate invoices, or start a job before all the signatories have signed an contract.), and, worse, resorted to racist and inflammatory comments during our later interactions to resolve the matter. This firm may appear to provide better pricing than competitors, but the owner is a very immature young man and cannot be trusted to any serious project. Do not take the bait!

Peter Duffy's team took over the work that our previous, nightmare-of-a-contractor had started…read more From the start, Peter and his amazing crew, Oliver and Alan, showed up at our house first thing in the morning, and didn't stop until 5pm or later. They accomplished more in one week than our first crew did in 2 months. Peter was truly invested in the project, and it was clear how much he cares for his clients and his crew. Every step in the process was a collaboration: Peter scheduled appointments between us and the electrician, HVAC crew, and plumbers so we could all walk through the house together and talk through what we wanted and what would work. Peter also made suggestions throughout the process that improved the plan and house in ways that never would have occurred to us. At one point, Peter's crew had the idea to move an original built-in cabinet to another wall in order to open up the dining room to the kitchen, and it changed the entire flow of the house in the best way possible. Visitors always scratch their heads in disbelief when we tell them that the built-in was moved - they insist it looks like it has always lived in that corner of the room! Peter uses the best materials for his builds, and the finishing work is outstanding. Oliver is an incredible carpenter, so our new stairs, kitchen casework, trim around the walls and doors, and tile work in each bathroom is absolutely gorgeous. The existing walls in the house were in bad shape after we removed the wallpaper, so Peter's meticulous painting team patched and repaired all of the walls before painting. The walls are now absolutely smooth and look brand new. The few times there were issues, Peter and his crew addressed them immediately - things were corrected by the following day. Our entire project was massive, and Peter coordinated the work of all of the subcontractors seamlessly so there was never a day that no one showed up to work. Peter's prices throughout the project were also reasonable, especially for the quality of work and materials that they included. Our finished home is more beautiful than we could have ever imagined - we are beyond happy and grateful to Peter and his crew.
